Vacation Spots You Don’t Want to Miss This Summer

The need to travel always seems more notable during the summer season. The kids are off of school, the days drag on, the weather is hotter, and everything just seems more tiring. Plus, if you are not keeping busy, then the words “I am bored” will forever be scarred in your brain.

The top picks for summer spots are endless! Really, there are thousands of places that are bound to help you create long-lasting memories. Unfortunately, we could not fit all of them on a list, so here are just a few of our favorites.

    The Great Barrier Reef (Australia)

Known as one of the original Seven Wonders of the World, this is easily one of Australia’s biggest tourist attractions! Not only is The Great Barrier Reef the world’s most extensive coral reef system, but it is home to over 6000 species of sea life! While many people swarm here to admire the colorful marine life through snorkeling and diving, there are several other ventures you can take on. If you are not a swimmer, it is no problem; you can admire the beautiful transparent waters by boat or by air! Depending on how adventurous you are feeling, the choice is entirely up to you! Just be sure to plan everything out so you do not miss out on anything while you are here.

    Kruger National Park (South Africa)

If you are looking to get back in touch with nature and unleash your wild side, then this is the place for you. With options like group safaris, hikes, elephant back riding, camping, fishing, and quad biking, it is impossible to plan out your day with the many offers. You will get the chance to spot all wildlife and explore the park and see things you have only seen on National Geographic.

    Tripsavvy

It is also a great learning opportunity as you will acquire more about the animals, their lifestyle, and how we can prevent them from becoming extinct.

    Colorado Springs (Colorado)

Even though Colorado Springs is mostly known for its military bases, do not let that distract you from the fact that it is one of the more beautiful states in America. It is home to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and The Broadmoor Seven Falls. So for all my nature lovers, adrenaline junkies, and even photographers, Colorado Springs is a must add to your bucket list. Experience hikes of a lifetime, incredible shots of the breathtaking scenery, and enjoy tours of the Air Force Academy and U.S Olympic Training Center.

It’s not just the free healthcare that’s urging so many people to come to Canada; it’s the jaw-dropping views and endless adventures.

Known to many ski enthusiasts as one of the most magnificent ski resorts in the world, Whistler in the summer is rarely heard of. Activities include fishing in the many rivers and lakes, hundreds of miles of hiking trails, zip-lining (not for the faint-hearted), white water rafting, and of course, sightseeing.

    Tourism Whistler

It’s no secret that Canada’s scenery is like no other in the world, and its beauty is one of a kind. If you’ve yet had to drive up (or fly) to Canada to enjoy the unforgettable sights, Whistler in the summer is the place to go.

    Amalfi Coast  (Italy)

Ok, if we’re honest here, you don’t need a specific spot in Italy. Just go to Italy. I mean, c’ mon, everything about Italy brings on emotions you never knew existed (in the best way). But since we are talking about specific destinations, then you must visit the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

    Viator

This particular location is not as adventurous as the rest, but you sure as hell can be sure you’ll leave unwound, smiling, and craving more Italy.

If you want some beautiful scenery, then head to the north of Amalfi, where the town of Sorrento is located. If you’re an art or history major, you will fall head over heels in love with the town considering its long history. While there are tours of the town, the real gem here is the food. Many restaurants such as Marina Grande offer some of the best seafood you will ever taste while overlooking the Medditerarm.

    San Francisco (California)

Golden Gate Bridge? Fisherman’s Wharf? Alcatraz Island? Union Square? Art museums? Redwood Forest? Cable cars??

    Pixabay

Must I go on? You guys must have known San Francisco was going to make the list, because hello, Ghirardelli Square? The best chocolate to ever exist (this is not up for debate). The atmosphere is euphoric, the people are incredible, the food is unforgettable, and you get to ride a bike everywhere! So not only are you enjoying one of the most incredible places in the world, but you’re doing your part in saving our planet! Yay!

  • Fun and Memorable Ways to Propose

Fun and Memorable Ways to Propose

How you propose is a memory that is bound to stay with you for the rest of your life. You spent nights tossing and turning, trying to figure out how you’re going to pull it off. We get it; you want it to be memorable, unique, and relatable to your relationship. If you’re the creative type, perhaps you’ve already figured out how you’re going to pop the question, and you’re 100% sure it’s going to wow your partner. If you’re stuck like a barnacle, then don’t overthink it because here at HitchSwitch, we’ve got your back.

    via GIPHY

Here are some of the most memorable and exciting ways to propose to the love of your life.

