Here Are the Five Safest and Most Exciting Travel Destinations for 2022

As we come out of the past few years of limited travel and staying home, people will begin to feel the itch to get out again in 2022. Many places are beginning to open up while still implementing safety precautions.

Whether you’re looking for someplace warm, someplace adventurous, or someplace lowkey, there is a destination for you. 2022 is the year to explore the world again, take in the sights, all while remaining safe. Let’s take a look at the best locations for travel in 2022.

    Fiji

Fiji is one of the largest honeymoon and destination spots for many couples. Fiji begins 2022 at Level 1 on the State Department’s travel advisory scale, and it currently has a low level of virus. This makes it a great and safe destination this year.

Should you choose to visit, consider stopping at Kadavu island and getting a proper taste of the culture of the Fiji islands. It is surrounded by one of the world’s largest barrier reefs, Great Astrolabe Reef, in which visitors can experience a snorkeling experience like no other. For the adventurous traveler, trek 10 kilometers through the Lavena Coastal Walk and wind through tropical rainforest to find a hidden waterfall.

    Canada

Canada has been known as one of the safest countries in the world, and it remains that way in 2022. It landed third on Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection’s list of the safest places to travel in 2022.

Perhaps you could choose to stop in Alberta to experience lakes and mountains. Alberta is also home to Fort Edmonton Park, which is Canada’s largest living history museum and now homes a 30,000 square foot exhibit that immerses the visitor into the First Nations and Métis culture. In winter of 2022, the park launches a new experience titled Whispers from the Stars, in which visitors will hear Métis stories of the constellations. Alberta is a destination full of adventure and rich in culture.

    British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands started the New Year strong with receiving Level 1 travel advisory from the CDC and State Department and is open for international visitors. There is also eased protocol for fully vaccinated individuals. Should you choose the British Virgin Islands as your 2022 destination, there are a few excursions you won’t want to miss.

First, take a dip in Baths National Park, located on Virgin Gorda’s shore. These natural wonders are pools formed by molten rock. Another sight to see is the all-coral island of Anegada. It is the British Virgin Islands’ largest and only all-coral island. Visitors can arrive here via a ferry or charter flight and enjoy the day snorkeling or scuba diving.

    New Zealand

New Zealand has been locked down the past few years to outside visitors due to the pandemic. However, there is hope that in 2022 that New Zealand will reopen its doors to tourists once again. It’s limited traffic however has ensured it would be a very safe travel destination with low risk of exposure to the virus.

New Zealand is known for being one of the most beautiful countries in the world, so any tourist arriving here would not be lacking for sights to see. One of these is the Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, where you’ll find Pohutu, the biggest active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere. For a city experience, visit Queenstown, the country’s adventure capital. For adrenaline junkies, try the Shotover Canyon Swing, the world’s highest cliff jump.

    The Bahamas

Another hot spot for many, 2022 vacationers will be happy to learn that the islands received Level 2 travel advisories from the CDC and the State Department in December.

While the Bahamas are known for its beaches and clear, blue waters, it’s not for a lack of history or culture. On Paradise Island, travelers can visit the remnants of a 14th century French Monastery that was brought to the island. For a more lighthearted and fun excursion, take a tour to Big Major Cay and see the swimming pigs of the Bahamas. Lastly, visitors can take a dive along the world’s third largest reef. The Andros Barrier Reef is 190 miles long and home to exotic fish and a 6,000 foot trench named the Tongue of the Ocean.

    Safe Travels

Of course, it is always recommended that you do whatever makes you feel the most safe and comfortable. However, if travel is on your agenda in 2022, be relieved in knowing it can be perfectly attainable and enjoyable with correct precautions. There is much of the world to see and places to explore, and if you so decide, there’s no better time to get out there.

  • HERE ARE THE TOP 10 WEDDING TRENDS FROM 2021 THAT WILL LAST IN 2022

HERE ARE THE TOP 10 WEDDING TRENDS FROM 2021 THAT WILL LAST IN 2022

The new year is finally here and with it comes new and updated wedding trends. We will likely see many changes with weddings as we do every year, certain styles come and go. However, there are many trends that took hold in 2021 that are likely to last into 2022, and perhaps forever. Coming out of the pandemic of 2020, weddings had to undergo many changes, and couples realized that some were for the better. So, let’s take a look at some of the trends of 2021 that will likely stand for the next foreseeable future.

