  • Procedures of Real ID

    Procedures of Real ID

If you have not yet heard from your local news channel or read about it somewhere on social media, you now officially have one year to obtain a Real ID from your home state. If this is your first time hearing of Real ID and you have no idea what we’re talking about, don’t panic.

To put it as plainly as possible,  a Real ID is your driver’s license or identification card with one little tweak: a star in the top right. It’s the federal government’s way of verifying that you are you

Before we dive into what Real ID is and how it works, let’s brush up on our history, shall we?

The Real ID act dates back to 2005 and was implemented by President George Bush following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The idea was to alleviate fraud, protect people’s real identity, and increase national security. By February 2017, 25 states and D.C. adhered to the Real ID procedure, and the government granted the extensions of the remaining states to change their I.D. practices.

     Alaska DMV

By October 2020, all states must be Real ID compliant. When applying; you must provide your full legal name, SSN, birth certificate, and documents proving your residency ( bills, bank statements, etc.). So yes, it will be a little more complicated than just renewing your driver’s license. For this particular method, more documents are needed to verify your identity.

The Real ID allows you to board commercial flights and enter federal buildings. According to the Department of Homeland Security website, if an air traveler does not possess a Real ID by October 2020, they will need another form of identification, like a passport.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Is it mandatory? Personally, if I’m going to waste hours of my day on something, it sure as heck won’t be the DMV. To answer your question, no, it is not mandatory. The picture below will give you a better idea on whether you should apply for a Real ID or not.

Of course, any ID you have on hand will do, but if you’re a constant traveler, then Real ID is recommended. According to the DMV, if you choose to stick with your current identification, the phrase “Federal Limits Apply” will be written on your card. That way, if you are traveling within the U.S., that card will hold no use and cannot be considered a legitimate I.D. by the federal government. In other words, the TSA will be trained to not accept any other form of ID, and complications will arise, which will lead to delayed flights and holding.

    California DMV

If you’re wondering what the difference is between your current I.D. and Real ID, it’s the little star that will be printed out on your card. According to Real ID expert Alexis Campbell, all the star does is “verify that this person is who they say there are.” Keep in mind that your state government is responsible for your old forms of I.D. Think of the star as a federally approved stamp.

What else makes this procedure different? Public informant Charlie Moore states that “the real I.D. compliant credentials don’t ever require fingerprinting,” while other I.D.s do. When the Real ID Act goes into effect in October 2020, the need for fingerprints will be gone completely.

If you have any questions that have not been answered in this article, please visit your local DMV website to find out what your state requires for this procedure.

  • Best Ways to Celebrate a Birthday as You Get Older

Best Ways to Celebrate a Birthday as You Get Older

Remember when you were a kid, and birthdays were something you always looked forward to? Why not, considering the cake, presents and all your friends from school would show up. Plus, there was always a pinata full of Snickers and Twix bars.

I remember being excited about birthdays until I became a teenager because after that, I just wanted to go out with friends and get away from my parents as much as possible. Yes, I regret it, and I know I’m not the only one. My early twenties consisted of college parties and birthdays were spent in bars getting wasted with friends and crashing at someone’s house.

    via GIPHY

Oh, how times have changed. It’s incredible what a serious relationship and a baby can do to a person’s life because after the age of 23, I started to take shit seriously. It’s true; you’re not getting any younger, so if there’s a perfect time to re-examine your health status, your goals, and your future, it is now.

Hey, that doesn’t mean we can forget about our birthdays entirely. We can still have a grand time with friends and family, but with less drinking… because hangovers nowadays feel like I’ve been running into a brick wall repeatedly and on purpose.

Here are some ideas to help you celebrate your special day.

Treat Yourself to a Spa Weekend/Hunting Trip

I have a little girl who is not only super hyper but loathes naps with every fiber of her being. Those rare moments she does decide to go down for an hour, you better believe I’m going down with her.

So if you’re like me and a one hour nap excites you, then why not extend a nap to a whole frikin’ weekend? I’m talking manis, pedis, mud baths, full body massage, peel off masks, and a little pool filled with chamomile milk ready for my tired soul and me to dip in.

    via GIPHY

While you can invite a few friends to join you, contemplate going alone on your birthday so you can reap the full benefits of the relaxation process. You can see your friends any other weekend of the year. I once sought to take my husband for his birthday, but he’s not the relaxing type, so instead, he headed to a shooting range to celebrate.

Which is great! Some men have their own way of celebrating, and shooting ranges, cigar bars, and hunting trips are just a few of them.

Have Dessert for Every Meal of the Day

What do you want breakfast? Not two sunny side up eggs on avocado toast, that’s for damn sure. It’s party time; I’ll have my cake and eat it too! See what I did there?

For lunch, I’m having two slices of Reese’s cheesecake, and for dinner, I will be having a lava cake the size of my face because it’s my birthday and I can. I get this one day a year!

    via GIPHY

The other 364 days, I’m striving to eat healthily and workout as much as possible because hello, I am aging horribly. Not going to lie, I’m not where I want to be body-wise. So if you see me with a mouth full of carrot cake with icing smeared at the corner of my lips,  chin, and the tip of my nose, please leave me alone. Just because we’re getting older does not mean we shouldn’t give our inner two-years-old a chance to come out every now and then.

