5 Ways to Ensure a Fun, Memorable Summer

Ah, summer. Childhood memories come flooding back, reminding you that the only fun break you had as a child was indeed in the summer. There were no responsibilities, no errands to run, no assignments due. Just you and your friends chasing down the ice-cream truck and chilling in the pool at the YMCA.

I’m sure if you can turn back time, you would, but being an adult isn’t so bad. For one, you can finally take a sip of beer when grandpa offers it without your parents going at it with him.

    via GIPHY

Curfew? Nope. You can also stay up as late as you want. I mean, you probably want to be in bed by nine or ten at most cause you’re exhausted, and your ten-step skincare routine takes quite some time. You know it’s worth it, though, because when you hit thirty (yikes, I know), people will be like, “what? You don’t look thirty!” You’ll know that’s all thanks to the Korean skincare routine you’ve acquired off a sixteen-year-old on TikTok.

So yay! Trust me, summer as an adult is great. I think. I haven’t left my house since the second kid popped out…

I kid (kind of). Promise yourself that this summer, you’re going to create awesome memories, try something new, take risks, and have the time of your life. As tempting as it sounds, a shopping spree at Target is not an adventure.

Grab your polaroid and adventure stream; it’s time for some fun.

    Mom, Take Me to Venice!

Having been born around the ocean, raised around the ocean, and spent over half my time in the ocean, it’s safe to say that I love the ocean. When summer delivers the heat, grab your surfboard, and head over to the beach. Now, I know it sounds tacky because everyone’s at the beach this time of year, but is everyone there at four in the morning?

    via GIPHY

You heard me; my mom would drive me to Venice beach at four in the morning to avoid crowds, swim, and practice surfing. What makes this impossibly early adventure so great and memorable? Without doubt, the sunrise, calmness of the ocean, the whooshing of the waves, and chance to meditate in peace.

Imagine having a whole ocean to yourself for a couple of hours- the things you can do! Even if you’re not an avid swimmer, I guarantee that sitting at the shore and observing the other surfers prepare for their day is one of the coolest things you can do in the summer.

I Forgot the Question, but Camping Is the Answer

I once read a quote that said, “time camping isn’t time spent- it’s invested.”

You want to get away from your modern, industrious city life; then, I may know what might help you reconnect with what truly matters and disconnect from all the noise you’ve decided to leave behind.

As we age, we’re more turned on by solitude, quietness, and the perfect “get away” from our current lives. There’s a whole psychology behind this, but we’ll save that topic for a rainy day. The point is that basking in nature has proven nothing but good for the body and soul, and what better time than summer?

    via GIPHY

This is your chance to clear your mind, inhale some authentic, fresh air, get grounded with mother nature, and realign with your original purpose. Hey, what says fun more than healing your soul, being around a campfire eating s’ mores and drinking a margarita?

    We Have That? Here?!

A friend once called me up and asked me if I wanted to join him on a tour of the city. At first, I was confused and a bit skeptical- a tour of our town? We grew up here! Out of pure boredom, I agreed and joined him and a few buddies on a tour of Los Angeles.

Holy crap, how have I never been to The Bradbury Building? How have I never heard of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery? I was more intrigued than actual tourists! I captured over three hundred photos on just two hours of touring! Imagine if I spent a whole day exploring the city I called home?

    via GIPHY

The point I’m trying to get across is you don’t have to do anything out of this world to have a great time. What you’re looking for can literally be right under your nose.

    Take a Risk

When I was ten, I witnessed a group of men jumping off a cliff and into the ocean. I immediately went to my dad and begged him to let me do the same thing which he retaliates with “it’s too dangerous honey, those people are crazy” or “when you get older, you can do that, too” or “we’ll eventually go.”

Spoiler alert, I never got to go on a safari even though it was all I talked about for five years. You say you’ll eventually do it, but as you age, you allow life to get in the way, and you don’t do anything.

    via GIPHY

Aren’t you sick of spending all your “fun” nights at Applebee’s? Think of something that scares the living crap out of you and do it this summer. Scuba diving? Taking a ride in a hot air balloon? Traveling to a foreign country? Skiing in Alberta? Going on a damn safari?

When we do something that’s out of our comfort zone, it tends to stick with us for the rest of our life and allows space for change.

    Let Laziness Win

You heard, right. Do nothing. I mean, you can build a hammock and fall asleep under the stars, which is excellent. But if lying in bed and watching Netflix all day is your thing, then go for it. Maybe you’ve had a tough year, and nothing is what you’ve been looking forward to doing. Believe me; I am the last person to judge.

    Have a safe summer, everyone!

  • Underrated Registry Items No One Thinks of

Underrated Registry Items No One Thinks of

Ah, the wedding registry. It started as a tradition to inform your guests which kitchen appliances you desire or if you prefer China over crystal. Thanks to the never-ending advancement of technology, you no longer have to stroll through a Bed, Bath, and Beyond with a scanner and unraveling indecisiveness.

Yes, you now have several places that not only offer the appliances you need but also websites such as Present Value and Honey Fund that allow your guests to send you money instead of writing checks. I mean, come on, it’s 2020, who even writes checks anymore?

