Creative Ways to Include Your Kids in Your Wedding Photos

Whether it’s getting married, remarried, or renewing your vows, incorporating your children into your wedding photos is a great way to bond and create everlasting memories. If you are remarrying and your partner has older children, it can be tough to gain their trust and approval. Weddings are celebrations of the relationship you are creating and committing to not only your partner but their family as well.

If this is your first wedding with your children, then you’re one of the lucky ones! They get to see their parents celebrate their love and declare their partnership for life. They get to be part of something bigger than them, and they’re undoubtedly flooded with excitement.

Here are some ways to include the little rascals in your pictures, and let them be part of the best day of your life.

    Show Some Love

Mommy’s little girl always had a better ring to it for me. Daughters are an absolute blessing, and it’s on days like these that they repeatedly prove the love they carry for you. Other than the dresses, flowers, and pretty shoes, daughters love watching you prepare for your big day. Capture the moment with a group hug and endless kisses.

    Lapis de Noiva

    Mommy and Daddy and Me

I was tempted not to say this, but this can also apply to pets. Hey, some people consider their pets their kids, and that’s plausible. If you are the parent to an only child, photos like the ones below will look incredible in a frame or hung on a wall for the world to see. It’s your new family, your new beginning, and what better way to say we’re in this together than a family photo on a wedding day?

    Wedding Forward

    Here Comes the…Stroller?

Yes, your ring bearer can also be rolled in by your flower girl. Or by your other kids. That way, everyone can be in the photo and play a role in the ceremony. Decorative carts like the one below are lovely ideas for your crawlers. You can hang a sign on the back or the side, with a simple quote or name of the bride and groom. Really, anything goes.

    Inside Weddings

    A Kiss for Both

By the end of your vows, you may kiss the bride, but how about saving a peck or two for the little joys in your life?

Just looking at these photos is making me emotional because what goes on behind the scenes is much more meaningful. Some parents are genuinely superheroes because their children’s happiness goes above all else. If you know anyone that’s remarried, you’ll know that their children’s approval is crucial to them moving forward with the decision. Your new partner’s love for your children can only mean one thing:  the kids do come first.

And They Lived Happily Ever After

A witness to an unforgettable moment.

No matter how much time will pass, your children will always remember this moment as their own as well. What more could you possibly want from such an exceptional day? Children holding up signs add that unique element to the photo. They can be stood to the side, in the middle, or even sitting on a parent’s shoulder. Some ideas for signs are “And They Lived Happily Ever After,” “It’s Our Wedding Day!” and “Unlimited Drinks for the Bride and Groom!”.

Hold the sign up high and smile big!

    Don’t Cry, Don’t Cry Don’t Cry

There a quote by Sally Mann, “Photographs open doors into the past, but they also allow a look into the future.”

I feel like this picture captures the raw reality of weddings. I think of weddings as portals for both the couple and their kids (if they have any). It’s a day to leave the past behind and start building a future together with your family. Father-daughter dances and mother-son dances (or vice versa) can be implemented into your wedding planner as an intimate way to connect with the children. If it takes an emotional turn, don’t be too surprised, as they always end up with someone crying.

When love overflows, a few tears are bound to spill.

  • COVID-19 Daily Schedule for Children

    COVID-19 Daily Schedule for Children

It’s safe to say none of us are having the year we were anticipating. Pandemic and quarantine are two words I never thought I’d hear in my lifetime, but here we are. With the Coronavirus hastily spreading over several regions, many states are calling for their residents to stay indoors, desensitize constantly, and limit physical contact. Establishments-including schools- have been ordered to close to prevent crowds and the spread of the virus.

While we don’t know how long this quarantine will last, one thing’s for sure- panicking isn’t going to solve anything. If anything, it will lead to a weaker immune system, which will make you more prone to bacteria and illness.

    via GIPHY

Parents, these are trying times. Schools have closed their doors, which means all children are staying at home until further notice.

Yikes. Personally, this caused me to panic more than the virus itself.

    Kidding

But I understand you’re scrambling to do anything to keep their mind sharp and their bodies active, so we’ve got the perfect schedule to keep you sane and keep them occupied. The following information is thanks to the SDUHSD Coronavirus Community Communication.

    Before 9 AM- Wake Up

You know how mornings go. I find that waking up before the kids to get some work (including chores) is the perfect way to start the day. I reply to any emails, catch up on my reading, and get a load of laundry going. Upon awakening, the kids should be able to make their beds, wash up, and get dressed. As they tidy up, use the time to get breakfast going. A well-sought and nutritious breakfast are what everyone needs to prepare for the day ahead.

    9-10 AM- Morning Walk

Is this anyone else’s favorite part of the day? I love getting in a morning walk at my local park, but let’s talk about the kids. If you have more than three kids, it may be difficult being outdoors and keeping an eye on them, especially in times like these. If you have a large back/front yard, you can use this hour to keep your kids active.

    via GIPHY

Fluency and Fitness was a gold find for me, but you can also check out this list to get those kids moving.

    10-11 AM- Academic Time

Many schools will assign their students with at-home work to keep them up to date. If yours hasn’t, then keep this time to keep them updated. Keep electronics off the table at this time, because they will have a chance later to play. Puzzles (crossword, math, word, trivia) are excellent tools to keep one’s mind sharp. They can also use the time to read a book, write, or finish their schoolwork.