Go on a Shopping Spree (No Holding Back)

In the words of Ariana Grande, “I want it, I got it.” And indeed you should get it. Today, at least.

Now, I’m not saying you should go out there and spend two grand on a new wardrobe. No holding back means if you’ve had your eye on something and you’ve wanted it for a while, this is the day to treat yo self. Whether it’s a new dress, running shoes, the latest headphones, or a pricey bag you can’t stop thinking about! Treat yo self

    via GIPHY

Keep in mind how hard you’ve been working this past year, you deserve to brighten up your own day! We don’t receive presents like we used to, so get out that Amex card and get to receiving.

    Fancy Dinner with Your BFF

These days, it seems like everyone you used to party with is now either your co-workers or live halfway across the world. People move on when the post-adolescence stage is over, and it’s time to grow up.

Birthday dinners are amazing when it’s just you and someone you’re very close to. It could be your partner, your friends, and even your parents. I used to take my partner to Outback Steakhouse for my birthday dinners, but now, I enjoy it better alone.

    via GIPHY

As time passes, you realize you need time alone and time away from people to recharge, and that includes your loved ones. So whether it’s a fancy dinner at a five-star restaurant or a homemade dinner, make sure you end your birthday with a delicious meal.

    Netflix, Wine, and Take-out

    That’s it. That’s literally it.

Turn on Netflix, pop open a bottle of wine, and order takeout. For some people, this is an average day, but for others such as myself, this is a miracle. It always feels like you’re never done with housework, schoolwork, or regular work that something as simple as this is the perfect way to celebrate.

Hell, if you want, hang up some streamers and put on your party hat. Celebrate how you’re another year closer to your goals, how you’re more experienced, how proud you are of yourself for not losing your shit despite everything that has happened this past year. Celebrate you alone.

    via GIPHY

I’ve always hated those arrows people hang in their homes with the words “Live, Love, Laugh,” and I still do, but what better advice than to genuinely live, love, laugh, and enjoy another year learning and growing.

  • Fun Recipes to Cook with Your Significant Other

Fun Recipes to Cook with Your Significant Other

In the twenty-six years that I have been alive on this planet; I can safely say that food is the number one thing that delivers joy to people like nothing else. It’s a known fact, but really, it does more than that. It sparks a few joyful memories, childhood memories, sad memories, and sometimes even bitter memories.

You get my point. No matter what culture you come from, everyone has a unique way of bonding over food. It’s fun, time-worthy, and if you know what you’re doing in the kitchen, people will ultimately fall head over heels in love with you.

We’re nearing 2020, so trust me when I tell you that the way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach. So what are you waiting for? Get hold of your soulmate and get ready to feel the heat!

New York Strip Steak with Sweet Potato Fries

When we think romantic dinners, our minds tend to stray to candlelit steak dinners. Social media has succeeded in conditioning our mind to think that, at least.

Let’s be honest here; just thinking of a steak dinner for only the two of you is sexy as hell. While some people go to extremes when preparing steak, I can tell you now that a sprinkle of sea salt and freshly cracked pepper will do the trick. Years of watching Gordon Ramsay yell at other chefs for being incompetent; I’ve become somewhat of an expert.

    KitchMe

While you can go for regular potato fries, there’s something about sweet potato fries that complements the taste buds. For sides, try something light like an arugula salad or grilled veggies. Wine, of course, is a must.

Steak dinners are inexpensive, require little seasoning, and are thoroughly delicious. What’s more tender than a romantic dinner you’ve cooked up together? To learn how to cook the perfect steak, click here.

    Spaghetti & Meatballs

How did I jump from steak dinners to something as juvenile as spaghetti? Steak dinners were pre and post marriage, and spaghetti dinners were post-babies. Yup.

But still, have you seen Lady and the Tramp? Spaghetti should be the original steak dinners. Because spaghetti requires numerous steps, it’s perfect to have your partner to help you out. While placing the pasta in hot water is manageable, the sauce is what makes it perfect.

    Taste of Home

Lucky for you, after several attempts of different sauces (and countless, useless hours scrolling through Pinterest), I have the perfect one. You can choose to mold the ground beef into meatballs or leave it as is with the sauce. Because both my kids are under the age of three, I leave it as is. Or because I’m too lazy to shape them.

So whether your home is a kids-free zone or not, cooking up some spaghetti is a great way to spend the afternoon and reminisce about old times.

    Stuffed Chicken with Jasmine Rice

One of my personal favorites! A recipe that was passed down from my grandma to my mother and from my mother to moi.

This is a weekly dish in my home because it is easy, delicious, and my husband always lends a hand. It’s our special dish that we enjoy cooking together. When you google stuffed chicken, the results are endless, the ingredient list is too long, and sometimes too fancy.