Your possibilities are endless, so settling for traditional is a thing of the past. Without further ado, I present to you registry items that are absolute lifesavers, and no one thinks of getting.

    For The Kitchen

Yes, the kitchen is the priority, don’t start judging unless you’re crazy obsessed with becoming a chef like moi. Kitchen appliances are expensive, and for what? So I can spiralize zucchini and pretend like it’s a tastier alternative to the pasta family? I don’t think so. This is your chance to invest in appliances and have other people buy it for you. Hey, it’s how it works.

Air Fryer: Ah, yes, another alternative to using less oil and getting (almost) the same results as actual deep frying. The air fryer was all the rage when it first made an appearance, and you probably can find one in every American household. If you’re like me and love your food fried, this option is less mess, less oil, and a great addition to  a healthier lifestyle.

    via GIPHY

Oh, and everyone that comes over will ask you if it was worth it, and you’ll proceed to brag about how your children or husband “can’t even tell the difference”. Win-win.

Ginsu Chikara Forged Knives: You’re probably wondering, why these specific knives? To be honest with you- they are Amazon’s Choice, on sale, and have high ratings and praises in the comments. Also, everything else was incredibly expensive. Why are knives so expensive? you may ask.  I’m sure a three Michelin star chef somewhere has the answer (or Google), but don’t miss out on your chance to invest in high-quality knives that you don’t have to pay for. C’mon, you know these are important and will come in handy (haha, get it?).

    For The Bathroom

The little things matter. Even a room that may seem insignificant deserves the same care as the other rooms in your home!  Setting a specific theme in your bathroom is a great way to decide what needs to be put in it. Just do us a favor and don’t be one of those who put a scale in plain view…just don’t do it. It’s bound to ruin someone’s evening, I guarantee it.

Wall Mirror: Imagine walking into someone’s bathroom, and they have this in their bathroom. Like hello, why aren’t more people doing this? As much as I love to check my face after a great session on the throne, I’d much rather check everything. This addition will not only complete your bathroom’s overall look but will also benefit your guests when they need to check themselves and need a full view.

    via GIPHY

Plants: You’d think it’d be more common to see plants in the bathroom, considering every other room gets a damn plant, but just the opposite. Because of it’s low light, humid environment, there are several plants that actually thrive in this environment. You’ve seen the way they complete spaces! Either that or my Pinterest addiction is getting out of hand…

For a list of bathroom plants, click here.

    For The Living Room

More plants! Of course, this is another great room where plants should be present. But there are other priorities. I know what you’re thinking: what could be more important than plants? There is, my friend, and they will make a huge difference to how comfortable your guest feel when they come over.

Comfortable Rug: A luxurious rug. Those plush, soft, “want to sink your whole body into them” rugs. Not the lightweight, dull, and bright colored rugs. If you were to tell me that I could only choose one person to survive the zombie apocalypse with, it’d be the person with this rug.

    via GIPHY

Wall Art: More specifically, a piece of art that tells a story you’re fond of. What a great conversation starter, right? This adds an artist aspect to the room, but it’d be personal to you, as well. And it would help if you always had something personal or unique to you (the host) for others to see. This includes pictures of the family or a university degree you’re proud to show off.

    For The Bedroom

I’m going to admit something, and it’s not pretty, but it needs to be said. For a considerable chunk of my adult life, I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about what was in my bedroom, how it was arranged, the wall color, the carpet…it just never made sense to me.

Then I finally owned a home, and it all came crashing down. There is a difference between sky blue and baby blue, and hey, it may be useless to know in the long run, but there will be a moment you’ll need that bit of knowledge, and you’ll wish you had listened to me.

White Noise Machine: A little background noise never hurt, am I right? People are always skeptical when it comes to white noise. Does it really work? According to a study conducted by Science Direct, they found that hospital patients fell asleep more soundly with white noise than others that didn’t. At the end of the day, you’re positively exhausted, and if science says it works, who are we to question it?

    via GIPHY

Blackout Curtains: “Blackout curtains have three main functions: Block light, block noise, reduce energy costs.” After reading this one line off of How Stuff Works, I was hooked. If you or your partner work during the day, then trust that these are a fantastic investment. Astonishingly, more people don’t own these since they’ve been proven to help you sleep, and twenty-five percent of Americans have insomnia (Science Daily).

  • The Do’s and Don’ts of Throwing a Bachelorette Party

The Do’s and Don’ts of Throwing a Bachelorette Party

If you have the honor to plan the bride’s bachelorette party, I have three words for you: it’s rager time.

And by rager time, I do mean exactly what the bride requested, not stepping out of bounds and planning an event she might be uncomfortable with because you thought you knew better.

If you think all bachelorette parties consist of strippers, unlimited alcohol, and a penis-shaped pinata, I’ve got some news for you: uhm…they don’t. With the way Hollywood portrays them in films, it’s almost impossible not to think of Vegas, dance clubs, and blacking out by the end of the night with no recollection of anything the next morning.

    via GIPHY

I mean, really? That’s just dramatic. If I were ten years younger, maybe it would’ve sounded a tad appalling, but nowadays, even applying eyeliner is an exhausting feat.

So, maid of honor, what tasks must you complete on your path to victory? They’re mainly common sense stuff, so no worries, but before we dive in and explain the do’s and don’ts, it’s fair to mention the bride’s role in this situation, so put the bride on.