    11-12 PM- Creative Time

Busy Toddler has been a life-saver for me when it comes to getting creative and learning at the same time. Susie is an early childhood education advocate, and her blog is dedicated to parents and their toddlers. Her activities are all hands-on, creative, and will keep those kids busy, hence the name.

    via GIPHY

Her website is the holy grail of imaginative play; the choices are endless and accommodates well to what parents have on hand. If your children enjoy something more straightforward, such as coloring books or dancing to their favorite songs, then you’re one of the lucky ones.

    12 PM- Lunch

As the parent of one of the most hands-on and curious human beings in the world, this is my least favorite part of the day. I’ve given up actual cooking when the kids are home and stuck with homemade subway sandwiches. I hold a specific routine in my house, and it’s rare we change it up unless one of the kids requests something particular and the others chime in. I’ve seen mothers make lunches for their kids like it’s a sacred art, and it makes me wonder: does making subway sandwiches with a side of chips five days out of the week make me a good mother?

    via GIPHY

The answer is yes because I am tired, and as long as they’re not starving, I see no wrong.

     12:30 PM- Chore-Time

Whenever I asked my mother why she had six children, her answer was always, “who’s going to clean the house when I’m old and fat?”. She was not wrong. Children are great helpers when they want to be. Staying clean is essential now more than ever, so let’s reach for the spray bottles, towels, and wipe everything down. You’d be surprised at how involved kids become when helping around the house. Assign each one a room and ask them to wipe down the doorknobs, counters, tabletops, and anything else with a surface.

    1:00-2:30 PM- Quiet Time

Finally, the second-best part of the day! If you have toddlers that require naps, then this is your chance. If kids are older, then provide them with a journal to reflect on their day, write about their feelings, or even draw a picture. You can never go wrong with a book, so make sure your home library is well-stock with books for every child you have.

    2:30-4:00 PM- Academic Time

The moment your kids have been waiting for all day. Electronics are ok now, and they can catch up with friends, social media, or play their video games if you approve it. As this is more academic time, try your best to keep it educational by encouraging your children to use apps or watch shows that teach them and keep them wondering.

    via GIPHY

It’s ok if they choose something else, but remind them their time is limited and to use it wisely.

    4:00-5:00 PM- Afternoon Fresh Air

By now, you and your children are probably yearning for the outdoors. If you have a dog, then take them for an afternoon walk. It’s ok to take your kids along, but avoid crowded places and keep the sanitizer on hand. You can go for a bike ride, a quick stroll, or practice yoga outside. It’s important to keep nature in your daily schedule, so it doesn’t feel like you’re trapped in one place for too long. The last thing we need is a cranky mom or dad and even crankier kids.

    5:00-6:00 PM- Dinner Time

    We’re almost there!

    via GIPHY

Have your children help with simple tasks such as setting up the table and deciding what to have for dinner. For simple dinner recipes for the whole family, click here

    6:00-8:00 PM- Free TV Time

Have your kids settle down with some TV time. They can watch a film of their choosing, as long as the parent approves it. If you usually have bathtime for your children at this time, then have them wash up, prepare for bed, then use up what free time they have left.

    8:00-9:00 PM- Bedtime

Here’s to an end of a very long and inevitably tiring day. If you have toddlers, then it’s time to hit the hay, and time for you to spend some time on self-care.

    via GIPHY

Older kids are much more stubborn and may stay up for another hour or so. If that’s the case, then it’s okay. Give them a free hour to do what they like, and lights out when the hour is up.

We don’t know how long this quarantine will last, but that doesn’t mean we have to suffer through it. We all know how tough it is to be out of work and in each other’s faces all day. Still, try to make the best out of every day. For your safety and others, please avoid crowds and limit physical contact. Stay safe, be selfless in your choices, and stay healthy!

  • Rehearsal Dinner Etiquette:

    Rehearsal Dinner Etiquette:

    It’s a Real Thing

I know what you’re thinking: people still make rehearsal dinners? Why not just city hall and be done with the whole thing in an hour or less? Aside from the wedding day itself, a rehearsal dinner is a perfect way for the couple’s family to get acquainted. Traditionally, these events are held the evening before the wedding, but the timing is not set in stone. Luckily, you can plan yours with whatever fits your schedule. If it’s the week before the wedding, then so be it.

Related Article: What to Wear as a Wedding Guest

The run-through for a rehearsal is comparatively simple, and while it comes with its set of rules and etiquette, it ultimately comes down to preference. You have the burning questions, and we have the answers.

    Who’s Paying for the Shindig?

We live in trying conditions, but proper rehearsal dinner etiquette requires the groom’s side of the family to pay for the entire event, including the rehearsal dinner

    via GIPHY

But like I said, these are trying times, and everyone’s surely developing their own rules of tradition. Think of this event like other events you’ve hosted in the past. You and your partner can go over finances, plans, and budgets to provide both families with a beautiful evening without breaking the bank. If you’re the bride and come from a dead-set traditional family, then trust drama will ensue if you plan to aid your partner financially. The best thing to do is to sit and talk about it.

Do Invitations Need to be Sent Out?

Yes, but good news, it doesn’t have to be anything formal or over the top. Wedding invitations, yes, but rehearsal dinner? The letters can be created online, corresponding with the theme of your event. You can send it via email, text, or even through a phone call. Common sense says that with an event, invitations are to be sent out 4-6 weeks before the event. This is not a last-minute thing, and you need to be exact with who you invite because each person plays an essential role on this day and the next.

    via GIPHY

Now, remember this is the day before the wedding; the calm before the storm. In the given time and place, you will be surrounded by loved ones and showered with affection without the madness of the big day. This is an intimate gathering of honoring you and your future spouse. Make sure to invite all the right people and those who are closest to your hearts.