    Recipe 4 Living

Well, fear not, because fancy has no place in my home! All you’ll need is a large chicken and a quarter cup of Calrose rice. We season the rice with salt, pepper, and wait for it, two pinches of cinnamon. I preferably add a diced onion and cut up the liver that comes with the chicken and add it to the mix. Proceed to stuff the chicken, sew it up, and place it in a preheated oven.

Sea salt and freshly cracked pepper have always been my go-to for chicken seasoning. We prefer a side of Jasmine rice with our chicken, but a house salad is a great choice as well, considering it’s already stuffed with rice.

    Pizza

    Did someone say pizza party?

Yes, it was me, ready to eat two whole pizzas, if necessary. The one who doubts me will be made a fool. When it comes to making pizza, be distinctive.

    King Arthur Flour

Add gouda or ricotta with your mozzarella, choose anchovies as a topping, learn how to make the stuffed crust! If pizza isn’t your thing (impossible), then consider making calzones.

    They’re literally pizza burritos.

Homemade Tacos with Pico De Gallo

Yes, I saved the easiest and most fun for last. First order of business: head over to your nearest Ralph’s and purchase some taco seasoning.

The joy in making tacos genuinely comes from putting together your taco. I admit, my tacos always end up being a sort of burrito, but I take comfort in knowing I am not alone. Prepping for tacos is excellent because all you’re doing is dicing tomatoes, cutting up lettuce, and slicing jalapenos while shooting up a conversation with your partner.

    Mexican Please

In our home, we make a tahini sour cream dressing that is out of this world, and we add pomegranate (yes, pomegranate) arils to our tacos. Simple, quick, and always leaves you craving more.

For the perfect pico de gallo recipe, click here.

No matter what recipes you come up with, you should know that the quality time you spend with your loved one is all that matters. If the whole point is to be around them, even PB&J sandwiches will do! If this list has taught me one thing, it’s that I should seriously consider starting a food blog. Happy eating!

  • What You’ll Need for the Ultimate Labor Day Weekend

What You’ll Need for the Ultimate Labor Day Weekend

With Labor Day weekend fast approaching, it is time for us to bid summer a bittersweet farewell. While the holiday doesn’t officially mark the end of this scorching summer, it appears like it’s our last chance to fire up the grill, plan one final road trip, and drive our kids to the beach before school starts (finally!).

    via GIPHY

Personally, Labor Day weekend has always been one of my favorite holidays to celebrate because it gives me a chance to reunite with friends and family. With that said, here are some little known facts about the tasty weekend, according to HydroWorx:

    • What are we celebrating? The contributions and achievements of the 155 million men and women who are in the U.S. workforce.
    • Oregon was the first to declare Labor Day an official holiday in 1887.
    • Labor Day is considered the ‘unofficial NFL season kickoff.’ 99.44 percent of the time, the NFL plays its first official season game Thursday after Labor Day.
    • It is always on the first Monday in September.

You really do learn something new everyday. If you’re unsure on how to spend this 3-day weekend, we’ve got you covered.

    Backyard BBQ

The necessities: grill, meats, veggies, family & friends

What better way to say ‘sayonara summer’ than hosting a barbeque? Besides, this may be the last time you use your grill this year, so let’s make it count. Whatever you do, please don’t be dull with your food choices; you go big, or you go home. Outback said it best.

    via GIPHY

So while burgers and hotdogs are the traditional go-to’s, do your guests a favor and slap on some ribs, chicken thighs, eggplants (they’re delicious, don’t judge), and most importantly, corn on the cob. Also, don’t forget the side dishes!

    Watch the Labor Day Parade

No matter where you are in the country, there is no doubt a parade boasting red, white, and blue colors somewhere around you. You can find events on your city’s website. If not, then you can google on where to find the nearest parade and head on over there.

    via GIPHY

This is an excellent activity if you have kids since there’s little to no planning when it comes to the event. The music, the colors, the crowds, and the great food afterward reminds you of the diversity that makes this country great.

    Take a hike

The necessities: hiking equipment, snacks, partner

Wake up and smell the roses. Literally

    via GIPHY

If you wish to get away from the business and loudness that is Labor Day weekend, then what’s more zen than trekking through nature with one or few of your closest friends? You get the chance to embrace the wildlife, take advantage of the beautiful weather, gulp down fresh spring water, and might end up at a waterfall for a swim before camping out underneath the stars.

    Go shopping

The necessities: nearest mall, money (obviously)

Like all our favorite American holidays, this one, too, comes with a great, grand sale. So if you’re an impulsive shopper like so many of us out there, then it’s time to make some savings, girl! You might even find something you’ve had your eye on, but couldn’t afford before! If Labor Day is not about the food, then trust me, it’s about the outrageous sales.

    Visit a Winery

The necessities: your love for fine drinking

Why visit a winery this weekend of all weekends? Because you can

    via GIPHY

There is no wrong time when you can go on a wine tour and drink tasty wine and then purchase three bottles that cost you a month’s paycheck. C’mon, I know I’m not the only one guilty of this…right? You can grab your partner or even your mother and take a 2-hour tour that will educate you on the fermentation process of wine and give you tasty samples!