The bride must be notably clear on what she expects of the party. For example, do you want this party to be a “let’s get lit” party or a “spa day at the Hamptons” party? Is there a particular theme you had in mind? If you have something specific in mind like flying off to Nevada to get the full experience, are your friends financially equipped to make it happen? You don’t want to put your loved ones in a position where they may feel guilty if they don’t pitch in. Be attentive when making your decision.

Is alcohol permitted, and if so, how much is too much? If there will be people who don’t drink alcohol attending, what other drink alternatives are available? If you’re planning on hiring strippers, will your significant other be comfortable with that? Who exactly is permitted to come? You clearly can’t invite all your girlfriends, so which ones will be the chosen ones?

    via GIPHY

It may sound stressful, but communication is critical here. Don’t expect the maid of honor to figure this all out on her own! Her planning is solely based on your expectations!

One more thing. The bride’s job is not to plan or micromanage this event. Are you listening? The bride’s job is not to plan or micromanage this event. Don’t be that bride. With few considerations in mind, let your maid of honor know what you expect, and she’ll take care of the rest.

Now, MOH, here are your don’ts.

Don’t go against the bride’s wishes. No strippers mean no strippers. This isn’t some cliche bridesmaids film where they end up arranging a stripper, and the bride becomes weirdly ecstatic. Yeah, no.

Your bride’s decisions may be based on her partner’s comfort as well as her own. She will be annoyed if you take matters into your own hands. If you feel like a steamy fireman is what the party needs, then feel free to throw your own bachelorette party or hire them on your own time.

    via GIPHY

Don’t wait until the last week before the wedding to plan the party. For many brides, the wedding is the most joyous day of their life but also the most stressful! This event will destress her as much as possible before she falls back to her hectic daily planning.

Don’t make the bride wear anything she doesn’t want to, whether it’s something as simple as a t-shirt or a hat with a penis coming out of it. If she says no, it means no. Her consent is everything because this is her party. Your only job is to make her as happy and comfortable as possible.

Last but not least, don’t send invitations out last minute. Be smarter than that.

    via GIPHY

    Now, for the do’s

Do communicate with the bride, her partner, and the guests. Once again, communication is key here. It’s not a bad idea to check in with the bride if you’re questionable about something. You can also check in with her partner to see if they’d like to pitch in something or plan a surprise. Keep your guests up to date with the details and make sure they know the party’s time, place, and date.

Also, if guests need to pitch in more money, let them know ahead of time, because not all may be able to afford it. Take advantage of lower airfare if the event is overseas.

Do plan activities to keep the party alive. If you’re hosting a low-key type of party, then activities are a must. If you think you can wing it when the party begins, think again. What activities you pick are the difference between a great or lame party.

    via GIPHY

Do take tons and tons of pics. It’s still a party after all! A great idea? Creating a scrapbook for the bride and presenting it to her on her wedding day! Bad idea? Posting the pics on social media without her consent… Be careful in the choices you make with the pictures you take!

Do take it easy and have a great time. In the end, it’s all your closest girlfriends celebrating love and life. Follow these few simple rules, and you’ll have nothing to worry about.

  • Wedding Insurance: Is It Worth Having?

Wedding Insurance: Is It Worth Having?

    Weddings.

We love them, right? For many of us, it’s one of the biggest -and possibly happiest- days of our lives.

The road to planning a wedding…well, it’s a bumpy road full of headaches, tears, and uncertainty. There’s some joy in there somewhere, but let’s be honest, everything settles after the wedding. The result is a beautiful ceremony celebrating the love of two souls, so it can’t be that bad.

As you stroll down this road trying to find the perfect dress, venue, theme, cake, and more- one of the things you may encounter on the highs and lows of this adventure is wedding insurance. Now, if you just read the word ‘insurance’ and your heart made a dip, I genuinely feel for you. It conjures images of never-ending paperwork, bills, and institutes tension.

    via GIPHY

Wedding insurance is a significant investment that helps protect losses and reimburse expenses on your wedding day that are out of your control. The reasons to get wedding insurance may not seem evident at first, but when you begin to think of all the scenarios that can occur…you begin to see the bigger picture.

An example, you ask? As horrible as these sound- and God forbid you encounter any on your special day- they can happen to anyone. A family member gets into a car accident, your ring is suddenly stolen, guests acquire food poisoning, a parent becomes severely ill, the photographer doesn’t show up, the officiant doesn’t show up, a vendor becomes a no-show, the venue unexpectedly shuts down, you or your partner are called away for important business, and the list goes on and on. It sucks to think about, but once again, it can happen to anyone

If you’re lucky, the venue you choose will have its own insurance policy, and save you the trouble of having to look for one. Others may not, but still require you to pay for wedding insurance to cover liquor and personal liabilities, weather, or injuries. If you’re planning the wedding at a friend’s house or your home, homeowner or renter’s insurance will also cover any liabilities. There’s bound to be some drunkards that always inflict some damage. You know who I’m referring to…you know

    via GIPHY

Still, it’s best to know what your insurance does and does not cover so you can come prepared for any situation.

    Types of Wedding Policies

There are three types of insurance coverages: liability, cancellation/postponement, and additional.