Because every relationship is different, it’s always best to know what you think will appeal the most to your partner. Let’s say your partner is a foodie enthusiast. A few ideas would be:
      • Taking them to their favorite restaurant and ordering their favorite dish. When you choose to do this is entirely up to you; it could be early in the morning, late in the afternoon, or nearing midnight. You know your partner’s preferences better than anyone. Some couples have the chef place the ring in a slice of cake or the bottom of the breadstick basket. I’ve always considered that to be a choking hazard, so instead, when the waiter brings out dessert, get down on one knee, declare once again for them (and the public) how much you love them, and put a ring on it!
      • Are you the baker in the relationship? If not, don’t worry about it, you can always learn a thing or two on Youtube, and if not, you can still order a customized cake. Have the baker write the proposal in frosting and present it to your partner alone, at work, in front of the family, or what you think feels right! This goes without saying, but make sure the cake is flavored to your partner’s taste preference.
      • Love wine? Tie a string around the ring and wrap it around the cork of the wine bottle. Over dinner or something as simple as movie night, ask your partner to open a bottle, and watch their jaw drop! You’ll probably be super hungover the next day, but yay, you’re engaged!

    via GIPHY

If you and your partner both work, and you can’t seem to find the right time or way to propose, you can try:
      • Asking their co-workers to help you with the proposal. You can personally work on a sign yourself, or have it done at a print shop. You could buy a sign the size of a room if you want! But of course, it doesn’t have to be that outrageous. Letter balloons are a great way to propose, as well. Buy the letters you need and have the employees each hold a letter, so it spells out “Will You Marry Me?” This could happen as your partner is coming in to work or leaving.
      • Send “little” gifts throughout their day. For example, you send them flowers in the morning, a box of pizza for lunch, a love note or text reminding them you cherish them, and the final item, a box of chocolates with a diamond ring in place of one of the chocolates!

    via GIPHY

If you and your partner are the outdoorsy type and are always looking for adventure, then get ready, because you’re going to adore these proposals!

      • Not only is hiking a great way to bond and keep fit, but it’s also a great place to dedicate your life to your loved one. You both spend an hour (or hours) hiking to the top of a mountain, appreciating nature, and pumping happy hormones, and finally get to the top and…the view is unforgettable, ergo you bend the knee (RIP Mother of Dragons) and pop the question.
      • Beaches are another beautiful place, especially if you both love to swim. After taking a dip, you take your partner for a stroll on the beach. You might need some help from friends with this one, though. As your walking, take your partner to higher grounds (if there’s any) and take a selfie of the two of you. There, in the background, written in the sand, are the words your friends worked so hard to write, “Will You Marry Me?”

    via GIPHY

So far, a majority of our proposals have been in public places, so why not a couple for at home or with the help of family?
      • Two words. Scavenger hunt. What’s better than leaving riddles and having your partner run around trying to figure them out? This is an excellent activity to involve family and obviously, have them in on the whole thing. To conclude the game, make sure that the last riddle won’t be a riddle at all. At the moment that your partner is facing away from you, you get the chance to get down on one knee, before they eventually turn around and become awe-struck.
      • Another two words? Movie marathon. Pick some of your partner’s favorite films along with snacks, drinks, and of course, the ring. There are two ways you can do this. One, you propose when a love scene comes on or when your partner is entirely distracted, or two, you play a recording of yourself you’ve taped prior to this event. In the recording, you’re talking about everything you love about your partner and how you want to spend the rest of your life with them.

    via GIPHY

Then proceed to do what you got to do!

  • Top Bachelorette Destinations

    Top Bachelorette Destinations

    (That Aren’t Vegas)

Do you know what screams out ‘boring’? Having the opportunity to host a bachelorette party and choosing Sin City as your party destination. Why does everyone always head to Vegas, anyway? I know there’s so much more to bachelorette parties than half-naked men and getting so drunk that you forget your own name.

Someone needs to redefine the whole event and make it more of a getaway than a drunken weekend.

Well, that was my rant and now moving on to more pressing issues. If you’ve been given the honor to host your best friend’s bachelorette, then get ready. Below, we’ve got the complete list of places that will guarantee Team Bride a grand time.

Some of these may seem a little far out, but if you’re not making memories and lasting impressions, then really, what are you doing?

    The Hamptons, New York

If you’re not thinking White Chicks, then I don’t know what to tell you.

So The Hamptons. Expensive? I’ll tell you now; it ain’t cheap.

Time to step up your game and get those shades and bikinis ready, ladies! Other than offering some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, there are several things to do in Southampton. Cooper’s Beach rates #1 on Trip Advisor as one of the most notable attractions in the area.

    Tripadvisor

If beaches aren’t your thing and you’d prefer to spend the weekend shopping and hitting the day spa, then East Hampton is for you. Restaurants such as East Hampton Grill and Bostwick’s Chowder House are great for a lunch outing with the girls. When you’re done, take a stroll and merely enjoying the town’s antique shops is a great way to spend the day.

    Los Angeles, California

There will always be a soft spot in my heart for SoCal, as it is where I grew up. Also, Disneyland and Universal Studios.