Spend the weekend at the beach

The necessities: a tent, blankets, swimwear

Malibu Beach, 2016, Labor Day weekend. Best possible weekend of my life

Here’s the thing, if you are at a getaway with your most beloved, then memories you create will not fade. The beach has always been my getaway for absolutely everything, for every mood, and every event.

    via GIPHY

When you’re diving in under every wave that comes at you, it reminds you no problem is ever too big. You will likely find tons of people out on the shore on this particular weekend, so you’ll have lots of people to celebrate with. The water at night and the night sky is just a bonus.

    Road trip

The necessities: a car, GPS, good music, a plan, closest friend

How to plan a road trip: you do it spontaneously. You avoid major cities that will be overcrowded unless that’s your goal. Count this activity as an adventurous one where you will not only have the time of your life, but you will experience the holiday with strange faces, new foods, and great times in a new city.

    via GIPHY

You’ll have the chance to meet new people and cross a few things off your bucket list.

    Happy Labor Day!

  • Tips on How to Keep Your Guests Comfortable at a Wedding

Tips on How to Keep Your Guests Comfortable at a Wedding

It seems like your whole wedding planning experience is focused on the dress, the cake, the reception, the food. It’s your special day so who else should you be focused on more than you? Sometimes, weddings are a once in a lifetime experience for us, so attempting to make it the best possible event is understandable. While only thinking of yourself is your God-given right on this particular day, there are some thoughts you need to leave room for. How are you going to make your close friends and loved ones more comfortable at your party?

You can play both the beautiful bride and gracious host! Here are a few tips on how to make comfort priority at your reception.

    Comfortable Seating

How many times have you been to a wedding and had to sit for hours on an uncomfortable wooden chair until your ass got numb?

Please don’t be shy to admit it, because we’ve all been there. Safe to say, wedding chairs provided by the venue or family are not always the most comfortable.

    via GIPHY

Hey, I get it, you’re looking to save as much coin as possible, and chairs are the last to cross your mind when it comes to comfort! Plus, you expect people to be more on their feet than their butts, so there’s not much to think about. Cushion pads such as these are a great way to add a tiny bit more comfort to your guests behind, and most are affordable so you hopefully won’t be breaking the bank.

    Sandals /flip flops/socks

If you like to throw your hands in the air and wave them like you just don’t care, then keep them up.

I’m just going to go right out and say it; if you go to a wedding and don’t get jiggy with it, then what are you doing there? If you’ve downed a drink or two and still haven’t found your way to the dancefloor, then you need to reassess critical parts of your life.

    via GIPHY

Now, I’ve learned from past mistakes and now only show up to events wearing flats, or any other shoes that feel like Tempurpedic for my feet. You can find flip flops as low as 3 dollars and socks in bulk for an incredible price on amazon! If you’re a woman and you know the pain of dancing in heels, then providing your female (or male) guests with wearable footwear is an excellent idea!

    Toiletries in the bathrooms

Storytime: when I first became a mother, I had to ditch my Michael Kors bag to a diaper bag.

Best. Decision. Ever. I could fit Narnia in that frikin’ diaper bag, but Michael Kors? A cell phone, car keys, wallet, and deodorant stick was the limit

    But I can’t bring a diaper bag to a wedding…or can I? Nope, I can’t.

    via GIPHY

Aside from the bathrooms being clean and posh, placing baskets full of toiletries for both men and women is a lifesaver. It’s a wedding! Your guests are going to be dancing, laughing, and yes, sweating. Deodorant, sample perfumes, pads/tampons, combs, mouthwash, lotion, and body powder are just some idea of what could help ease your guest’s mind!

    Easy access to entrances

I cannot stress this enough! Please keep in mind any of your handicapped and/or elderly guests.

When selecting a venue, make sure there ramps, elevators, and not too many stairs! The entry to your venue should be easily accessible, like the bathrooms, and other room you’re using for your celebration.

I once had a friend host her wedding on one floor, and dinner on the second floor. While most of the staff was there to help, why make it so difficult from the very beginning? With that said, please remind yourself to remember those of us who have a difficult time with such things. They may not thank you in person, but trust me, they are eternally grateful to be considered.

    Weather appropriate accessories

Summer weddings are all the hype. With that said, know what to provide your guests with at every table. Items such as sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray, shade, and fans are a must in this summer heat.

You should be willing to provide these simple items if your loved ones are coming out to celebrate, say, in the middle of July.

    via GIPHY

Winter weddings don’t demand as much, but the weather can be very unpredictable. Providing simple favors such as blankets and umbrellas is an excellent way of thanking your guests and showing them you care.

Taxis on wait for tired/intoxicated guests

Not much to be said here.

Someone is bound to have one too many drinks and will need help when driving home. If they live far, make arrangements with the nearest hotels to let them know that guests may be coming to spend the night, and you are responsible for them. Their safety should be your priority.