    MORE INTENTIONAL GUEST LISTS

The pandemic caused many wedding guest lists to shrink significantly. And, as things started to open up in 2021 allowing guest lists to grow again, couples intentionality behind their list continued. Many couples are taking a hard look at their invitees and choosing a more careful curation of the list. Careless, courtesy invites are a thing of the past as couples prioritize celebrating with the truly important people in their lives.

    DIY WEDDING DECOR

Couples looking to be intentional or save money are deciding to DIY some of their wedding decor. Via painted vases, DIY bouquets, or custom created centerpieces, couples are saving money by getting creative. The extra funds are being reallocated for aspects of the wedding that are becoming more nonnegotiable, such as the honeymoon or a wedding videographer.

    RESTAURANT STYLE PLATES

In 2021, we saw a drop in popularity of family, buffet style dinners. Couples are now opting for the more formal, restaurant style dinner plate. Individually served plates will avoid communal serving utensils and reduce the spread of germs. Not only that, but in 2021 and predicted for 2022, couples are seen shifting to focus more on the meal and make it an experience for their guests. Couples are customizing the meal to tie back to their love story and create a grand dinner party now that there is more freedom post-pandemic.

    WEEKDAY WEDDINGS

Due to the pandemic, couples struggled to book their venues on the traditional Saturday, and instead had their weddings on Friday or Sunday. However, we are seeing that couples are enjoying the flexibility of weekday weddings and will continue to consider different days for their wedding in the future. Couples are also welcoming the idea of separating their festivities for added flexibility, allowing them to have an intimate ceremony on one day, and a brunch or large dinner party the next.

    COLORFUL WEDDING SUITS

The more traditional all black suit is seeing a decline as couples are opting for a more fun and bold color for the groom’s outfit. For fall, we’re seeing deep burgundy and emerald greens. Groom’s getting married in spring are seen wedding in pastel blues, ivories, or soft pinks.

    YELLOW GOLD JEWELRY

In years past, white gold and platinum wedding bands were the popular wedding look. However, the more vintage look of gold jewelry is back for the foreseeable future. We are seeing a rise in couples desiring for the more traditional gold bands for their engagement rings and wedding bands.

    A FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY

More and more couples are prioritizing sustainability, frivolousness and wastefulness is a thing of the past. Brides are shopping secondhand for their dresses, couples are searching for recycled gold for their wedding bands. Continuing in 2022, we will see more vegan and inclusive meal options for receptions. Couples are also looking for ways to be zero waste, such as repurposing wedding florals, donating or reusing decor, and choosing vendors that align with their sustainable priorities and values.

    ASSIGNED SEATING

While open seating was becoming increasingly popular in previous years, we are seeing a shift as couples notice assigned seating is more of a comfort for guests. Unassigned seating was simpler for the couple, but guests prefer knowing where they should sit for dinner. Assigned seating also ensures families and close friends stay together and limits contact with guests outside of their social sphere.

    ELECTRONIC INVITES & LIVE STREAMING

While travel is still restricted, broadcasting weddings for faraway guests will continue to be the norm. Technology has been vastly improved over the pandemic allowing live streaming to truly flourish. Now, family members and friends from afar, or high risk guests can tune into and celebrate the event from everywhere.  Not only that, but the event would be watchable afterwards for guests that were unavailable the day of, as well as allow the couple to relive the day.

    FOCUSING ON WHAT’S IMPORTANT

The final lasting trend for 2022 is that couples are no longer fretting over the smaller, trivial aspects of their wedding. The past few years have put into perspective what really matters for the couple, and that is creating memorable moments with the special people in their life. Small decor items or details are no longer worth the stress in comparison to creating lasting experiences with loved ones.

  • START THE NEW YEAR OFF STRONG WITH THESE FOUR IMPORTANT STEPS

START THE NEW YEAR OFF STRONG WITH THESE FOUR IMPORTANT STEPS

In just a few short weeks, we will welcome in the year 2022. Some of us may be embracing it with open arms, ready to put 2021 behind us, while others are riddled with anxiety over the prospects of the upcoming year. Wherever you fall, there are steps you can take now to set your New Year up for success. No longer must we let the New Year simply happen to us, we can take the reins with confidence with these strategies.