Beautiful beaches, top-rated restaurants, rooftop lounges, nightclubs, five-star hotels, and of course, In-N-Out. No matter what occasion you’re planning, if you’re in California and don’t chow down on some In-N-Out, then you’re missing out.

Don’t forget to snap a selfie near the Hollywood sign, take a walk down the Hollywood Walk of Fame, go for a swim at Venice Beach, and don’t forget the most important thing…the drinking. Hey, no matter where the city takes you, don’t forget your mission.

    UrbanDaddy

Head over to some of the city’s most famous clubs and still maintain your classy outing. Contrary to belief, we don’t just live off of avocados and kale juice. With the endless choices of top-notch restaurants, why would we? If you’re ready to take in the city lights and party all night, LA is truly the city that never sleeps.

    Vail, Colorado

I know what you’re thinking. Of all places, why Colorado? Hear me out.

Colorado is one of the most beautiful states for wildlife. Seriously, check out these images. It’s a great escape for anyone who loves the outdoors! If your friend (or you) are the adventurous types, then Anywhere, Colorado should be on your list! Plus it’s a great place to live if you’re looking for cheap rent, but that’s an entirely different article.

Vail is home to a massive ski resort with endless activities for you and the whole girl gang. If you’re not a fan of tropical weather, then Vail might be your dream bachelorette destination.

    Manor Vail Lodge

So what is there to do other than go skiing (obviously)? You can go hiking near the Missouri Lake Trail, enjoy a Wagyu steak dinner, get drunk at high altitude, and take tours that show off the resort’s beautiful sights. At the end of the day, not only will you be wiped out, but every picture will be Instagram worthy.

    #BestBachelorettePartyEVER

    Santorini, Greece

When you think of Greece, you think of white buildings with dome ceilings perched on a cliff overlooking the Aegean sea. Very romantic.

    CN Traveler

That, my friend, is Santorini. I didn’t even know this place existed until it aired on KUWTK. I follow a ton of traveling Instas, and this place is always flooding my timeline. Santorini is just one of the thousands of islands that make up Greece.

Even though the black sand beaches are the main attractions here, you can still party at Santorini’s most famous nightclub, Enigma. If you’re looking for the perfect place to have your brunch, then look no further than Armeni Santorini. This island’s breathtaking beaches, delicious food, and humble people will make this the ultimate bachelorette destination.

    Florence, Italy

Italy will always be that place that crosses my mind and makes me think, “Why am I not there yet?” The culture, the food, the men, the attractions, the people, the music, and the food ( yes, I said food twice, stop judging).

    Road Affair

So when you’re not all eating your weight in pizza and garlic bread, what else is there to do in Florence? For starters, you head over to Terrazza Lounge Bar and have a couple of drinks because you need time to take in the beauty that it Florence. If you want to learn more about the city’s history of Renaissance Art, you can visit Bargello Museum. Feeling famished? La Buchetta Food and Wine is known for its delicious gnocchi and wine (duh).

If you want your party to make lasting impressions and leave you ten pounds heavier, then Italy is the place for you.

  • Top 15 Items That Need to Make Your Wedding Registry

Top 15 Items That Need to Make Your Wedding Registry

Raise your hand if you’re feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and are about to get hitched.

Hey there. Yeah, you. As if planning a wedding wasn’t hard enough, now you have to think about what you need for your newlywed home. Organizing a wedding registry could either be the most relaxing task you can do, or the most dreadful. It all depends on you and what’s going through that pretty head of yours.

When I first got married, I only knew how to do one thing, and that was pouring water into an ice tray and throwing it in the freezer. I am a coffee addict but yet never learned how to use the espresso machine (not that K-Cup crap, an actual espresso machine with a filter). I had no idea what a new home would need!

I did what any inexperienced bride would do and bought several sets of nonstick pans, chef knives, kitchen gadgets I still don’t know how to use, and as many towels as I could (23 to be exact).

I was still at that His and Hers phase, so almost everything was monogrammed… and boy, do I regret it.

Well, I’m here today to help you figure out what is a necessity and what isn’t. Remember, in the end, it all depends on your preference, so don’t go registering things you don’t need or don’t know how to use!

    Coffee/Espresso Machine

I’m just going to go ahead and say it (again). I’m an addict. A coffee addict. I once drank eight cups in one sitting. So you can understand why this would be number one on my list. If you’re an early bird whose work consists of mostly sitting at a desk in front of a computer screen, then owning a coffee machine wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

Amazon Choice: Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Coffee Maker, Black

I mean, honestly, why spend $6 bucks every day at Starbucks for fancy coffee when you can save your money and time at home?

    Stand Up Mixer

If you have the counter space, then a stand-up mixer is a great investment. Not only will it be a great addition to any kitchen, but it has been a lifesaver for me when baking.

Here is a list to help you convince you of what a great product it truly is.