    Most importantly, food.

One, I don’t care what you serve and two, just make there’s enough to go around, ok?

No little salmon fillet with creamy lemon dill sauce that I can finish down in two bites, I beg you. I don’t have time to stop at the nearest Del Taco on my way home. Maybe you won’t hear it from anyone else, so here it is: I’ve been busy all day trying to figure out what to wear and what color eyeliner I should apply to bring out my brown eyes, that I forgot to eat.

    via GIPHY

Yes, I know it’s your wedding, but that doesn’t mean I can’t look my best. Now that the truth has been set free…do your guests a favor and provide them with enough food. That’s all we ask.

  • Top 5 Things Worth Embroidering Your New Name on

Top 5 Things Worth Embroidering Your New Name on

Alright, I know what you’re thinking, and yes, I was thinking about it, too.

Do people still embroider anything these days? The answer to that question, my friend, is yes, they still do.

Why? Because embroidery has been and still is one of the unique methods of designs when it comes to apparel decorating. People see an embroidered item and immediately think it’s exclusive, it required steady work and consists of high quality. The art of embroidery is no small task, and if you’re looking to learn, then you can. But if time is not on your side yet you want a specific item embroidered; then some companies will do the embroidery for you!

Honestly, with the advancement of technology, it feels like you can accomplish anything with the push of a button.

Anyways, moving on. If you’re newly married and want to see your new name embroidered everywhere, we got you. There are tons of options, but just so we don’t spiral out of control, here are our top five.

    Apron

For someone who isn’t that big of a fan of the kitchen, I sure spend a generous amount of paycheck on it. Like Mario Batali said, “The kitchen really is the castle itself.”

If you or your partner are cooks, bakers, YouTubers, or the chefs of the family, then the reasons to get your last name embroidered on an apron just shot up. Just think about it. You waltz into that kitchen with your partner; you find the apron with your new name on it, you wear it knowing you’re about to cook up something that will set your partner’s taste buds on fire. It’s an accomplishment in and of itself!

If you think I’m over exaggerating, you’re probably right. Years of watching MasterChef, I now genuinely believe the kitchen is more of a warzone than another room in the house.

Anyhow,  if you’re looking to embroider an apron for you and your partner and want the absolute best quality and your own design, then head on over hear to Embroidable Linens

    T-shirt

A t-shirt, a sweater, tank top, or crop top; anything you can wear can be embroidered.

Of course, that doesn’t mean it should be. But hey, if you want to get crazy, then get crazy because we only live once, after all.

    Etsy

When placing your first or last name on a T-shirt, you want to keep it simple and tiny. For example, if there’s a small pocket on your shirt, you would place your name there. If it has a collar, then you would embroider the name there. The choices are endless when it comes to garments because of the large amount of space provided. You can choose the hemline, the neckline, the back of the shirt, the middle front, and even sideways. It’s how you wish to be creative at that point. You can even get matching shirts for you and your partner to celebrate your new identity. Time for selfies!

    Towel & Robes

You’ve heard of Mrs. and Mr., His and Hers, Bride and Groom.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you (drumroll, please)… Harry and Sally!

    Monogram Shop

It’s not those specifically, but you get my point. C’mon, what screams “newlyweds” more than towels & robes?

When you think of towels and robes, you think of hot showers, cleanliness, cuddling, and the end of a long day with your partner-in-crime. Embroidered towels and robes are a great vision for you and a great addition to your home. It may seem like towels have little meaning, but a ton of memories can be made from just sitting wrapped in a towel. If you know, then you know…

    Personalizatiin Mall

The Mr. and Mrs. robes are just the cutest and best way to hang out in your honeymoon suite and relax with your new husband or wife.

    Baseball cap

When I was a kid, I found a cap with my name embroidered on it. I was twelve at the time, so it was a pretty big deal. Growing up, you’re not going to find your name on the back of caps that often, so you keep the memory alive by embroidering your own.

    Etsy

See, that’s what I did because 1) I grew up in Southern California and the sun never disappeared and 2) I looked really good in them. Also, a bad hair day was every other day for me, so let’s add that to the list.

Caps are great if you and your partner are planning a getaway. Adding your new last name to a cap is another cute reminder of who you are now. People will automatically know you’re newlyweds!

    Pillowcases

It’s time to take pillow talk to a whole nother level. While you can just get your last name embroidered on a pillow, you can add a few words to make it more special. Some examples are: “Yours Forever”, “Be Mine”, “The New Mrs.”. Keep in mind that the bedroom is the most important room for a married couple, so why not make it memorable?

  • Outdoor Activities To Check Off Your Summer Bucket List

Outdoor Activities To Check Off Your Summer Bucket List

Summer is great. The kids are out of school, the weather is hotter, there seems like there’s nothing to do yet for some reason, your to-do list keeps growing longer and the day seems never to end.