DO A REVIEW OF THE PAST YEAR

The first step to moving forward is to do a thorough reflection on the year that’s passed.

First off, you will ask yourself what went well. Celebrating your wins is just as important as going over areas to improve. Write down 5-10 accomplishments or “wins” you have achieved this year and why they matter to you. This will show you truly all you have done this year and bolster your confidence for reaching next year’s goals.

Next, reflect on what didn’t go so well. Jot down any unmet goals or unfinished projects, as well as any losses or disappointments you’ve had over the past year. Then, you will record how you feel about each of these. This will help you measure if these are items you are eager to fix and work on, or if you are content to leave them be.

Lastly, you will want to record what you have learned. It’s important to remember that these lessons can be in any aspect of your life whether that be family, work, health, finances, and more. Write down at least 5 lessons you’ve learned this past year and how you will implement the necessary changes for the upcoming year. By recognizing and applying what you’ve learned you will ensure you’re always making progress.

    SET SMART GOALS

While it’s fun to make the traditional New Year’s Resolutions, they are often vague and unrealistic. In fact, studies show approximately 80% of New Year’s Resolutions fail. A better way to set goals is to set SMART goals.

    SMART goals are:

    S – Specific

    M – Measurable

    A – Attainable

    R – Realistic

    T – Timely

The resolution of “start healthier habits,” is destined to fail. Make specific goals such as “drink 8 cups of water a day,” or “put 20% of each paycheck into savings.” Being sure they are specific and measurable will help you know when they have been achieved.

Next, make sure the goals are attainable and realistic. For instance, it is not physically attainable to train for a marathon in one month, so setting that goal is setting yourself up for failure. Going one step further, make sure it is realistically attainable. Break your goals up into bite size pieces, so your confidence will grow as you reach each one. Following the running example, a realistic goal may be to start walking for 30 minutes each day.

Setting timely goals keeps them from being open ended and leading to procrastination. Give yourself a realistic timeframe with a set date so you know exactly what you’re working towards.

    DECLUTTER

A great way to start fresh in the New Year is to give your physical and digital spaces a thorough declutter. Messy spaces can affect our mental health and productivity, so it’s important not to let them get out of control. Donate unneeded items and give your home a refreshing clean.

Your digital spaces are just as if not more important than our physical ones. Delete old photos and do an inbox clear out. Log into your social media accounts and unfollow anyone toxic or brings up feelings of insecurity. You do not need these influences in the upcoming year.

For more tips, check out our comprehensive cleaning guide blog post.

    MAKE TRAVEL PLANS

Or, if you don’t like to travel, plan a staycation. Whichever way you like to relax, it’s important to plan this into your year ahead of time. Numerous studies have shown the positive effects vacations have on both your physical and mental health. From the decreased risk of heart disease and high blood pressure to depression and anxiety, the benefits are all-encompassing.

Not only that, but vacations will improve your motivation in your job and nurture your family relationships. Planning this ahead of time will ensure you have it set in your calendar and can notify your work. Not only that but planning itself may increase happiness. Some can experience an elevated mood up to eight weeks before the trip.

    WELCOME THE NEW YEAR

Taking these steps will set yourself up for success in all areas of your life. If the past year has been difficult or felt stagnant, hopefully, this list will better prepare you for the one ahead. You will be able to welcome the coming year with a new confidence that you’ve covered all your bases from refreshing your home to setting realistic goals, to planning much deserved downtime.

  • GIFT INSPIRATION FOR YOUR FIRST HOLIDAY TOGETHER AS A NEW MARRIED COUPLE

GIFT INSPIRATION FOR YOUR FIRST HOLIDAY TOGETHER AS A NEW MARRIED COUPLE

So, your first holiday as a newly married couple is approaching and you may be starting to search for the perfect gift to commemorate this day. Even though you have celebrated together before, the first holiday together after marriage is something special. Whether you’re looking for a gift for the sentimental spouse, or perhaps seeking ideas that may have been left off your registry, we’ve created this list with you in mind.

    PRINTED VOWS

Did you and your spouse share personal vows on your wedding day? Get these important and loving promises documented in a keep piece you can display for years to come. This set of prints from Etsy is a beautiful way to showcase your vows as wall art and would be the perfect intimate gift for your first holiday.