    With That Said, Who’s Invited?

Preference. There are the obvious, of course, such as immediate family, reader/usher, and your officiant. This is a rehearsal, after all. If the parents of the couple are still alive, then they should be first on the list, then come to the siblings and grandparents.  I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but you are not marrying one person; you’re merging two families.

    via GIPHY

When it comes to close extended family, I had no reason to invite aunts, uncles, or cousins. That was a preference, considering I wasn’t close to any of them, so they served no purpose. Some couples do prefer to invite, and that’s perfectly fine. The bridal party is a tricky decision to make, as most usually have a plus one tagged along. Etiquette requires them to bring them along to the rehearsal as well as the wedding, and others argue that the “plus one” should only apply to the wedding day. In the end, you decide, but keep in mind, it’s a rehearsal dinner, not a rave.

    Where to Set Up?

Finally, where should your rehearsal dinner be held? Several elements need to analyzed here.

Are you planning a destination wedding? Is there family coming from out of town? Will transportation be provided? How formal are we talking?  Most importantly, how is the weather?

This is the day before the day, so anyone that took a plane to get there is probably already there. Proximity is vital here, so it’s crucial to have your ceremony less than an hour away from your guests. Nobody- and I am speaking from horrid experience- wants to drive to a celebration for over an hour, and arrive flustered and starving.

    via GIPHY

Do you think I had something pretty to say about the couple? No, I was starving. Not only is it proper etiquette to keep the event close, but it’s also being a decent human being.

The formality of your party is entirely up to you. You can stick to the theme of your wedding and get fancy, reserve a room at a five-star restaurant, or even set up near a beach if the weather permits. For me, that’s fancy and way too formal for my crazy family to adhere.

I had a BBQ. Oh, you dare judge me? Trust me; there is no right or wrong here.

I stuck to a budget. I decided that not every event before the wedding needed mindless, unnecessary spending. So I did what I knew would make both our families happy. It was a sunny day filled with dancing, singing, lots of eating, and rehearsing (duh). So you see, what makes you happy is what’ll make your family happy, because this whole weekend is dedicated to you and your part

    Happy rehearsing!

  • What to Consider Before Tying the Knot

What to Consider Before Tying the Knot

Before one does anything life-changing, they usually think of everything it will affect in their future. For example, if you’re moving to another state, you will undoubtedly research the area you’re moving to, the crime rates, school district, transportation, weather, and so much more. If you’re familiar with the “fight or flight” response, then you know well that as humans, we’ve evolved to create safe spaces and develop connections with others, prioritizing our wellbeing.

    via GIPHY

According to the CDC, in the U.S alone, there is one divorce approximately every 36 seconds. That’s 2,400 divorces per day! The percentage of divorces since the 1980s hasn’t budged much in the last four decades, and the reasons are endless, but that’s not our story for today. If you’re lucky enough to find a partner to spend life’s precious moments with, that’s wonderful! Here’s what you might have to consider before deciding to put a ring on it and remaining healthy throughout the marriage.

    Who They Are

How well do you know your soulmate? How long have you two been together? Are you familiar with their routines? Their likes and dislikes? How about this: do you know their middle name or even their favorite color?

Yes, these questions sound a bit outrageous, but if you find yourself not knowing the answer to even one of these questions, then few reconsiderations are in order. No, that doesn’t mean you have to reconsider everything you know, but knowing your partner is a vital part of every marriage.

    via GIPHY

A study was conducted where 47 married couples completed an attitude familiarity questionnaire to see how well they knew their partners. It concluded that attitude familiarity with your spouse “also related to lower overall ambulatory systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure.” Truly knowing your partner is a vital link in a sustainable relationship.

    Addictions Cause Friction

It’s no secret that addictions can not only ruin lives but take them, as well. If you’re entering a marriage with a partner who has a worrisome habit, let me stop you right there.

A person’s addictions (and that person can be you) can have irreversible damage on a marriage. It’s been said a million times before, and it’s a widely known fact: an addict’s needs and obsession with their drug of choice will always override the needs of their partner, children, career, and apparent necessities.

    via GIPHY

Keep in mind that addicts are mentally ill people who will do whatever it takes to get what they want. This includes lying to cover up tracks, quitting their job, infidelity, and landing a family in massive debt. Because of their unreliability, it’s common to see the other spouse become the primary caretaker. If you or your partner is battling with addiction, get help, and avoid wedding bells for the time being

    Role-Play (Not That One)

When you think of your partner’s role after marriage, what do you envision? Do you see them staying at home and taking care of the kids while you’re working a 9-5 job? Or do you see yourself working from home in your office, while your partner takes care of everything else? Who’s the chef? Are women solely responsible for cleaning up after you and sorting out your laundry, or have we broken down those traditional sexist barriers already?

    via GIPHY

What you assume may not be what you bargained for. Master life coach and counselor, David Essel, says, “these assumptions can kill a relationship.” Premarital counseling is imperative for particular couples, but not enough choose to see a professional. Ask your partner what your role should be in a marriage. Their answer may or may not scare you.

    Let’s Talk Careers

Who’s the breadwinner of the family?