Amazon Choice: Hamilton Beach 64650 6-Speed Classic Stand Mixer, Stainless Steel, 4-Quart Bowl and Accessories

    Food Processor

While food processors perform fewer tasks than stand up mixers, don’t underestimate their working power. Most food processors come with separate discs, which help in shredding and slicing food. This is great if you’re short on time or need extra help in the kitchen. Most importantly, they are great for dips and homemade hummus.

Amazon Choice: Hamilton Beach (70730) Food Processor & Vegetable Chopper with Bowl Scraper, 10 Cup, Electric

Here are just some ways to use a food processor.

    Blender

Yay! Another multipurpose kitchen product. I know I’m going overboard with kitchen products, but it’s the best room in the house, so you know we have to go the extra mile here!

    Amazon Choice: NutriBullet NBR-1201 12-Piece High-Speed Blender/Mixer System, Gray (600 Watts)

Now, before buying a blender, keep in mind that a blender and food processor can perform several similar tasks, so there’d be no need to take both. But if smoothies are your to-go-to every morning, evening, and night,   then a more unadorned blender would be better than buying a whole set.

    Dutch Oven

A cooking pot made mostly with heavy ceramic or metal and can be used on your stovetop for nearly everything. It can be used for roasting, making stews, and because it can be transferred into an over at any time, it’s excellent for making casseroles.

Amazon Choice: AmazonBasics Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven – 6-Quart, Blue

    Cooking and Knife Set

You will need a set of nonstick pans and pots. You will use them for everyday tasks from boiling your eggs to making lasagne. A knife set doesn’t have to be extravagant, just something useful that will cut fruit, vegetables, and meat.

Amazon Choice: T-fal C530SC Signature Nonstick Dishwasher Safe Cookware Set, Nonstick Pots and Pans Set, Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator, 12 Piece, Black

    Vacuum Cleaner

Is your new home mostly carpet? Do you own cats, dogs, or any other animal that sheds fur? Do you have babies, toddlers, or teenagers?

Amazon Choice: Bissell Cleanview Upright Bagless Vacuum Cleaner, Orange, 1831

If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any one of those, then no need to think twice about this one.

    Television

Where else are you going to rewatch every Game of Thrones season and cry yourself to sleep?

Amazon Choice: TCL 40S325 40 Inch 1080p Smart LED Roku TV (2019)

    Bath Robes

Don’t worry; it doesn’t have to His and Hers. When you invest in quality bathrobes, you will not regret it. Sitting in a towel after a shower is one thing, but sitting in a robe is an entirely different experience. You’ve basically dressed already, so you are in no rush to get dressed.

Amazon Choice: Classic Turkish Towels Luxury Terry Cloth Bathrobe – Premium Hotel Robes – Made with 100% Turkish Cotton

    Bath Rug

I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out. A bath rug can really shape the look of your entire bathroom if you know what to look for. Pottery Barn said it best.

Amazon Choice: Genteele Memory Foam Bath Mat Non Slip Absorbent Super Cozy Velvet Bathroom Rug Carpet

    Bed Sheets

Make sure you know the size of your mattress before purchasing! Also, make sure you’re familiar with their return policy in case the bed sheets do not fit your comforter!

Amazon Choice: Mellanni Bed Sheet Set – Brushed Microfiber 1800 Bedding – Wrinkle, Fade, Stain Resistant – Hypoallergenic – 4 Piece

    Plush Robes

For all those early mornings and late nights. Plus the comfort makes it feel like someone is hugging you, and isn’t that what we all need?

Alexander Del Rossa Women’s Plush Fleece Robe with Hood, Solid Bathrobe

    Cotton Towels

Towels are essential for the bathroom, bedroom, children’s room, and any guest room in the house.

Amazon Choice: Pinzon by Amazon Collection Pinzon Organic Cotton Bath Towel (4-Pack), Indigo Blue

    BBQ Grill

Great to have when summer comes rolling back around!

Amazon Choice: Barbecue Charcoal Grill Stainless Steel Folding Portable BBQ

    Lawn Equipment

If you own a yard, this is something to consider. If you’re a gardener, then you already know the necessities of lawn equipment for your planting.

Amazon Choice: GreenWorks 20-Inch 12 Amp Corded Lawn Mower 25022, 20 inch

For my simpler folks, investing in a lawnmower might be something to contemplate.

  • 9 Essential Questions to Ask Before Booking a Wedding Venue

9 Essential Questions to Ask Before Booking a Wedding Venue

Wedding season is upon us, my good people. Love, joy, and excitement fill our polluted air, and I, for one, am so ready to dance on top of tables and get escorted out by security. It’s only happened once so far, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a reputation to uphold.