    DATE NIGHT BOOK

For the fun and adventurous couple, try gifting your spouse with this date night book. Packed with 35 unique date ideas, each one is hidden behind a scratch off. Once the idea is scratched off, the date idea must be attempted. This is a great way to keep date night exciting and new, and would make a fun first gift for your spouse.

    MATCHING PAJAMAS

Holiday pajamas are a classic, and matching ones are a must for your first holiday together. If you have a fur baby, feel free to include them and bundle up in your pj’s for your festivities. Don’t forget to take a family photo gathered up under the tree!

    GROOMING KIT

Skincare and spa kits can often be misconstrued as primarily for women, but men love to feel pampered too. If your spouse takes care of a beard, consider gifting him with a beard kit. It will make every shave day feel like a spa day, and he will be sure to feel special and cared for.

    JEWELRY

What would a holiday gift list be without this suggestion? A precious testament of love, a piece of jewelry is a perfect gift for your first holiday together. You could grab a piece he or she has been eyeing, or pick out a surprise. Along a similar vein, if your spouse works with their hands at their job and their wedding band is at risk of damage, you could gift him or her with a silicone wedding band. This wearable keeps your special wedding rings safe, while still allowing you to have the special symbol on your finger.

    APRON

If your spouse is the one who does most of the cooking, an apron is a thoughtful gift for the holidays. You could get one personalized, or go for one with many pockets and places to keep tools. This gift may be something your spouse would not have thought to get for themselves, but will be glad to have on hand when the daily task comes around.

    CARRY ON LUGGAGE

Perfect for the couple with plans of travel, gift an upgraded pair of carry on luggage bags for you and your spouse. Inside, you could include travel brochures of the place you two plan on visiting next, or mementos of places you’ve been before. Not only will it spark those dreams of travel when your spouse receives it, this gift is a practical one that will last years.

    WINE SET

For the spouse who enjoys quality time and a glass of wine, consider gifting a wine gift set. This gift set includes two bottles of wine and a rustic style cheese board. To use for date night, pair with your spouse’s favorite fruits and cheeses. This gift packs meaning as it is not just an item, but an avenue to nurture love and create memories together.

    PERSONALIZED DOORMAT

If you or your spouse has decided to change their name, consider displaying your new family name as you welcome visitors with this custom doormat. You can order it in various styles and sizes, ensuring it’s right for your home. This gift is a fun way to personalize your first home together and celebrate becoming a newly formed family.

    TOOL SET

This gift may be one that gets overlooked on the registry, but is a must have for a new home together. If your spouse is the handy type, they’re going to need a drill and tool set. Whether it’s to hang some shelves or fix a leaky faucet, the right tool is a must have in your home and this would be a much needed first holiday gift.

    WALL ART

If you’ve yet to decorate the walls of your home, consider gifting your spouse with a piece of wall art. This could be a piece from an artist or photographer they’re a fan of, or a shot of one of their favorite places. Another way to personalize the walls of your home is with photos of each other. Printed and framed photos of one of your favorite days, your wedding day, is a lovely first gift for your spouse.

    THE PERFECT GIFT

Finding the right gift for your spouse shouldn’t be stressful, but rewarding and fun. Don’t overthink it, and keep in mind your spouse loves you and will be grateful for anything they receive. It isn’t so much about the material things, but the love and care that went into choosing the gift for each other.

  • 6 DREAMY WEDDING DRESSES INSPIRED BY THE SEASON OF WINTER

6 DREAMY WEDDING DRESSES INSPIRED BY THE SEASON OF WINTER

Winter wedding planning comes with many choices for a couple to make from venues, to food, to drinks and music. A decision of utmost importance to many brides is the gown she will wear on her day. The variety of dress design can create an overwhelm, from lace to chiffon, a-line to mermaid, there are so many possibilities. And with the wedding falling in the winter, the bride may wonder how to incorporate the beauty of the season into her dress. If you’re looking for inspiration, you’re in the right place. This list has been compiled with six winter dress details to consider for many different types of brides and weddings.

    TURTLENECK DRESS

The time of year known for brisk weather brings the annual fashion trend of the turtleneck sweater. Adding this detail to your dress, as seen in this wedding dress from David’s Bridal, is a flattering testament to the season you’re marrying in. Vintage inspired, this mock neck gown showcases floral lace and cap sleeves with eyelash-trimmed scalloped detail. The dress is inclusively available in various sizes and body types, including petite, tall, plus, and tall plus.