According to the CPS, “among married-couple families, both the husband and wife were employed in 48.0 percent of families”. Even a mediocre lifestyle has a big price stamp on it at the end of the month, and bills must be paid.

More families are choosing to work to bring in a more substantial sum of income at the end of the month. Traditionally, it’s always been the man’s job to… well, have a job. With more women entering the work field, tradition is getting its ass kicked. Not that I’m complaining, of course.

    via GIPHY

If your job requires long hours, several meetings, traveling, late nights, or even early mornings, you might want to check in with your partner. Before marriage, it’s something that one rarely thinks about, but after marriage is a whole different story.

    Unresolved Issues

All couples have their ups and downs, their rights and wrongs, and their own way of forgiveness. Think: is there something that has occurred in your relationship that you’ve decided to forget and not forgive?

    via GIPHY

Be very cautious as these events can lead to anger and miscommunication even after marriage. I know you don’t need a professional to inform you that communication is a crucial part of any marriage, and a clean slate is required for a new beginning. Hiding how you feel towards certain events can lead to suppression of anger/depressions, which will-believe me- end a marriage. Find time to sit with your partner and bring up any unresolved issues.

Talk about them, cry about them, and together, start anew.

  • The #1 Romantic Place of 2019

The #1 Romantic Place of 2019

Why It Should Be Your Next Getaway

If you and your partner are planning a getaway, it can be tough to pick a place despite all the fantastic recommendations from friends, family, and my personal favorite-the internet. Of course, you should always circle your planning around your getaway’s best travel time of year, because hello, no one wants a vacation where you’re cooped up all day because there’s a storm raging outside.

    via GIPHY

The options are infinite, and it can cause some confusion and frustration agreeing on one specific location.

So we did it for you. The number one romantic place in the world comes as no shock as it is what the media consistently portrays as La Ville d’amour. With the advice of thousands of weary but satisfied travelers (and I’m guessing lots of voting), here’s why Paris, France is the number one romantic place in the world and should be your next romantic rendezvous.

    First, We Feast

Where can you find great food, delicious bottles of wine, with a romantic, intimate setting? Pretty much anywhere in Paris.

If you’ve ever watched the Luc Besson film La Femme Nikita, then you might be familiar with the astonishing Le Train Bleu restaurant. If you look up, you will be mesmerized by painted scenery ceilings, large sparkling chandeliers, beautifully structured gilded gold, and undoubtedly a sense of close intimacy. If that in itself doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a James Bond film, then take a peek at their menu.

    via GIPHY

You know it’s incredibly fancy (at least for me) when there’s a roasted leg of lamb on the menu and words you can’t pronounce or ever heard of before. It’s the perfect place to pop the question to a partner or take a trip down memory lane. If it’s a little too extravagant, and cozy-romantic is what you’re aiming for, then 20 Eiffel is more of a right pick. Other than it’s highly rated menu and five-star reviews, the tourist-attracting Eiffel Tower is also in perfect view.

    Art Majors Paradise

Picasso, Monet, Delacroix, Rodin, da Vinci, and Dali.

What do all these major historical artists have in common?

Bingo, they all hail from France, so it’s no wonder it’s home to all their masterpieces. It’s not just the extensive amount of artwork that’s bound to capture your attention, but the museums that resemble mansions that were once homes to art collectors and lovers.

    via GIPHY

Musée Jacquemart-André is a private home built by Édouard André and Nélie Jacquemart to display their love of the arts. You and your partner can get a glimpse of how wealthy 19th-century Parisians lived, and it’s difficult not to fall in love with the Italian sculptures and eclectic collection of paintings. You can visit the charming cafe that overlooks the courtyard, head to the tea room for a perfect brunch, and lastly-a lavish garden to stroll through hand in hand. If you’re looking for romantic, classy, elegant, and breathtaking, then this hidden gem is a must-see before heading back home. For more romantic museums, click here.

    Where to Stay

The most important part of your planning- and what will set the mood of your whole trip from start to finish- is picking a place to stay. Needless to stay, hotels in Paris are expensive. If you’re looking for something with a view-and I mean views (Seine, Eiffel, Notre Dame, the Grand Palais), then look no further than Shangri-La Hotel Paris

    via GIPHY

Yes, it will cost you a pretty penny, but this historic 1896 limestone mansion is a must see-if not stay. Known for its “Pierre-Yves Rochon–designed spaces” and three in-house restaurants, this hotel is a place to explore, indeed. The hotel is set in a very chic residential area, so expect many places to be within walking distance, including Champs-Elysées. If you’re on a budget, then renting out an Airbnb is definitely a better option, and hotels such as these still hold a charming tone and very affordable pricing.

    Other Endeavors

Paris is practically overflowing with romantic things to do, so food and museums are just a couple of adventures scratched off the list. The scenery in Paris is jaw-dropping, and the best way to see it all is (that’s right, folks) from the top of the Eiffel Tower. I always thought that was just something you see in movies, but it’s an actual thing!

    via GIPHY

It’s certainly possible and a memory that’s bound to stay with you both till the end of time. If you’re terrified of heights like me, then a cruise down the River Seine is your next best option. You can surprise your loved one with a private cruise, a bottle of champagne, and a breathtaking sunset. You can lay back, relax, and simply enjoy each other’s company. Whether it’s a picnic at the park, a stroll down the street, indulging in legendary french Parisian pastries, or admiring the scenery of Tuileries Garden, the City of Light is the one place to move up your travel bucket list.