Unfortunately, nowadays, the majority of people would rather spend their days inside with the air conditioning blasting on high. If you’re not a parent, you might have your own plans on how to spend your summer days, and that’s ok, but for those of us with children…

    via GIPHY

Let’s just say it’s not the most spontaneous thing watching your kids spend the whole day watching TV and playing video games till their minds grow numb.

No matter how busy you are (parent or not), here are just a few activities to help you kick off the summer and keep you hustling.

    Go on a hike

Why not, right? The weather is perfect for this particular activity, and your friends have been begging you to spare a day and join them on some new trail they discovered!

Fortunately, this is a beautiful family activity, as well.

    via GIPHY

Even if you’re a fitness enthusiast, nature will always have the upper hand when it comes to getting a workout in. The best part (for me at least), you can include your dog. Not only that, but hiking requires little to no equipment! It’s an excellent experience for the little ones, the sights you’ll see are remarkable, and getting to be all around that greenery and fresh air is stimulating and very rejuvenating!

    Set up a camping trip

I remember as a child; I never had to think about planning a camping trip, because hello, ‘that’s what mom was for.

    via GIPHY

But now, being a mom myself, I had to learn how to do all that myself.

First, acknowledge that camping is possibly the best thing in the whole world. You get away from whatever life ‘you’ve got going on; you get to spend quality time with your family and friends, you uncover new things such as fishing, setting up a tent, and even building a fire. If that’s not enough, you will also get your daily dose of Vitamin D, peace of mind, the sounds of nature, and of course, the second-best possible thing in the world…S’mores.

For more information on setting up your very own camping trip, click here.

Spend the night at the beach

By night, I do mean: get there in time to watch the sunset and the sky fill with orange, red, violet hues and gaze in awe at the jaw-dropping beauty that is our planet.

    via GIPHY

If you thought meditation was good for the soul, try stargazing at a beach in the middle of the night. The sound of the waves coming and going, the crisp night air filling your lungs, and the smell of the ocean decluttering your mind. This is one of those spurs of the moment plans. You can bring a sleeping bag or set up a tent, and that’s it!

    Visit an Amusement Park

Growing up in SoCal, this was our thing. Our family would at least hit three amusement parks a week. Despite long lines and the expensive food (we eventually started sneaking in our own), the atmosphere encompassing an amusement park makes you feel giddy all over. If rides aren’t your thing, then that’s fine. You can still join in on the fun because now, several parks offer entertainment, plays/shows, and tours.

    via GIPHY

If it’s too hot for roller coaster rides, then find the nearest water park in your area. Whether you’re going with friends, family, or by yourself, it’s a smart and exhilarating way to cool down.

    Build your very own waterpark

Yes, you read that right, you can build a waterpark right in your backyard. If you’re looking to save money, invent something new, and be in the comfort of your own home, then this is the activity for you. The best part about this activity is that you can have your little helpers give you a hand so they can keep busy, as well. It’s all part of the fun experience before setting everything up and enjoying the ride.

    Learn something new

I get it. School’s over, and we want to have fun only. I don’t mean to be that person-especially since it’s summer- but learning something new is fun.

    via GIPHY

You don’t even have to sign up for a class or get up early or make it feel like a responsibility. Learning something new could be as simple as perfecting a recipe or as complicated as learning a new language.

Granted, you will not learn a new language in 3 months, but getting started is what counts.

Seriously, it could be anything! Two summers ago, I learned how to rollerblade, and now I practice it religiously. My point being, you never know what your next addiction could be, so why not?

  • Vacation Spots You Don’t Want to Miss This Summer

Vacation Spots You Don’t Want to Miss This Summer

The need to travel always seems more notable during the summer season. The kids are off of school, the days drag on, the weather is hotter, and everything just seems more tiring. Plus, if you are not keeping busy, then the words “I am bored” will forever be scarred in your brain.

The top picks for summer spots are endless! Really, there are thousands of places that are bound to help you create long-lasting memories. Unfortunately, we could not fit all of them on a list, so here are just a few of our favorites.

    The Great Barrier Reef (Australia)

Known as one of the original Seven Wonders of the World, this is easily one of Australia’s biggest tourist attractions! Not only is The Great Barrier Reef the world’s most extensive coral reef system, but it is home to over 6000 species of sea life! While many people swarm here to admire the colorful marine life through snorkeling and diving, there are several other ventures you can take on. If you are not a swimmer, it is no problem; you can admire the beautiful transparent waters by boat or by air! Depending on how adventurous you are feeling, the choice is entirely up to you! Just be sure to plan everything out so you do not miss out on anything while you are here.

    Kruger National Park (South Africa)

If you are looking to get back in touch with nature and unleash your wild side, then this is the place for you. With options like group safaris, hikes, elephant back riding, camping, fishing, and quad biking, it is impossible to plan out your day with the many offers. You will get the chance to spot all wildlife and explore the park and see things you have only seen on National Geographic.

    Tripsavvy

It is also a great learning opportunity as you will acquire more about the animals, their lifestyle, and how we can prevent them from becoming extinct.