Finding your dream venue is a chore all on its own. For some, it could be love at first sight and others might need a little more time before saying “I do” to the venue of their dreams. Nonetheless, it’s an exciting endeavor where you and your loved ones will create the memories of a lifetime.

    via GIPHY

To help make this task more comfortable, we’ve come up with nine questions that are a must ask before booking any venue.

    What dates are available?

No doubt, you have a specific date in mind. Before discussing anything with the vendor, the first thing you need to know is if they are available on your target date. If you are set on a date, and the venue isn’t accessible, then quickly move on. If you’re flexible about the whole thing and are willing to go with the first open day, then finding a venue will be a lot easier.

How much to rent the space? Plus what’s included in that fee?

According to Value Penguin, “Couples spend between $12,343 and $14,006 on average for their wedding venue…This cost includes any general location fee as well as food, drinks and incidentals like tables, chairs and linens.”

    via GIPHY

I’m sure this comes as no surprise to many as wedding venues are known to- as my father-in-law says- bite the wallet. If you are trying to stay within a budget, then this is another question you need to get out of the way quickly. Some venues offer food, setup, stereos, lights, and much more with their rental fee, but some offer little to nothing. That means that aside from renting the space, you will need to take into account the tables, caterers, decorations, DJ, and much more.

If the weather turns, is there an indoor space available?

“It doesn’t even rain in California.”

A moment of silence for my dumb friend who decided on a venue in Malibu. Towards the end of February. Did she take Mother Nature seriously? No. Did Mother Nature show her who the freakin’ boss is? Yes. It rained all day and spoiler alert, there was no Plan B: no indoor space, no other venue, nada. Do yourself a huge favor and settle on a site that can accommodate you and your guest in case the weather decides to take a turn.

Is catering provided, or do I need to bring in my own caterers?

Critical, critical, and I mean critical that you know the catering situation before you book a venue. If they can provide caterers and food, you need to know what to expect.
What does the menu look like? How will the food be presented? Will they be able to accommodate their list of foods to those with gluten allergies, lactose intolerance, nut allergies, or vegetarians? How many courses will be provided? Will it be worth the money you put in?

    via GIPHY

Speak to the head chef and get an idea of how things work. If a caterer is not provided, then you will need to discuss bringing in your own caterers and setting up food for your guests.

What makes this venue a better choice for my guests?

Look around you. How does the air feel? How is the location? Is there enough parking spots for my guests? Are there enough tables? Chairs? Will there be any handicapped attending and if so, are there ramps or elevators available? Accessibility should be a priority for your guests. There should be at least four bathrooms per 100 people.

You’ve been a guest at a party before, what would you expect at an event like this? The best gift you can offer your guests is a comfortable environment.

When can we start setting up the venue?

If you are responsible for setting up your venue, ask if the location offers any equipment you can rent out. Do the staffing provide any help, or is it an all-me job? Take into account how much time you will need to get everything set up. Some venues come built with beautiful decor, but some can be plain and require extra work, which may cost you a pretty penny.

    via GIPHY

Are there any hotels near, and if so, are you partnered with any of them?

Several venues have a partnership with nearby hotels so you can score a discount. Think of this one as a plus, not a must. If the location of your venue is far from most of your guest’s hometown, then look into it. After a long night of partying and drinking, most people would prefer to stay close.

Can we bring in our own alcohol for the bar? If not, how is your bar priced?

Tough one. Unfortunately, the majority of venues do not allow you to bring in liquor from the outside world. Considering it’s something they can massively profit from, I don’t blame them. Nonetheless, you should be familiar with the range of prices.

    What is the cancellation policy?

Just like not knowing if the weather’s going to turn on you, you also never know when something else might pop up. You might need to reschedule for several reasons you weren’t expecting. Hell, you may have even found another venue that has won you over. Either way, it’s best to know how much you will be refunded if you decide to cancel. Some places offer a full refund if you cancel far enough in advance, but if you cancel close to the target date, you will have a hard time receiving a full refund.

  • 6 Bridal Shower Mistakes to Avoid

6 Bridal Shower Mistakes to Avoid

Congratulations! You have been bestowed with the honor that BFFs everywhere dream of: the maid of honor.  If this is something you’ve been looking forward to and anticipated since the sixth grade, then good for you! If it was unexpected, and you didn’t see it coming… then have fun pulling an all-nighter on how to throw a bridal shower!

Here’s the reality of it; it is not easy and requires some work. But while we can’t tell you how to throw a bridal shower, we can tell you what to avoid.

    1. Not Creating a List

If you’ve read any of the previous blogs, you’ll know that we have a slight obsession with list. Like any other event in life, a bridal shower needs to be planned out to the final detail. You’re throwing a party for another person and you’re reaching for perfection, so composing a to-do list is your #1 priority! You need to make a checklist that helps you in preparing for the event. You need to pick a date, a venue, a theme, and make sure you don’t invite anyone the bride wouldn’t want there. Here’s a short  list to help you get started.