    LONG SLEEVES

A classic way to bring the style of winter season into your gown is to add long sleeves. Not only does it protect your bare arms from the cool air, it showcases the sophistication of the season. This long-sleeved Riki Dalal Joan Gown from BHLDN is an off-white ivory color with a lace overlay and features a plunging v-neck. It’s brought in at the waist with a crystal belt and flows down into a gathered train. Available in sizes 0 to 16, this charming dress is perfect for the winter bride with a softer style while still staying cozy in the cold.

    BUTTON DETAIL

A romantic and classy detail to feature in your winter gown is a button enclosure. As shown in the Danea Bridal Gown by Azazie, it has white buttons clasped all the way to the train of the dress. The buttons cover the hidden zipper, which makes it much easier for the wearer to take on and off. The Danea gown has a sweetheart neckline with long sleeves and lace. This off-the-shoulder dress comes in three colorways and over ten sizes and can even be made custom at no extra cost.

    SATIN FINISH

The sheen of a satin finish is a romantic reflection of the gleam of a new fallen snow. Winter is arguably the most elegant season to wed in, and the cowl neck Elliat Aisle White Maxi Dress from Lulu’s is a timeless look that captures this elegance. Simple but distinguished, the Elliat is a sheath style and features faux buttons to conceal the zipper and clasp enclosure. It hugs the hips and falls longer in the back along a ruffled hem. It is available in sizes small to extra large and ships for free within the US.

    LONG TRAIN SKIRT

Winter is a striking season full of drama and passion, and what better way to encapsulate this than with a cathedral train like the one in this beaded mermaid dress by David’s Bridal. Featuring diamond patterned tulle, as well as lace and bead work, the faux plunging neckline is followed by a trumpet skirt and full cathedral train. The gown marries vintage and modern style and is available in three colors, many sizes, and can be ordered petite, tall, plus, or tall plus.

    GO DARING

Where’s the rulebook saying the bride must wear the expected white? Bring the moodiness, drama, and boldness of the cold winter months by wearing a black gown instead. In the Persephone Bridal Gown by Azazie, the black tulle and lace overlays either a white, champagne, or nude fabric creating dimension and interest. The heart shaped bodice is trimmed with velvet and meets a full ball-gown skirt. Available in many sizes and can even be custom made-to-order, this dress is a show of romance and mystery and is sure to turn heads.

    A DRESS TRUE TO YOU

Every bride is unique and deserves a dress true to herself and that makes her feel confident and beautiful on her wedding day. These suggestions are merely to inspire, not to limit or pressure a bride to wear a certain style in a certain season. The best way to find the dress right for you is to remove the limitations and try on as many styles that are of interest as possible. You may be surprised by the one that feels the most “you!”

  • THE ULTIMATE FALL/WINTER CLEANING GUIDE FOR A HEALTHY HOUSE AND MIND

THE ULTIMATE FALL/WINTER CLEANING GUIDE FOR A HEALTHY HOUSE AND MIND

Studies show there are more than just organizational benefits to a deeply cleaned home. Clean spaces are healthier for both your mind and body. While you may already do an annual spring cleaning, you may want to consider doing a deep clean this fall as well. With cooler weather comes cold and flu season, and bugs and dust can do a number on you especially if you already suffer from allergies. Luckily, this detailed cleaning guide can ensure your space is prepped and optimized for your health this coming season.

What can often get ignored is the effects your spaces have on your mental health. It is shown that cluttered spaces decrease productivity, and may increase feelings of depression and anxiety. Going to bed in a messy room can also negatively affect your quality of sleep.

Investing some time this season to clean and declutter your home can improve your mental and physical health. So as the cold and holiday season approaches, now is the perfect time to take a deep dive into your space and clear out the cobwebs (both literally and metaphorically). This guide is here to help you achieve just that.

    THE KITCHEN AND DINING SPACES

    • Start with the refrigerator, being sure to take everything out, and cleaning both the interior and door shelves. Throw out old food and unused condiments. Don’t forget to clean off the door handle and exterior.
    • Deep clean the oven and stovetop and consider pulling the oven away from the wall to sweep out the floor underneath.
    • Declutter unused kitchen utensils and/or appliances and clean out the cabinets.
    • Be sure to wipe up all nooks and crannies, including the baseboards.
    • Give your trash can a good scrub and refresh.
    • Shine up your sink. To remove rust marks, you can try out products such as Bar Keeper’s Friend.
    • Give your dining table and chairs some love. If you have a wood table, consider giving it a wax polish treatment. If your dining chairs are upholstered, spot treat any stains.