  • The 8 Best Habits of Successful People

The 8 Best Habits of Successful People

The ways to be successful are unlimited. With that said, how does each individual describe success? Maybe it’s not one goal, but several along the way to the ultimate goal. For example, if you’ve decided to stop smoking cigarettes, you’d count one week as a massive success. Finishing a book within two weeks is a breakthrough. Defining triumph has a different meaning for everyone.

There has to be some habit of similarities between all successful people, and you are absolutely right. Studies have shown that a large percentage of highly successful people have these following habits in common. Take a look and make a change.

    The 5 AM Gang

By now, you’ve probably heard that many high achieving CEOs out there are notoriously known for their early morning habits. How is choosing to be awake a few hours before your actual workday in any way productive?

    via GIPHY

Other than getting a head start on your day, willpower is proven to be most reliable in the morning and ease any decision making. Thomas Corley, author of Rich Habits: The Daily Success Habits of Wealthy Individuals, conducted a five-year study of over 150 self-made millionaires and found that nearly 50% of them wake up at least three hours before their workday. Whether it’s to catch up on emails, a side hustle, a novel, exercise, or even meditation, a few hours to yourself will give you a sense of control over yourself and events of your day.

Failures Made Them Who They Are

You might have heard the famous Thomas Edison phrase, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Before their massive success, many widely known entrepreneurs have failed numerous times. Some names you may be familiar with are J.K Rowling, Walt Disney, and even Bill Gates.

    via GIPHY

The path to success is never a straight line, and by the time you’ve reached your utmost potential, you’ll realize the downs outnumbered the ups on this self-finding journey.

    Enough Sleep is Vital

Sleep has always been one of the most researched topics of our time. How many hours count as enough? Is there such a thing as too much sleep? If you’re a mother, I highly doubt it. Now, this isn’t to say that people who don’t get a solid 8-9 hours of sleep are not successful.

    via GIPHY

Before Microsoft took off, Bill Gates admitted to pulling all-nighters and even staying up “two nights in a row.” In his book Why We Sleep, Matthew Walker explains how “neglecting sleep undercuts your creativity, problem-solving, decision-making, learning, memory, heart health, brain health, mental health, emotional well-being, immune system, and even your life span (GatesNotes).”

    Exercise is a Priority

According to Entrepreneur, “Exercise is one thing most successful people do every day”. Other than its proven effect on the human mind to release endorphins and make us happier, exercise can become a life-changing aspect when added to your daily routine.

    via GIPHY

For that one hour a day, you can get in tune with your body, relieve stress, work harder, challenge yourself, build self-esteem, and most importantly, maintain a healthy mind and body.

    They Read, and Read…and Read

I’m going to be honest with you. After college, I didn’t even think of reading another book. It just seemed like enough, you know? Well, sorry to tell you this, but the books that helped you graduate college are very different from the ones that will help you succeed in life—several people credit reading as a factor to their success.

    via GIPHY

In a 2015 post, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg started a reading challenge and wrote, “My challenge for 2015 is to read a new book every other week… I’m excited for my reading challenge. I’ve found reading books very intellectually fulfilling. Books allow you to fully explore a topic and immerse yourself in a deeper way than most media today.” Keep in mind, highly successful people are picky about what they read, and I can tell you now, 50 Shades of Grey doesn’t make the list. For what does, click here

    Multiple Incomes

Side hustles are a thing, even for already successful people. Say you’re working a 9-5 job. You know you’re making just enough money to pay bills, buy groceries, spoil yourself, etc. But ask yourself this: Is it enough to keep working like this and waste away until retirement? It’s not.

    via GIPHY

These ten genius entrepreneurs used their assets and success to build empires and rise from the ground up. If you can take one piece of advice from this post, it’s never to settle for one thing, because neither did the successful people we look up to today.

    They Pick Their Friends Wisely

The people you want around you when you’ve reached the ultimate goal are the same ones you that are going to be cheering you on along the way. It seems a bit redundant to say, but always recognize who’s there for you at your lowest and which ones are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

The human mind is so easily manipulated, and if we continually hear that we’re no good, then we’re bound to believe it. Stay positive and keep only positive people around.

    Time is Money

It’s no little secret that making money takes time. Tons of it, actually. Despite what you may hear, there is no such thing as an “overnight success.” Even though we are fully aware that time is one of the most valuable resources out there, we tend to take it for granted.

    via GIPHY

The more productive you are in time well spent, the better your chances are of making plenty of money. By the end of 2020, someone is sure to say, “wow, I can’t believe it’s almost 2021”, so think: what value did you bring with the time that was presented to you? Arrange your time wisely and leave no space for regrets—only success.

  • Movies to Keep an Eye Out for in 2020

Movies to Keep an Eye Out for in 2020

Good God, it seemed like 2020 was NEVER coming, and if you’ve heard of all the movies that are releasing this year, then you know we’ve waited far too long! People, you know how long I’ve been waiting for Disney to make a Mulan live-action film? I’ve survived this long solely for that reason. Other than Mulan, Marvel’s Phase Four will kick off, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back with Bad Boys, Matthew McConaughey in The Gentleman, and Sophia Lillis in Gretel & Hansel. I’m a sucker for fairytale turned horror films. It’s a much anticipated year for the entertainment industry and cinema lovers everywhere, and I’ve gathered the perfect list of movies, so you don’t miss out on anything.