The liability policy comes to the rescue when there is significant damage inflicted on the chosen venue. The venue can sue you for any damage caused by your drunk guests (liquor liability), whether it’s destroying equipment or setting something on fire. Fortunately, you won’t be held responsible, and insurance should cover it. This also applies to injuries that may occur during the ceremony, or if a pregnant woman decides to give birth on your dance floor.

Yes, and it’s not something we want to imagine happening on our wedding day. Imagine a newborn baby being the talk of your wedding—the nerve

According to The Knot, “liability insurance, which covers up to $1,000,000 for accidents, costs around $185.”

    via GIPHY

The cancellation policy reimburses you for every single penny spent on your wedding. This includes helping you pay for a new ceremony and reception. It also applies when there’s unexpected extreme weather, a medical emergency in the immediate family, or anything out of your control. If a problem arises and you need to postpone your wedding, this is where the policy comes into effect. Keep in mind, a change of heart- or cold feet– does not apply here. If you’re having second thoughts, take it up with your partner, not the insurance company.

Additional coverage (sold as a separate policy) covers “other wedding related items such as photography, videography, and gifts.” Also, if you’re planning something extravagant such as fireworks or a theme wedding that holds exotic animals, you will need to pay a handsome fee if you find an insurance company willing to sign you up. It’s risky and insurance companies don’t like that.

It’s always best to know what your insurance covers, especially if you’re planning your big day around later seasons, or unpredictable situations. If something goes wrong with the venue you booked, your insurance should cover it. The same goes for extreme weather such as snowstorms or a vendor doesn’t show up. According to Travelers, the most common “claims include bankrupt venues, injury or illness, and disruptive weather. If a vendor goes out of business unexpectedly or does not show up.”

  • How to Prepare for Life After Quarantine

How to Prepare for Life After Quarantine

With the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly spreading throughout the world, no one is certain of what’s to happen in the next couple of weeks, months, and possibly years. Hopefully, it never reaches that extent, and life can resume to how it was sooner than later.

The last few months have taken their toll on individuals, mentally, physically, and financially. According to NBC News, “The coronavirus outbreak made America’s job market go from 60 to zero in the blink of an eye.”

With its toll on mental health, cortisol levels are soaring at an all-time high as people struggle to understand what the future holds.

    via GIPHY

Will their state reopen? Do they keep their jobs? Do the kids go back to school? Are they able to afford to live this way?

You can guess, all this wondering can make one antsy and overall pessimistic. Instead of expecting the worst, I like to think a brighter future is near, and lives will resume as they were, or even better than before. Keep in mind; this ban is bound to lift eventually, so envisioning your next steps is what will help you stay productive. This is why the following list will help you prioritize what to prepare as soon as social distancing is over.

    Shiny Up Your Resume

Like I mentioned earlier, we are seeing the highest levels of unemployment since before WWII, and unfortunately, those numbers are only increasing. At this time, it’s best to look over your resume and tidy it up.

    via GIPHY

Since you have all the time in the world now, you can shoot a new profile picture, edit your achievements or education, or add any new skills you have acquired in the past year. You want to be completely prepared to hunt for a job after quarantine because while some may get their job back, others won’t be as lucky.

Novoresume and Canva are two of the most exceptional services to assist you to build a job-worthy resume.

    Take an Online Course

One of the pluses of lockdown (believe it or not) is the several free courses colleges and universities are offering around the world—some dapple in business, art, science, history, and more. If you’re willing to sacrifice an hour of your day (which you probably can, no excuses), then you will surely be able to learn something new and acquire a new skill (coding, marketing, trading). You can later apply this when looking for a job or in your current situation.

For a list of sites that offer free or affordable online classes, click here

    Keep a Strict Workout Regime

As we all know, lack of physical activity can hugely affect your mental and physical health. With uncertainty becoming a familiar guest in our homes, stress is continuously threatening our well-being. The answer? Get moving

    via GIPHY

Whether you have an at-home gym or no equipment at all, the World Health Organization (WHO) “recommends 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity per week, or a combination of both”.

Nothing too brutal, especially if you’re a beginner. If you have children, you can get them in on the fun and stay active as well. Following a channel on YouTube and committing to their workouts will help make a massive difference between a good or bad day. If you have a vast backyard, you can run or walk laps. If you have a swimming pool, then enjoy a dip in the sun. These are just a few ideas.

    Conclusion? Get moving

    Stay Connected with Loved Ones

Knowing you’re not alone in this mayhem might ease your mind a bit. Setting scheduled times to call or Facetime with friends and family will reassure you of that. It’s essential to stay connected with the outside world, and not wallow in a corner crying about your third failed attempt baking sourdough bread…

    via GIPHY

Here are a few ways to get the party started (virtually) and stay connected with the homies. Once you can meet face to face, you’ll already be caught up with everyone’s ongoings.

    Knowledge is Power

In his best selling book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki states that “The single most powerful asset we all have is our mind. If it is trained well, it can create enormous wealth in what seems to be an instant.”

    via GIPHY

I religiously live by this quote due to its accuracy. If you read up on any successful, wealthy person in the world, you’ll realize the majority have one thing in common: the power of knowledge. It’s the solid foundation of every thriving entrepreneur. Strive for one book a week, and don’t underestimate the ripple effect it can have on providing you with a pleasanter life.