    THE LIVING SPACES

    • Most living spaces could use a good dust down, especially if anyone in the home suffers from allergies. Dust off lamps, tables, appliances, and even the ceiling fan if you have one.
    • Give the space a vacuum or two. Pull furniture away to get to those overlooked places. You may be surprised to find a lost item or two!
    • If your room has carpet or rug, go ahead and give it a shampoo. If you don’t own a carpet cleaner, you can always borrow one from a friend or family member or even rent one from a home improvement store.
    • If you have any display or storage shelves, remove the items and wipe down the shelves. Now is a great time to declutter any unused items or switch out the decor for seasonal items.

    THE BEDROOM SPACES

    • For the bedroom, repeat the tasks from your living space list. Dust shelves and ceiling fans, vacuum and shampoo rugs or carpet, and declutter any decor and storage shelves.
    • In addition, go ahead and strip down the bed and wash all bed linens according to the washing directions.
    • Clean out and declutter your nightstands, throwing out unused items.
    • Do a closet clean-out. To really slim down your closet, try on pieces you haven’t worn in a while to see if you still need and/or want to keep them. Donate any items of clothing you no longer wish to keep. This is also a good time to put away your spring and summer wardrobe and bring out your fall and winter clothes.

    THE BATHROOM SPACES

    • First up, throw your shower curtain and bath mats in the laundry.
    • While they wash, start a detailed declutter of the space. Get rid of expired items including medications as well as makeup, face, and hair products. Be honest with yourself over products that are still within date but have not had much use. For these, feel free to offer them to a friend or family member that may actually use them!
    • Wipe down the mirror, sink, and storage containers that hold items such as makeup brushes and toothbrushes.
    • Give the shower and bath a good scrub, removing any water and rust stains. Throw out any empty product containers.
    • Deeply clean and disinfect the toilet. Remove the toilet seat to clean every surface. Wipe the base and floor around the toilet.
    • Sweep and mop the floors, and replace the curtain and bath mats.

    THE MISCELLANEOUS SPACES

    • In the laundry, pull out the appliances to sweep and mop behind them. Vacuum off the dryer vent.
    • Change out your home’s air filters.
    • Declutter and reorganize the linen closet, getting rid of unused items.
    • Clean out and organize the coat closet.
    • If you haven’t in a while, replace the batteries in your smoke detectors.

    THE DIGITAL SPACES

A task that’s just as beneficial as tidying physical spaces but is often overlooked is a thorough cleanout of your digital spaces.

    • Go through and remove any unused applications from your devices.
    • Delete old messages and emails.
    • Consider removing toxic or discouraging accounts from your social media. While you may feel hesitant in doing so, this can greatly improve your experience on social media as well as your mental health. If you don’t want to permanently unfollow or unfriend someone, many platforms have the option to “mute” an account. By muting, you remain friends or followers of the account without having their posts and updates show up on your feed. Your social media feeds should be uplifting and inspiring, so feel free to make them so.

    A FRESH START FOR FALL/WINTER

Upon completion of this guide, you will hopefully begin to see benefits immediately. Cluttered spaces can drain us of motivation and inspiration, or worse, bring us anxiety or feelings of depression. For the health of everyone in the home, getting to those overlooked tasks and spaces is crucial. Now is as good of a time as ever to improve your space and health. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get to cleaning!

  • WHAT THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS SHOULD YOU START AS A NEWLY MARRIED COUPLE?

WHAT THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS SHOULD YOU START AS A NEWLY MARRIED COUPLE?

Holidays are approaching and as a new married couple, so come questions. You’re a newly formed family now, so you may start to wonder, “what will our holiday traditions be?” Don’t feel as if you’re limited to what your or your spouse’s family did for the holidays. Feel free to keep old traditions and start new ones. These annual festivities will create memories for years to come for both of you and future children if you choose to have them.

Need some ideas for traditions to start this Thanksgiving? This list is for you!