Get ready to mark your calendars, folks; these movies are a must-see.

    Mulan

Yes, I would put a Disney first. My generation was raised on Disney, and to see an Asian female character take the spotlight was all it took to convince me of the strength all women withhold but forced to keep down because…well, society. Yes, I interpreted that from a child’s movie. Directed by Niki Caro, this fantasy-war film stars Liu Yifei and is set to release March 27, 2020. If you’re not familiar with the epic tale, Mulan is the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, and when the Huns invade China, she takes his place in battle disguised as a man. Her determination and quick wit are what keep her going on this journey to embrace her true potential and make a nation proud.

    No Time To Die

The 25th installment of the James Bond franchise is titled No Time To Die and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective). Daniel Craig is back for the role and informed Entertainment Weekly it would be his last time playing the iconic character. Alongside him for the first time ever is a female 007 agent, played by Lashana Lynch and a new villain played by Academy Award winner Rami Malek. After leaving active service for some time, Bond gets approached by Felix Leiter, a friend, and CIA officer. He enlists him to search for a missing scientist. When it becomes apparent that the scientist was abducted, Bond sets a plan to find him regardless of the dangers the mission holds.

    Jungle Cruise

Get ready to see Dwayne Johnson everywhere this year, because his name pops up in several movies releasing soon. Along with some impressive actors and actresses, the film is based on the Disneyland theme park ride. If you’ve never been on the ride, it’s a small riverboat that steers through a jungle filled with wild animals and reptiles. The movie is similar, but obviously with a plot and supernatural element. The captain of the riverboat, Frank (Johnson), accompanies a scientist (Emily Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) on a mission to find the Tree of Life, which is believed to possess healing powers. All while competing against a German expedition and surviving the jungle’s wilderness.

    The Gentleman

Alright, alright, alright! You’re either a huge fan of Guy Ritchie’s work or…you can’t stand it. Matthew McConaughey stars as Mickey Pearson, who runs a successful marijuana empire in London. When he decides to cash out his business, people’s true intentions come to light as they scheme and use blackmail to undermine him. It’s Ritchie, so expect car chases, gunfights, gangs, and a thirst for blood. Expect to see some legendary actors, including Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant.

    Promising Young Women

It’s rare to receive a score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, but this provocative thriller did just that. Write-director Emerald Fennell has presented women everywhere with the story of Cassie Thomas (Carey Mulligan), a med school dropout. Her dreams of becoming a doctor were derailed when a tragic event derailed her future. An event that somehow shaped the rest of her life. She lives with her parents and works at a coffee shop, which seems like the typical aftermath of any dropout, but Cassie has a secret, a double life she leads at night.

Film critics are going crazy for the cruel over the top truth. Teen Vogue states, “A stellar performance from Mulligan paired with an ambitious vision from Fennell comes together to create a story that’s a bold takedown of rape culture and those that defend it.” Believe me, when I say, you don’t want to miss out on this one.

    Bad Boys For Life

Instagram was taken by storm when Will Smith announced he’d be playing Genie in Aladdin, but when we found out we’d be getting another Bad Boys? People lost their minds. While Micheal Bay did not direct the third film, it’s still packed with action, adventure, and of course, comedy. I mean, it’s Smith and Lawrence. In the sequel, the wife and son of a Mexican drug lord are set out to kill anyone involved in his downfall. One of those people is Miami Detective Mike Lowrey (Smith). He teams up with partner Burnett (Lawrence) to bring the culprits to justice. Will everything go as planned, or will the two end up screwing up with their new tactical squad?

    Gretel and Hansel

Trails of bread crumbs, candy houses, wicked witches, and a dark forest. This is not the first Gretel and Hansel, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Sophia Lillis is a fantastic actress who made her breakthrough in the horror film It and It 2. She has starred in a few other movies afterward, including this one. After their mother slowly loses her sanity, Gretel and Hansel pave their way into the dark forest, hoping to fend for themselves.

Practically starving, they come across a table of stranded food outside what looks like an abandoned home. After the owner invites them in, they soon start to suspect that her hospitality is bound to come with a cost.

    Last Minute Valentine’s Day Gifts/Ideas

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you might start feeling the pressure of finding the perfect gift for that ideal person-be it your partner, friend, child, or even pet. From my experience, it always felt like last-minute ideas carried more thought than overthinking your gift-giving and hoping for the best. While the traditional flowers and chocolate are the go-to for this particular day, there are so many options and get this; not everything has to be red and pink, as tempting as that is.

So without further ado, here are a few affordable, hearty, last-minute ideas and gifts to surprise that special someone.

    Name Engraved Necklace

You can find engraved necklaces at any jewel retailer in your area. Or you can find it online by just doing a quick google search. While the target audience is mostly women, I genuinely believe engraved necklaces are for everyone. The options are endless, and you can buy a set for you and your partner. ONecklace has some of the lowest prices and several options to choose from, so get a pair while they’re still on sale!

Idea: The heart and key necklaces are always a grand idea. You give one to your special someone, and one for you, so that way, you’ll have something to remind you of them.

    Bath Bomb Gift Set

The best thing about Valentine’s Day is it’s not just the chocolates that are on sale. Bath and body care products are fantastic gift ideas! Would I choose them over flowers and chocolate? Uhm, definitely. The sets are arranged beautifully, and everything is scented like a Midnight Summer’s Dream. Bath and Body Works ends to have incredible deals year-round, but it’s always extra special on Valentine’s Day. Lush also has some beautiful sets, as well.