    Plan a Road Trip

Being stuck at home for this long, you probably miss long car trips and the beautiful outdoors. If hikes were part of your weekly routine, then I know this is something you should consider planning.

    via GIPHY

If you want to include friends or family, then set up a video call with everyone and discuss the first place you’re heading to after quarantine. Whether you choose the mountains, lakes, or beaches, some fresh air and adventure will do wonders for your tired soul.

  • Best Workout Channels to Keep You Fit (At Home)

Best Workout Channels to Keep You Fit (At Home)

With summer rapidly approaching, many of us are beginning to change our habits to achieve that front cover of a magazine “summer bod.” Maybe it’s due to temperatures quickly rising, everyone posting their weight loss journey in quarantine, or perhaps you decided it’s time to take out that bikini you repurchased a few years back.

You admit you’ve put on a few extra pounds, and that’s ok. To become physically fit is a perpetual desire, and I’m sure at some point in your life you’ve thought of snapping a pic of your abs, drinking a celery shot or something, post it on Instagram with the caption “abs are made in the kitchen.”

Barf, I know. It’s easier said than done, my fellow foodies.

    via GIPHY

With several countries still on lockdown due to the widespread pandemic, gyms are temporarily shut down, as well. So you’re stuck at home, making whipped coffee for the second (maybe third…) time that day, even though you were one hundred percent positive that 2020 was your year.

It still can be. With the vast array of fitness channels online, becoming fit has never been easier. All you have to do is click play and get moving. Here are our favorites to help you get started!

    Fitness Blender

When I first discovered this channel, I fell in love with the creators.  The lovely couple has now surpassed six million subscribers on YouTube. They offer over 500 videos, all ranging from low impact, high impact, HIIT, and even yoga. The couple started the channel to make fitness accessible to anyone regardless of their income. Their home workouts are the “go-to” for millions around the world. Unlike many influencers in the fitness industry, Kelli and Daniel never advertise for companies that promote misleading information in the fitness world.

Their website also features a calendar to customize your workouts and meal plans. Don’t be fooled by their short twenty-minute videos! Just like the title states, they are absolutely brutal.

    Natacha Océane

Residing in London, this YouTube and Instagram star is a fitness enthusiast. She has over 850 thousand Instagram followers, and her intense HIIT workouts have crowned her the “queen of workouts.”

Her youtube channel provides not only some of the best workouts you’ll perform in your life, but vlogs, recipes, challenges, and the science behind fitness. She also offers several guides that will help you in starting your fitness journey from home and changing your lifestyle for the better.

    Yoga with Adriene

If you’ve been putting off learning yoga, it’s time to step up your game and quit making excuses. Adriene Mishler is here to offer guidance and hundreds of yoga videos for beginners like you.

In 2015, she was recognized by Google as “the most searched workout and received a Streamy in Health and Wellness in 2016. Join her community of over six million subscribers and learn from the very beginning how to be connected with your body and bring out your creative side.

    Mr and Mrs Muscle

Upper body, lower body, HIIT, core, Tabata, you name it, and this couple will leave you breathless every time.

According to their website, their community is over ten million strong, and it’s clear to see why. Deb and Mike provide over 1500 videos on their Youtube channel, and the majority of them are short, sweet, and will leave you drenched in sweat.

Their highly effective cardio and HIIT workouts have attracted the praise of athletes and fitness devotees from all over the world. While they do provide gym workouts, the vast majority is based at home. They provide content that most fitness influencers require you so pay for, so believe me when I say that this channel is well worth the time and effort.

    MadFit

You know it’s serious when you’re reading someone’s bio on Instagram, and it states a bunch of acronyms you don’t know.

Madison Murray is a certified personal trainer, certified functional strength coach, and certified Sports and Exercise Nutrition coach. When people see that the person they’re following knows what they’re preaching, they are more likely to support them.

What I love about her channel is she makes working out extremely fun. She has several playlists created for all types of workouts, including apartment-friendly, knee-friendly/low impact, beginners, yoga, and stretching. Don’t be fooled by the short duration of some videos! Get ready to feel the burn.

    Pamela Reif

Being relatively new to YouTube, Pamela Reif has a low amount of videos, but they are worth viewing. Several of her workouts are mainly for beginners, so don’t expect too much jumping around here.

Despite the short duration, her workouts have shown effectiveness as she racked up millions of views in the past year. As someone who started with a small following on Instagram, she has certainly proven herself a worthy entrepreneur in the fitness industry.

8 Creative (+ Romantic) Indoor Dates

With everyone around the world still on lockdown, couples everywhere are forced to make the best out of their situation while staying indoors. Many are celebrating their anniversaries from the comfort of their couch, and others have brought out their creative side to keep the romance sparkling.

Believe it or not, indoor dates with your partner are a great way to reconnect on a more intimate level. Why is that? It gives you both a chance to re-discover the traits you fell in love with when you first met. If your dates always consisted of crowded places, then this is your chance to create something more meaningful between the two of you.

Are you ready for a bond that goes beyond Netflix and chilling? Here are eight creative indoor dates that will cure boredom and keep the sparks flying.