    Colorado Springs (Colorado)

Even though Colorado Springs is mostly known for its military bases, do not let that distract you from the fact that it is one of the more beautiful states in America. It is home to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and The Broadmoor Seven Falls. So for all my nature lovers, adrenaline junkies, and even photographers, Colorado Springs is a must add to your bucket list. Experience hikes of a lifetime, incredible shots of the breathtaking scenery, and enjoy tours of the Air Force Academy and U.S Olympic Training Center.

It’s not just the free healthcare that’s urging so many people to come to Canada; it’s the jaw-dropping views and endless adventures.

Known to many ski enthusiasts as one of the most magnificent ski resorts in the world, Whistler in the summer is rarely heard of. Activities include fishing in the many rivers and lakes, hundreds of miles of hiking trails, zip-lining (not for the faint-hearted), white water rafting, and of course, sightseeing.

    Tourism Whistler

It’s no secret that Canada’s scenery is like no other in the world, and its beauty is one of a kind. If you’ve yet had to drive up (or fly) to Canada to enjoy the unforgettable sights, Whistler in the summer is the place to go.

    Amalfi Coast  (Italy)

Ok, if we’re honest here, you don’t need a specific spot in Italy. Just go to Italy. I mean, c’ mon, everything about Italy brings on emotions you never knew existed (in the best way). But since we are talking about specific destinations, then you must visit the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

    Viator

This particular location is not as adventurous as the rest, but you sure as hell can be sure you’ll leave unwound, smiling, and craving more Italy.

If you want some beautiful scenery, then head to the north of Amalfi, where the town of Sorrento is located. If you’re an art or history major, you will fall head over heels in love with the town considering its long history. While there are tours of the town, the real gem here is the food. Many restaurants such as Marina Grande offer some of the best seafood you will ever taste while overlooking the Medditerarm.

    San Francisco (California)

Golden Gate Bridge? Fisherman’s Wharf? Alcatraz Island? Union Square? Art museums? Redwood Forest? Cable cars??

Must I go on? You guys must have known San Francisco was going to make the list, because hello, Ghirardelli Square? The best chocolate to ever exist (this is not up for debate). The atmosphere is euphoric, the people are incredible, the food is unforgettable, and you get to ride a bike everywhere! So not only are you enjoying one of the most incredible places in the world, but you’re doing your part in saving our planet! Yay!

  • DIY Activities for Kids This Summer

DIY Activities for Kids This Summer

It is finally summertime, my good folks, and temperatures this year have been record-breaking. It is hot, humid, and sticky!

Before giving birth to the most amazing kids in the world, my usual summer plans would be me in a bathing suit, stretched out in the backyard, getting a tan.

Now…well, now it’s just more fun (and noisier…and messier). Still, I wouldn’t change it for the world!

As if the rest of the year wasn’t hard enough for your typical stay at home parent, now the kids are on summer vacation.  So the little ones don’t get fussy, you need an idea on how to keep them busy, relaxed, and cool.

Well, have no fear, we’ve got the perfect compilation of easy DIY summer activities that will have you releasing your inner kid, too!

    Ice Block Treasure Hunt

You think Summer; you’re going to think about large bodies of water (pools, lakes, beaches, etc.). But staying home and putting together these affordable and simple activities will be less of a headache and you will be in the comfort of your own home!

For this activity, you will need a large container, children’s small toys (animals, shovels, bouncy balls), water, and a parent’s supervision since your child will be using heavy-duty tools.

The idea is to place all the toys in the bin, cover them with water, and freeze them overnight! Have someone help you turn the bin upside down the next day, and that’s it!

    The Krazy Koupon Lady

Have your child wear safety goggles as they chip away on the ice with a small hammer to rediscover their toys! They can also use room temperature water over the ice to help it melt faster.

Another version of this activity is using a small container and freezing the toys in layers of ice. Click here to watch the super simple video!

    Washing Farm Animal Sensory Bin

Yes, another activity with a bin, because they are genuinely life-saving equipment when you’re a parent! Not only is this a great summer activity for your toddler and kids, but it’s an excellent activity for any time of the year. Its simplicity makes it a recurring favorite in our home.

    Coffee Cups and Crayons

All you need is a bin, dirt, dish soap, water, small farm animal, washcloths (brushes, sponges, etc.). Happy cleaning!

    Bubble Trucks (Bubble Foam!)

Ok, if you don’t play with this foam more than your kids, get back to me!

Will you need a bin or any other type of large container? Uhm, yes.

Let’s just get this out of the way right now. If you don’t own any large bins or containers and you are a parent, then you need to haul your butt to the container store right now and get to purchasing!

    Busy Toddler

Bubble bath/ body wash, water, food coloring (optional), toy trucks, or any other types of vehicles (preferably small).

    That’s it. Boom. Life changed.

Rainbow Ice Cube Painting/ Frozen Popsicle Chalk

For ice cube painting, you will need two ingredients: liquid watercolors and water. You fill your ice cube tray with ⅔ water and ⅓ paint and stir! The activity doesn’t call for it, but you can place foil over the ice cube tray and place popsicle sticks so it would be easier to hold when frozen.