Idea: Draw a bath for your partner, grab a bottle of wine, throw in a unicorn bath bomb, and enjoy a bath together… with John Legend playing in the background, of course.

    Limited Edition/Exclusive Wine

If you’re not aware of how romantic limited edition wine can be, well…you know now. Wine is an event planner on its own; it shifts all events into place. Of course, there’s always the option of buying from your local supermarket. Just because it’s a special day does not mean you need to empty your wallet on a particular item. For some great options, click here.

Idea: Set up a room in the house to surprise your partner. Spread rose petals, set up candles, and prepare two wine glasses just for the two of you. The wine will take care of the rest.

    Fill-In-The-Blank Journal

The What I Love About Us journal is one of those presents that make you feel like a kid again. It’s one of those things that you’d love to fill out with your partner first thing in the morning or right before you go to bed. It’s something so simple but requires you to think intently about what it is you love about your relationship.

Idea: Every other day, one of you pick a phrase to fill out, then discuss it with your significant other.

    Book Set

What’s a gift that you can open over and over again? You guessed it, folks, book! Books are practical, useful gifts. They increase in value as years go by, and it doesn’t require much thought, assemble, or batteries for that matter! If you’re loved one is a literary fanatic, then the first edition of their favorite book is a thoughtful present.

Idea: Commit one night a week to read a few chapters of your favorite book together! The goal is to read a book every two weeks.

    Sport Attire

Give the gift of fitness. I mean, what’s more attractive than getting fit together? The fitness industry is forever growing, so apparel is just one of many choices. You can also choose a fitness watch, new sneakers, or new gym equipment. Several sports retailers hold limited sales on holidays like this, so be quick to catch some deals before everything’s gone!

Idea: Buy matching sportswear and dedicate three days to the gym together. Couples who workout together, stay together!

    Lingerie

After all, it is still Valentine’s Day. Lingerie has a rep for being expensive, but thanks to the internet and thousands of lingerie brands, that’s not the case anymore. Rihanna’s recent launch of her lingerie line is epic. It’s insanely affordable, high quality, and offers sizes up to 3X! That’s a huge deal for some people who have a difficult time find the perfect fit. For an unforgettable night, look into laces and strings. And diamond rings. But that’s a topic for another day.

Idea: Do I really have to tell you?

    Polaroid Camera

Memories can last a lifetime. What happened to good old Kodak cameras and polaroid shots? With smartphones able to provide us with everything with just the touch of our finger, old fashioned has become…old. Most Polaroid cameras nowadays come with bundles, stickers, and accessories. It truly is a perfect gift for both children and adults and is sure to capture every special moment!

Idea: Take photos of your adventures together, and create a scrapbook of all your cherished memories.

  • Fun Valentines Day Activities for Kids

Fun Valentines Day Activities for Kids

Valentine’s Day has to be one of the most satisfying days of the year to get crazy creative. As adults, we don’t usually have the time to sit at a table and create anything by hand, unfortunately. But with children, well…they have all the time in the world. When I volunteered part-time at a daycare center for children in high school, Valentine’s Day was the hype. Children would arrive wearing red or pink, holding little bags of heart candies for their friends, and so excited to get started with the crafts we had planned for them.

If you’re planning activities for your class or your kids at home, I have one piece of advice for you: don’t hesitate to buy ALL the glitter. If you choose to, please do your part by purchasing only biodegradable glitter. Children tend to use it in surplus when it comes to this particular day. Without any further ado, here are our favorite activities for children on this artful and candy-filled holiday.

    Sponge Heart Painting

Sensory activities are great for children of all ages. They keep them occupied and bring out their imaginative side. All you need for this activity is a sponge cut into a heart (or any shape you want), white construction paper, and red/pink paint. Glitter is optional, of course, but highly recommended because come on, it’s Valentine’s Day. You dip the sponge into the paint and stamp it on white construction paper. By including different size hearts (sponges), your child will have more options to play with and get creative. The result is a beautiful masterpiece by none other than…well, your masterpiece. When it dries, have them write out to whom they’d like to give their painting!

    Handprint Heart Tree Craft

The reason I love this 3D craft is that it can be used for any special day. It’s uncomplicated, requires supplies you probably have at home, and counts as quality time for you and your child. You start by cutting strips from pink construction paper (6x.5) and hold the ends together with a staple, like a heart. You will need to make 15-50 heart “leaves” for your tree. On a brown sheet of cardstock paper, trace your kid’s hand, cut it out, and glue it on a piece of blue cardstock paper. This will be your tree.  Place a generous amount of white glue on a paper plate, but before gluing your hearts on the tree, arrange them to get an idea of where they will go. Dip the bottom of each heart in glue and stick them on your tree! Frame it or present it to a friend.

    Valentine’s Sensory Painting

If you think your children will be the only ones to enjoy this activity, you are mistaken. It combines sensory play, process art, and is very therapeutic. This activity uses shaving cream and paints BUT if your child tends to put everything in their mouth, consider whipped cream and food coloring instead. It’s edible, and you won’t have to worry about them becoming curious and eating it. Fill any baking tray you have with whatever cream you’re using and squirt paint or several drops of red/pink food coloring over the cream. Edible glitter is also an option here. Lastly, with a pointer or stick, have your child swirl through the cream and watch the colors mix differently!