    Paint a Room

Are you or your partner painters? It’s alright if you’re not because this won’t require much experience. You can master anything nowadays by watching YouTube. Painting is a therapeutic experience, and if you’re the artful couple, then this may be an excellent way to spend your date at home.

Pick a room in your home that can use a change, agree on a color (or colors), and start painting together! This video provides essential painting tips that will help you get started. If you are renting a property, painting on canvas is another marvelous idea.

    Blaze It (In the Kitchen)

When it comes to food, it’s safe to say my partner and I are always famished. We eat a lot. Couples who eat together, stay together, right? So why not kick it up a notch and initiate a cooking competition? Nothing too brutal, obviously, this isn’t Masterchef.

    via GIPHY

But you can make it enjoyable by setting some ground rules (ECCO rules), and the loser having to either give something up or commit to cleaning up after dinner.

This is a great way to enjoy each other’s company and spice it up in the kitchen. Wine should be present, uncontrollable laughter is a guarantee, and profanity is a must. I know it’s just a friendly competition, but in the end…there can only be one winner.

Order Take out + Virtual Tour

Since all our favorite restaurants are closed due to the pandemic, few are offering take-out. Thank God for those of us who have children. If you decide that sitting on your couch, eating Thai food, and watching a virtual tour online is the best date night choice, then so be it. If anything, I am sincerely jealous since my partner neither likes take-out or watching anything longer than twenty minutes.

    via GIPHY

Expect lots of cuddling, “wow”s, and depending on your take-out- plenty of gas. Yes, romance is in the air, but it’s best you don’t breathe it in at the moment.

    Marco Polo  (The Adult Version)

Ah, touchy time. It’s scientifically proven that anything that involves a blindfold after twenty-one is sexy time (don’t Google that). Are you ready to turn your childhood game into a sex game? Hey, it’s still a date night, after all.

You or your partner will wear a blindfold, and the other will situate themselves somewhere in the room. You can stick with the traditional “Marco Polo,” or you can dig deeper and get a little dirty. The idea is to get your partner (and yourself) as riled up as possible before…you know

    via GIPHY

Don’t forget champagne, chocolate, whipped cream, chocolate-covered strawberries…your choices are endless. You didn’t read those 50 Shades of Grey books for nothing, right?.

    Sleep Under the Stars

If you own a backyard, then camping out underneath the stars is literally the best date idea ever. It’s not the wilderness; it’s better. You can go number two in your own bathroom. S’mores? Pop them in the oven. Wild animals? There aren’t any. Alcohol? Plenty. When gazing at the stars, you can simply stare and be at peace, or you can show off your smarticles and name the constellations.

    via GIPHY

Regardless, wrapped in the arms of your loved ones at the end of the day is all the comfort you need to end this spontaneous date.

Take a Trip Down Memory Lane

Remember when,” have to be the two most nostalgic words in the English language. They refer back to the struggles, the success, the losses, the wins, the heartbreaks, and the day you fell in love with your significant other. If you have photo albums, now’s the time to dust them off.

    via GIPHY

Watching videos is another great way to reminisce and hold your partner closer. Memories can spark joy or tears, and maybe tears of joy. Sit back, relax, grab a wine bottle, and take a stroll back in time.

    Shoot a YouTube Video

If you’ve never done it before, this is the time. You’re stuck at home all day anyways! You can talk about anything, create a tutorial, something personal for loved ones, show off your baking skills, show off your musical talents, or even teach a course.

    Recreate Your First Date

    Simple, right?

Or is it? Who here remembers how they met their partners, let alone their first date? In all honesty, I don’t. But if you do, you can surprise your partner by recreating the moment you made it official. Try your best to arrange the setting to match that day. To make it more interesting, act out like it’s the first time you’re really meeting!

    Good luck, and stay safe!

  • How to Keep Busy at Home During a Pandemic

How to Keep Busy at Home During a Pandemic

This may be slightly difficult to believe, but there are hundreds of things you can do in quarantine other than watching TikTok all day. With thousands of events around the world being postponed or canceled, people are instructed to stay home whether or not they show the implication of illness. It’s safe to say that self-quarantining can take a toll on mental health, especially on extroverts and workaholics.

By abiding by the rules and staying indoors, you are not only taking care of your physical health but saving others from contracting the illness. You are preventing the spread of a deadly virus.

    via GIPHY

In the eyes of many, you are hailed a hero. A hero stuck at home with absolutely nothing to do. That’s ok because the list of things to do is truly never-ending. Someone recommended messaging all your ex’s to get anything off your chest, but I cannot stress enough what a bad idea that is. I understand people are sort of losing it up there, but let’s try to stay civil, you guys.

Here are seven activities to keep your mind sharp, hands busy, and boredom at bay. Most of these activities require movement because writing in a journal and reading a book can only keep you productive for so long.

    Loading the Serotonin

A moment, if you please, for all my gym rats who are losing gains because they have no access to equipment and all gyms are closed. I make it sound worse than it actually is, but it’s a loss nonetheless.