    Things to Share and Remember

The frozen popsicles hold the same idea but use tempera paint and cornstarch for the recipe. Read more about the activity here

    Water Balloon Pinata/Water Balloon Volleyball

C’mon, you know this heat is just going to get worse, so why not tie up balloons filled with water, blindfold your kid, hand them a foam bat, and get to swinging!

    Fireflies and Mudpies

If you want something a little more competitive, then grab some towels! Water balloon volleyball is a fantastic group summer activity where kids have to work together to get the water balloon from their sheet, over the net, and without popping it!

    Toddler Fishing

This one is for all my toddlers out there. They can’t do anything serious yet, so sitting in a pool of water is pretty much is as exciting as it gets. Please do not leave your child unattended while they are still in the pool.

    I Can Teach My Child

The idea is to fill your kiddie pool with water, dump a few bath (or any water) animals in there, and set them in. Give them a small net to attempt to catch the animals in the water. This is a great way to strengthen their fine motor skills, as well.

    Spray Bottle Silhouette Art

Alright, so something that doesn’t have to do with water. You will need adult supervision with this activity because it does involve a spray bottle, and you don’t want your kid spraying the walls with paint.

    My Sister’s Suitcase

The process is relatively simple and will result in a beautiful art piece that you could eventually frame.

    Rainbow Spaghetti Sensory Activity

Another great sensory activity for toddlers (and older kids as well!).

    Little Learning Club

All you need is spaghetti and food coloring. This is one of those activities that you can prep before the kids wake up on a busy day, and not worry about it for the rest of the day.

  • How to Write a Thank-You Note

How to Write a Thank-You Note

You would think something as simple as saying thank you would be just that- simple. In a few cases, it is.

But there are events in our life where just saying thank you may not be enough, but attempting to arrange your appreciative thoughts into words may not seem so easy.

Besides, how do you even write a thank-you note?

    via GIPHY

Don’t worry; we’re here to walk you through it.

First thing you need to know is that there is no need to overthink the process as long as you have a clear idea of who the note’s for, and what you’re thanking that person for.  Once you have a clear idea of how your note will be outlined, the rest will come naturally.

Below is an example of how to write a professional, friendly, or special thank-you note.

When writing for professional purposes, keep in mind…

You are not writing just because you may have gotten the job or position you have applied for.

In fact, you should always send a thank-you note to the interviewer right after your interview regardless of the result. By doing so, you are emphasizing how important this position is to you. Other than thanking the interviewers for their time,  you should also (re)state why you deserve the position applied for. You do this by repeating what your qualifications are, how you would help the company grow, and anything else you might believe to be important in getting you the job.

    via GIPHY

This way, you are not only selling yourself to the company, but you are showing your appreciation to the people that work there. Something as simple as sending the right thank you note can help you build a stable relationship with the employer and help you mold a better future for yourself.

Here are some examples and tips on what a professional thank-you note should look like.

When writing to a close friend, remember that…

No matter how close you might be with the person, the note you write will still need to be sincere. We tend to slack when it comes to our closest friends because they’ve already accepted us, so why bother, right?

You might think that you being thankful is a given and they should know that, and they do! But people still like to feel like they are appreciated, so let’s show them how much they mean to us by reminding them that they are one in a million!

    via GIPHY

So, what makes a note to a friend special? There are several things you can jot down that will trigger a reaction in your buddy, like the memories you created together. Maybe you’ve gone on a few adventures that you will never forget, or perhaps the silliness you both share is what formed this connection you’ll share forever.

Just make sure not to get carried away, or that note will become a letter.  Finding a friend that will stick a lifetime with you is not easy, and they feel closer than family at some point.

Again, it doesn’t need to be a long note. You can include a few polaroids of you both together, a time and place to meet for brunch, two tickets to the AMC (or a spa day!). Honestly, the ways to thank a friend for their continuous support are endless. In the end, you know that just by showing your gratitude, it will make their day.

    via GIPHY

Here are some tips on how to write a heartfelt note to a close friend.

When writing to that special someone…

A majority of the time, your partner is undoubtedly the most important person in your life. I mean, that’s your soulmate, your other half, the yin to your yang. It always seems like no matter the situation; we are forever in debt to our special someone. They make the bad go away, know when we’re feeling down, know how to make us feel better, and they’re there for us through the good and bad.

When you’re writing that note, you know it’s going to be tough to write how you feel, because we tend to be speechless when putting gratitude for our loved ones into words.

    via GIPHY

But see, that’s the great thing about special relationships, they demand more action than words. So if you want to thank your partner for making you a better person, always being there for you, and putting up with you no matter what, a thank-you note should be kept simple and quick.

Your love and wisdom have shaped me into a better person, and I’m beyond grateful I get to hold your hand throughout this journey called life.

See? One sentence can hold a ton of meaning and have your partner gushing over you.

The key to thank- you notes is really not overthinking it or overdoing it. SImplicity is key.