    Exchange Coloring Pages

Tell me these coloring pages are not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. The characters are so lovable! If you want something super simplistic, yet will keep your kid’s head down and intrigued, then coloring pages are the best option. All you’ll need are coloring pages and coloring pencils. Boom, that’s it. The best part is you can print as many copies as you want, whether it’s in a classroom or the home. With so many different preferences, it’s a great calming activity for both young and older kids. When they complete a page, have them write a love note on the back, place it in an envelope, and exchange it with someone else!

    Valentine’s Marshmallow Pop

Finally, something to eat, right? All that crafting gets exhausting eventually. Don’t worry; this is possibly the easiest dessert you can ever make with a child. All you’ll need is jumbo marshmallows, white chocolate, red/pink confetti sprinkles, and wood pop sticks. It’s pretty straightforward from there. You melt the chocolate according to instructions and assist your child in sticking the marshmallows onto the pop sticks. Dip half the marshmallow into the chocolate and let it move down the sides a bit, so it doesn’t melt downwards. Cover with sprinkles and place the sticks upright into a glass until the chocolate sets. Eat right away or refrigerate for later!

    Valentine’s Day Heart Toss

Time to bring out your competitive side, kid! Well, not too competitive-crying isn’t what the result should be. This game can be played with two or more players, and its simplicity makes it a recurring activity in my home. You’ll need one 12×12 scrapbook paper, scissors, yarn, hole punch, tape, and three pieces of “junk” construction paper. You fold the scrap paper in half and cut out one heart shape and 1.5 inside that heart, cut out another heart. Punch two holes through the top of the heart on both sides and tie two long pieces of yarn through the holes. Tape the end of the thread above a doorway at a height where your children will be able to toss comfortably. Cut three pink construction papers into four pieces and have the kids scrunch them up. Hand them the scrunched “balls” and have them throw it into the heart! It’s an enjoyable activity to add to a delightful day!

  • How You Can Stay Healthy This Winter Season

How You Can Stay Healthy This Winter Season

Winter Blues are real! And they’re preventing me from ever losing those 2 (ok, 7) pounds I’ve gained during the holiday festivities. There was so much planning, food, and fun that it’s genuinely no wonder we fall so behind regarding our health and fitness status. It’s common considering the many speculations we have encompassing our minds.

Once the holidays are over, we tend to fall in a state of…well, anxiety. I don’t blame you considering all the mania that flows over you suddenly. Staying indoors cuddled up next to a fireplace sounds a lot more comforting than hitting the gym or going for a jog. As that demotivation slowly consumes us, our immunity weakens, leading to illness, laziness, and even depression. This is why we tend to eat high carb foods in winter. The sugar raises serotonin levels in the brain, making us feel happier, therefore causing us to eat more throughout the day.

But I know how tough it is to get out of that funk. The path back to health-or staying healthy- is a bumpy, dark road. But simple steps can be taken to prevent you from falling behind and catching up on your health.

Freeze! Slowly back away from the cake!

Let’s start with that carb craving that seems to have no end. There’s no harm in indulging during the winter season, but distinguishing what your diet should consist of to boost your immune system is an excellent place to start. While food is a crucial part, nutritionist Sally Wisbey says that “staying positive, exercising and getting a good night’s sleep are also important.” Incorporating a fulfilling breakfast such as porridge or oats topped with winter fruits is a great way to stay energized and satiated throughout the day. Sources of Vitamin C, Zinc, and Omega 3 contribute to helping prevent bugs that cause viruses and assist in strengthening immunity.

It’s not easy avoiding sugary snacks, but finding healthier alternatives is a great way to stay healthy and not affect your weight.

I (don’t) like to move it, move it…

Now, finding the motivation to exercise is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. It’s almost impossible to get a workout in during the cold, but nonetheless, essential for a fit figure. No matter the weather, getting outside for a quick workout allows you to reconnect with nature and does wonders for your mood.

    via GIPHY

    Let’s get Fit(ted)!

Once you acquire the right information, it gets easier to get out there and consolidate a workout. When you know which workout clothes to invest in to keep you warm and your skin protected, you’re halfway there. If you live in a snowy area, then you need to keep traction in mind. Personal trainer Eric Ridings says staying “on plowed or salted surfaces” to lessen the risk of injuries. There’s also the option of heading to an indoor gym. Everyday Health has twelve incredibly helpful tips to help you get warmed up!

    Time to get LIIT…at home!

If working outdoors isn’t your jam, then contemplate working out indoors. Clear out some space and head to YouTube, because your options are endless

    via GIPHY

No, really, it’s incredible just how many channels are targeted for home workouts. Some of my favorites are FitnessBlender and The Body Project. You can take your pick, so whether you want something uncomplicated and light or a little more brutal and out of breath, it’s your pick! Some wonders come when working out in the comfort of your own home, so if this is what works better, then go for it!

Finally, if you feel like no matter what you do, there’s no hope, then partner up with a friend. When there’s two of you pushing each other to get sh*t done, then everything becomes more fun and a lot more challenging. You can set up a workout schedule, leave yourself motivating notes everywhere, write down tips that would make the process more comfortable, and of course, keep reminding yourself not to give up

    via GIPHY

It sounds like a ton of work. That’s because it truly is. Staying healthy during the winter takes a ton of willpower and loads of patience, but with the proper knowledge, it’ll become more straightforward, and it won’t seem like such a chore.