Starting your day with a quick thirty-minute workout will provide you with a metabolism boost, better performance throughout your day, sense of accomplishment, less stress, and endorphins endorphins endorphins. God knows we need them right now.

    via GIPHY

Finding a suitable workout channel on YouTube is like finding pennies in Ralph’s parking lot- it’s definitely there. I’ve said this several times before, but Fitness Blender is undeniably the one workout channel that has changed my perspective on fitness and has helped me reach sustainable weight loss. Find someone that keeps it fun, different, and worthwhile.

Marie Kondo the SH*T out of Your House

My first reaction to hearing about Marie Kondo went something like this: ….uhh, OK? My response to watching Marie Kondo went more like this: YES! OK!

I can’t believe I ever folded clothes the way I did before her. I have evolved, friends- reached a new level of enlightenment to the world of house organization. What better way to spend your day than to clean out your home?

    via GIPHY

You will not believe the relief and sense of achievement you feel when clearing out your closet. It’s relaxing, keeps you busy, and sparks joy! That simple phrase has changed my outlook on materialism in general. If it doesn’t spark joy, then let it go, be it shirt, pants, jackets, shoes, a husband.

    Let. it. Go.

Play out Your Favorite Scenes From Films

Now, if you’re a cinema lover or a lover of fine taste in general, then you’ll probably reach back in time for some of Hollywood’s more superior work (ahem, La Marseillaise scene Casablanca).

    via GIPHY

While memorizing another language is on this list, you certainly don’t need it to act out your favorite scenes. If you’re living with family, include them in this activity and assign everyone apart. It might involve some yelling, laughter, siblings attacking each other, but hey, at least it’ll give you something to do.

Narrate Your Family’s Actions (Start Some Drama)

“Dad is opening the fridge…he reaches for the milk, but what he doesn’t know is that the carton milk is actually…empty. He looks at me, questionably, and smiles. He throws the carton in the trash and goes to question my mother why we’re out of milk…”

    via GIPHY

See how annoying that can be? My siblings and I used to do it to each other when we were younger, and let’s be honest, we still do sometimes. Does it lead to hands being thrown? Absolutely. Do we continue to do it despite threats to change the Netflix password? Of course. Go ahead, annoy the hell out of your family members because when this pandemic is entirely over, they’ll probably never want to see you again.

    Virtual Tour Redwood National Park

No, it doesn’t have to be Redwood, but it’s a soothing calming experience and worth the time. Search “virtual tours” on YouTube and prepare to be amazed. You can travel the world from the comfort of your couch. I know it’s not as fabulous as the real thing, but it’s a lot cheaper.

    via GIPHY

There are plenty of tour options, which range from one to two hours. The sights are beautiful, and you can discover something new from every video!

    Practice a Second Language

When it comes to language apps, I’m incredibly skeptical. Having too many apps on my phone is a no-no, so every app needs to be worth the download.

    via GIPHY

I found Duolingo through a friend’s recommendation, who swore it helped with their Arabic. Now, I say practice a second language because this is more of a practice session and not something that can teach you a whole language. You would need other external sources to perfect learning any language, but Duolingo is by far the most useful app in exercising another language through repetition. It helps build essential vocabulary and understanding the structure of a language.

Either way, you will learn something new with this app, and it’s worth a couple of hours of your day on your road to mastering a new language.

    Build a Pillow/Blanket Fort + Netflix

Oh, childhood, you’ve flown by, and if it were possible, I’d turn back time and go back to ice cream trucks and trading Pokemon cards.

    via GIPHY

Here’s a video on how to make the coziest blanket fort ever. Why? Well, for one, you literally have nothing to do, and second, it will bring out your inner child at this time of crisis, and your inner child will understand how to handle the situation.

    Duh

    Stay safe, everyone!

  • Need to Postpone a Wedding?

    Need to Postpone a Wedding?

    Here’s How

It’s safe to say so far; this year’s been a bust. The whole world has shut down due to the Coronavirus’s rapid spread. It’s a frightening time for all of us as the majority of us under quarantine sit and wait for a vaccine.

The outcome of this pandemic has done irreversible damage! Significant events from all over the globe have been canceled or postponed. I know it’s tough to find comfort in this fact, but you are not alone in deciding to postpone your wedding day.

It may seem like a small issue to others, but ultimately, it’s an issue worth grieving over. You may have spent weeks, months, or even years planning your big day, and to suddenly have it put on hold is a painful decision.

    via GIPHY

Postponing a wedding is a process that is done thoroughly, so we’ve gathered all the information you need to get it done and begin the time to heal. Again, it’s not an easy decision, and your feelings of frustrations, impatience, and woe are valid and utterly reasonable.

First, contact anyone who’s involved in your wedding planning. This list includes suppliers, wedding vendors, venues, and marriage officiant.

In any other situation, you have to go over your contract with this list, but considering they’ve likely been forced to shut down, all agreements are void. They’ll also not know about when they will be opening again, so postponement may be out of the question at the moment. Taking into account that both sides had not much said in this decision, you’ll get your money-back guarantee. If you have a shortlist of calls to make, then you can probably be done with it on your own. If a big wedding is meant to take place and your list is all over the place, then your partner or wedding planner can help you call and explain the situation at hand.

    via GIPHY

An overseas wedding may be a bit more challenging to deal with due to the time difference and how that country is dealing with the pandemic. Your best option is to shoot them an email- or chat via video call- explaining the reason behind the decision.