    2. It’s YOUR Money, So Set a Budget

If this is your first time planning a bridal shower, then expenses will be coming out of your pocket. Sit with the bride and get an idea of what she would like. If you feel like it’s out of your budget, you should not feel pressured to continue! You can kindly ask if you can have a co-host! That way, you won’t go home to an empty wallet at the end of the day.

The key is not to overthink anything. You can still organize a memorable party without exceeding your budget limit. Prioritize what is necessary and ask fellow bridesmaids on where to buy decorations, food, or anything else without breaking the bank.

The goal is to spend enough money to throw a beautiful party and still have some left over to buy a gift for the bride.

    3. Communication is Essential

Even though we want to avoid telling the bride anything, it is vital that you keep communications open with her on a few topics! Anything you’re reluctant about needs to be consulted with guest of honor! A few matters include guest lists, food, and theme. Always ask the bride for the list of names for the guests 4-6 weeks before the party! If her relatives are going to be coming and she wants to keep the party modest, then you need to keep that in mind when setting up decorations!

This is not a bachelorette party; it’s a bridal shower.

Also, when getting together that guest list and before sending out those invitations, make sure everything is 100% correct. You don’t want a typo,  a wrong date, or anyone not knowing what the theme is.

    4. Going Solo is a No-No

Hey, we get it, you want everything to be flawless. You want to bask in the glory and take all the praise. Listen, a bridal shower is a ton of work, and if someone offers to help, accept it. If you need help with arrangements, then, by all means, ask a friend for a hand!

Something is always bound to fall between the cracks, and you can still be the boss but with a few helping hands.

    5. Granny is Going to be There, So Keep the Fun PG

Again, this is not the bachelorette party, so save the dildos for Vegas.

Refer back to the guest list: will there be relatives present? Are the activities appropriate? Will they make anyone uncomfortable? Co-workers or friends might show up with their kids, so let’s not plan anything that might raise any questions.

    6. Not Thinking of Your Guests

You get a gift bag, YOU get a gift bag, EVERYBODY GETS A GIFT BAG!

Also, a thank you card. Want to be the MOH that ranks above all the other maid of honors? Arrange gift bags for all your guests.

You can even customize them by placing each individual’s name on the bag, but that’s optional. Our advice to you when putting a gift back together: keep everything mini. Mini chocolates, mini lotion, mini alcohol bottles, and gift cards for the bride’s closest relatives (mom, sister, grandma).

Being chosen to prep a party for the bride is a great honor. When the day’s over, grab whatever champagne is left and go home. God knows you deserve a break. Good luck and happy planning!

  • These Three Men Changed Their Name After Getting Married and Here’s Why

These Three Men Changed Their Name After Getting Married and Here’s Why

You probably read that title and thought “wait, what?” I get it; it’s a weird and possibly taboo topic.

Are you saying there are men out there who willingly change their surname to their wife’s?

And the answer is yes, my friends, there is. It is sporadic to find, and I’m not going to lie, it took me forever to find three men willing to talk about their experiences, but in the end, I came out victorious. More and more women today are choosing to keep their last name or deciding to merge last names after marriage. It’s no wonder considering the role of female workers in society rising, political movements, lack of women’s rights brought to light, and same-sex marriage being legalized in 2015.

The following interviewees have changed their last names to their wife’s and here’s why they did it.

    Omar Brenly

What thoughts went through your head when you decided to take your wife’s name?

Surprisingly, not much *laughs*. We had been together for over five years and engaged for two, so we knew who was changing what after the wedding. My father’s from Afghanistan and my mother is American, and she took my father’s last name. I’ve never really been one for tradition and work-wise, my wife is the breadwinner of the family so when she told me she was keeping her maiden name, I knew I wanted to take her name as well.

How did your family react to the news of you taking your wife’s name?

My father is a very old fashioned man, so when I first told him, he thought I was joking. He laughed it off and said to me that real men don’t make decisions like these. In his mind, I was throwing away my family name, but I didn’t see it that way.  My mother, who’s considerably more open-minded since she grew up in the states did her best to convince him that times have changed, but no luck. I’m still on good terms with him, but if someone were to bring up the subject, God help us all.

Do you ever have second thoughts about changing your name back?

I do not. It’s not something i even think about really. It’s a small sacrifice I was willing to make for my wife and what’s done is done.

    Philip Gibbons

Did you face any criticism at the workplace because you took your wife’s name?

You know, it’s hard not to be criticized no matter where you go. The idea that a man can take his wife’s name isn’t even recognizable by society yet. Many of my co-workers thought I was in a same-sex marriage, but when I cleared things up, some jaws dropped. They were shocked, to say the least. To others, it’s a very political topic, when it’s just an intimate decision you make that should concern you and your partner.

What prompted you to take your wife’s name?

My wife is an only child to Irish immigrants. We were discussing merging names or possibly hyphenation when it dawned on her that she didn’t want to lose her family name. At first, we didn’t dig into it because it just seemed like too much work. When we found out we were pregnant; we decided its best to stick to one family name, which was hers.

Do you ever miss going by your birth given name?

It took some getting used to in the beginning, especially the paperwork process and practicing a new signature at work. Now and then, I get nostalgic, but I never regret the decision. I have two children now, who definitely look more like their mother than me *laughs*, so I feel like I made the right choice.

    Rogelio Delgado

How did you come to take your wife’s last name?

We were on our honeymoon, and we arrived at the hotel ready to check in. The woman behind the desk addressed me as Mr. Perez and Dr. Delgado, who is my wife. Even before marriage, I  knew my wife’s work status would forever outshine me, and it always made me proud to introduce my wife to people as a doctor. You instantly feel the atmosphere shift as soon as a doctor walks in the room, right, and I always told her how envious I was. I knew my wife would not change her name and I had no problem with that considering her name meant a lot in her field. I took her name because I was immensely proud to be married to her.

What has been the biggest challenge for you down this road?

Paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork! I had to visit the DMV, the SS office, the bank, and everywhere that needed a name change. People would not believe that a man was taking his wife’s name. I saw in people’s eyes how belittling I seemed in front of them. No matter where I went, people were struck with confusion. My family, friends, and peers were sure that it was my wife’s choice and not the other way around. I felt explaining myself was absolutely useless.

How did your wife react when you told her?

She tried to talk me out of it. She insisted we both keep our surnames and not worry about changing them at all. She was sure I was going to go through hell and round-the-clock interrogation from all our friends and family. She was right! But if I could go back and do it all over again, I would. Some people are just worth it.

    Wedding Budget Saving Tips

    Wedding Budget Saving Tips

If you could describe a wedding in three words, what would they be?

If you’ve never had a wedding of your own, then let me take the words right out of your mouth. Beautiful. Elegant. Fun.

Yeah, yeah, I get it, being a guest is the frickin’ best because unless you’re the bride or groom, you didn’t pay for anything. You went all dolled up, ate a filet mignon steak with a side of couscous, got drunk, and went home. That’s what guests do, and I know this because I attend over three weddings a month.

My three words? Too. Damn. Expensive.

    via GIPHY

According to Business Insider, “The average wedding cost in the US is $33,391”. I’ve been married since 2017, and I am still in debt for the extravagant wedding my in-laws persisted we have. They only have one son so you can imagine how that conversation went.

Anyways, there are several things you can do that will help you save hundreds of dollars on your special day.

    Here are our top four.

    1. Scratch Off Anyone You Haven’t Seen In 2+ Years

Let’s be real. Does your great uncle Paul from your mom’s side that you haven’t seen in over five years really need to be invited? I know when it comes to creating a guest list for your special day, you want the whole world to know, but think of it this way: the more people come, the more money out of your pocket.

Honestly, I get it. At some point, you feel an obligation to invite some people even though you barely know them. While my husband and I were creating the guest list at the time, we were incredibly stressed out because more than half the people on the list were closer to our parents, not to us. It rounded up to over 200 people.

    via GIPHY

A word of advice? Cut out anybody you haven’t spoken or heard from in the past two years. Explain to your parents and future in-laws that you would rather save that extra cash for something that will benefit you and your partner in the near future.

    2. You Don’t Need Filet Mignon With Couscous

You can’t have starving guests. Even though prices vary per guest in every state, you’re looking at an average of $85 per plate. And that’s the not so fancy weddings. If you want a New York wedding, you’re looking at an $80,000 fee.

Here I thought California was too expensive.

So what do you do? If you’re looking to save money, then I’ll tell you what you don’t do, and that is hiring a caterer. As soon as you mention the M word (married), anything that will cost ten bucks will jump to a hundred. We know it’s the same product, but we’re under so much stress at the time that we couldn’t give a shit, am I right?

    via GIPHY

If you have any close friends that run family-owned restaurants or if your family is in the food industry, you can always ask them to cater! It doesn’t need to be anything fancy because I promise you, people just want to eat. I had a friend who served chicken thighs on top of basmati rice at her wedding, and you better believe it was the best darn thing I’ve ever tasted.

So no need to over think the food because you’re not going to look back on this day and think, “I should have gone with the $8000 caterers”.

    3. Mother Nature is Your New Wedding Venue

Haven’t you heard? That’s, like, totally a thing now.

Renting out a plaza for your wedding reception is crazy expensive. I know this because mine cost me a thousand for the night.

Lately, I have been noticing a ton of people planning their wedding in their backyard. There are a few who also use public parks because it’s already fixed up beautifully without costing a dime.