They will undoubtedly understand and remedy your concern as their own. Mainly because this pandemic has stirred a “we’re all in this together” vibe, and people seem to be more empathic now more than ever.

Secondly, it’s time to let all your close family and friends know about the decision. It’s difficult letting loved ones know of your choice, so have your partner near you as you make calls to your inner circle. With the postponement, the deal is to call everyone with a new date, but again, the situation we’re in will not allow it. We don’t know when this global crisis will come to an end.

    via GIPHY

Your family’s support and reassurance will be much needed, and you’ll have someone to fall back on when you start feeling like the world’s always out of your favor, because honestly, it will feel that way.

Thirdly is your guest list. You probably know that calling your guests one by one is impractical and requires too much time and effort. You can use the Zola app to send a mass email or text. Their support team is trained to help you through this difficult time. If you have guests that have come from out of state for this event, then it’d be more considerate to call them and assist them in any way possible. Some people will not be as understanding as others, so try not to stress yourself out. The most you can do is help these guests get back home and thank them for coming nonetheless.

Lastly, if you acquired wedding insurance, then this is time to see what it says about a global health crisis.

    via GIPHY

Everyone’s world has been turned upside down, and several plans you may have had for 2020 have evaporated. In order for us to get through this, we need to be ok with that. Your big day won’t be what you planned, but it should still be unique and spent with the love of your life. Heaven knows you’ll need some time to recover from everything that’s been happening.

Take time for self-care, and stay safe!

  • How Retreats Can Change Your Life

How Retreats Can Change Your Life

Yoga, meditation, wellness retreats- whatever you prefer to call it- are escapes that can alter and reshape your life in ways you can’t imagine. Retreats mean to take you away from the hecticness of your life and grant you 1-4 weeks (sometimes months) to reconnect with your body, mind, and spirit. Activities vary depending on where you are headed in life, but the result is the same: they allow you to improve, stimulate your mind, and manifest more in life.

These retreats are often overlooked as not many people believe in a divine self or are confident there is no peace to their bustling lifestyles. What they feel to realize is retreats are the best possible thing you can do for yourself to help you lead a more tranquil and fulfilled life.

Here are just a few ways retreats can help you step out of your comfort zone.

Out With The Old, In With The New

As you begin with your journey, you are allowed to drop everything in your life and slow down. The point of retreats is to restore peace and realign your mind, body, and soul. Anything that has to do with your past, your enigmas, and even your children are placed on pause.

    via GIPHY

Meditation practices mean to guide you to tranquillity, be in the moment, and relieve away any temptations that come to mind. There’s a reason these practices are done day to day for hours on end, as healing is a process, and letting go of burdens and stress takes time. You will form a routine that is centered around helping you create a new way of thinking, and teaching you to forgive and forget anything weighing you down. The goal is to not only be at peace with others but ourselves, as well.

    Like Minded People

The most reassuring fact about retreats is understanding you are not alone in this. Whatever your reason for going, you will undoubtedly find someone with the same predicaments, if not the same story.

Retreats vary, but regular activity is “group sharing” where you will be able to discuss your background with others from your assigned group. It’s not surprising that due to our active lifestyles, we feel relief when we share our trials with others. You will find others who may not only share your pain but will help you gain insight and perspective to aid you on your healing journey.

    via GIPHY

Never hold back when it comes to sharing what’s hurting you at your core. There might be those who have been through the same and can offer you answers that will transform your life.

    No Distractions

Do you ever-and I mean ever- have a moment alone without someone or something chiming in? I can’t take a bathroom break without being interrupted.

Retreats offer you solitude. There will be no phones or books to turn to because this is what will teach you that being alone is nothing to fear. There are several facilities built on large properties, so you will have the chance to stroll around for hours for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

    via GIPHY

There is no final destination; you are merely walking aimlessly-taking wonder to your surroundings. You become more intuitive, observant, and in-tune with nature. Mastering how to breathe (yes, there’s a way) and how to control your breathing is one of the best takeaways from your time here.

    Committed Coaches

Whether you are doing private coaching or group coaching, you will still get the experience of a lifetime. The greatest gift you can give yourself on this retreat is the ability to express yourself more openly, especially with your coach.

Coaches mean to provide you with techniques based on your behavior or mindset. Their goal for the group is to help you shift your perspective and help you realize just how much your thoughts affect your reality. By helping you reach a new level of frequency- of new energy- they are encouraging you to welcome change into your life.

    via GIPHY

While every coach has a different way of teaching, they ultimately share one goal: to see you prosper and change your life for the better.

    Perspective Change

By deciding to go away on a wellness retreat, you are choosing to change your life. You are allowing change to take over-be it in a painful way or not. The time you will spend on this healing journey will give your body a chance to detox, your thoughts to cleanse, and your soul to heal.

    via GIPHY

The energetic shift that will take over will leave you wondering why you had not done this sooner-if not more often. Your way of thinking will change, and you’ll finally realize how much joy you’ve deprived yourself of in the past. You may have forgotten what it’s like to feel this weightless and carefree, and that’s ok

Always come back to what you’ve acquired on this journey. It is something you will need on your path to happiness and greatness.