Bridal Musings does a wonderful job on how to set up a backyard wedding.

    4. Skip The Bouquet and Settle For A Single Rose

For a few of my brides, this might strike a nerve. If you’re one of those brides who want to preserve your bouquet in a glass frame, then by all means, skip this step. Before I continue, I would just like to state that I have been to weddings without a single flower in sight and I have been to weddings where over $2000 was spent only on flowers.

    via GIPHY

Other than your bouquet, you need to keep in mind the bridesmaids, the flower girls, the corsages, table centerpieces, and much more that I can’t remember at the moment.

Also, flowers die. Imagine spending $2000 on flowers just for them to die that same night. Holy crap, you can buy a used car with that amount of money. Now, there are alternatives to flowers such as candles, crystal vases, goldfish bowls with petals, and even fake flowers. If flowers are a must, then keep them to a minimal.

If you’re the DIY’er in the family, then all you need is to pick a few roses from your nearest public park and get to working.

The list goes on and on…and on. Shop for your dress or tux off the clearance rack, ask family and friends to help with the setup instead of buying professional work, buy affordable wedding rings, stay in state for the honeymoon, set up karaoke instead of hiring a DJ.

Ok, maybe that last one isn’t necessary, but you get my point.

  • How to decide if you should change your name?

How to decide if you should change your name?

How to decide if you should change your name?

Changing one’s name is no easy task, nor is it something you decide to do overnight. A person’s name is their brand and identity. It’s how people know us; it’s how they associate things with us. Like if someone mentions your name, others might associate you with your famous chicken pot pie or even something horrible, like being a total asshole. Hey, it could be something you’re proud of, who knows?

    Like I said, not easy.

    via GIPHY

Now, what reasons are there for one to change their name? If you’re like me, you always thought it was just a marriage thing. When you dig a little deeper, you find out some people change their name just because they don’t like them. Other reasons include divorce, combining surnames, religious reasons, or want a less (or more) ethnic name.

If you’re on the brink of changing your name, but are hesitant and don’t know what steps to take, here’s what you need to know before making a life-changing decision.

    No Fancy Work, All You

That’s right, all you. Even though changing a name is a long process, it is also pretty straightforward. You don’t need to hire an attorney or worry about it being too complicated. If the name change is not marriage related, the process is relatively simple depending on where you reside.

You need to gather up any paperwork with your current name on it (social security, ID, driver license, etc.) and prepare it in case a judge asks to see it. Then you complete a petition for Change of Name where you will provide your current name, SSN, and reasons for changing your name. After the paperwork is filled out, you pay a filing fee which is usually no more than $100 and are assigned a hearing. You attend the hearing, answer the honorable judge’s question, get the judge’s signature, and boom, you’ve got yourself a name change.

It’ll Cost You a Couple Hundos

Most worthwhile things do, I guess. Although price varies from state to state, the big chunk of your payment will be from obtaining a court order and publishing it in a newspaper (more on that later). Documentation fees also vary from state to state, so the best thing you can do is check the website for your county courthouse and see how much each document will cost you (usually between $20-$25). When you get the ok to change your name from the court, you will have to pay up for every official copy you request that is stamped with an official seal.

Of course, there are always companies who simplify the name change process by providing you with all the applications you need from your state for an incredible price. They also offer excellent customer service and are with you every step of the way until you are delighted with your new name.

It’s us. We’re that company, and our goal is to make the name change process as effortless and painless as possible. We’re here for you!

    via GIPHY

There Cannot Be Two Ryan Goslings

Can you imagine, though? I personally feel like it would make the world a better place. According to Insider, there are a few exceptions when it comes to the name change, and here they are:

    • Celebrity name (intentionally misleading)
    • No punctuations or numerals
    • Nothing racial/offensive
    • If you have committed a crime or are in debt

Hello World, This Is The New Me

This is where the other big chunk of your money will go to because the majority of states require you to publish your name change in the newspaper! Yes, you will have to pay a publisher to post that you have officially changed your name under a category named “legal notices.”

And if we’re being brutally honest here, that shit’s expensive. Of course, all newspaper prices differ, and if you’re lucky, maybe your judge will let you pick where you would like to post your announcement.

    via GIPHY

Slow Your Roll, This Might Take a While

A wise man once told me, “Seriously, can you chill the f–k out?”

Kidding, I say that like a hundred times a day to myself. The thing is that this will take a while. Like “longer than waiting for your number to be called at the DMV” while. I know what you’re thinking, but again, if you are not up to complete the process, HitchSwitch will do all the work for you! No lines, no waiting, no worrying, and no more headaches.

    via GIPHY

If you’re having a hard time deciding, I don’t blame you! A name is like a valuable you own and you can’t imagine yourself without it! But with every end, comes a new beginning. So who knows, maybe a new name will lead to a new and better life?

    Cheers to your new name!