    VISIT FAMILY

The first thing you should decide as a couple when discussing the holidays is how you will spend time with extended family. There is no wrong answer here, as long as you and your spouse are happy with the arrangement.

You could choose to visit your family for one holiday and your spouse’s for the other, and vice versa every year. Or, perhaps you would want to extend each holiday over a few days to make sure to visit both of your families for each holiday every year. Another valid choice is to simply focus on your new family, and only visit your extended family every once in a while! Make whatever decision works best for both of you.

    WATCH MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE

Now that you know how you will spend each holiday in regards to family, it is time to decide what you will do together on that day each year. One tradition you could start is to turn on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It begins at 9 am in every timezone and ends at noon, streaming on NBC. It is a 2.5 mile parade in Manhattan. November 2021 will be Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade’s 95th year. The annual event was founded in 1925 and is nostalgic to many, so it is seen as a true start of the holiday season.

    RUN A TURKEY TROT

Want a fun way to get some activity in before your high caloric holiday meal? Join in on an annual Turkey Trot in your area. Founded in 1896 in Buffalo, New York, the Turkey Trot has grown into a nationwide event where people of all ages gather for a 5 mile race.

Because of the Turkey Trot, Thanksgiving beat the Fourth of July as the most popular day to run a race since 2015. It’s known for being family friendly, and a non-competitive race. Being a part of this race is sure to be a memorable tradition to start.

VOLUNTEER AT A SOUP KITCHEN OR DONATE TO A FOOD PANTRY

As the holiday is all about gratitude and acknowledging all we have to be grateful for, it is only natural to want to spend the day giving back. As a couple, you could volunteer at a soup kitchen. Or, since soup kitchens can get overrun on this particular day, you could plan for you and your holiday guests to collect canned and non-perishable goods throughout the month to donate to a food pantry.

    CREATE A GRATITUDE JAR

The idea of a gratitude jar is a year-long endeavor, starting again each year on Thanksgiving. A jar would be set aside somewhere in the home for each family member to write down something they’re thankful for at that moment.

The jar would collect these notes throughout the year and be cracked open on Thanksgiving. At dinner, they would be read aloud to reflect on all there was to be thankful for the past year.

    CREATE A THANKFULNESS TABLECLOTH

A thankfulness tablecloth is a similar gesture to the gratitude jar. The tradition would start with a light colored tablecloth brought out each year on Thanksgiving. On the tablecloth, each attendee would sign the fabric with their name and something they’re thankful for with a permanent marker. The tablecloth would serve as a time capsule for many years of Thanksgivings together.

    TAKE A COUNTRYSIDE DRIVE

After bellies are full and a relaxing evening ensues, another tradition to start could be to climb into the car for an evening drive. If the weather allows, crack open the windows, and take in the sights of the color changing leaves.

This a great time to have quality, uninterrupted conversation with your spouse and family. You can discuss family members’ wins and goals achieved over the year, and of course everything there is to be grateful for.

END THE NIGHT WITH BOARD GAMES

After some relaxing and perhaps even an afternoon nap, you could decide to end your Thanksgiving night with some fun. Pull out the board games, or stick to the classics like cards or charades. Memories of laughter and fun with your spouse and family are sure to last a lifetime.

    ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS

There are so many ways to spend the holidays with your loved ones, and multiple different traditions you can start as a new married couple. Just remember the most important thing you can prioritize is quality time spent with one another, and being thankful you have each other. Everything else is simply for fun and memories! Hopefully, this list will have given you ideas to create a holiday filled with love and laughter for many years to come.

  • AT HOME FALL ACTIVITIES

    AT HOME FALL ACTIVITIES

As fall begins to bring in colder weather, families will start to tuck themselves inside in anticipation for winter. With colder weather also comes cold and flu season, and families may decide to choose to stay in over going out to gatherings and events.

Whatever the reason, if your family is spending most of the season at home, you still don’t have to miss out on fall activities. If you’re looking for inspiration on how to bring all of the joy of autumn into your home, look no further. You’re sure to find an idea that will bring you and yours closer together this year’s season.

    BAKE TOGETHER

One activity that can bring the whole family together and yield an awesome snack is to gather up in the kitchen and bake a loaf of homemade bread. Even if you’ve never tried your hand at baking bread, this beginner bread recipe is for bakers of all experience levels.

All you need is bread flour, instant yeast, salt, and water! Four ingredients, and you can bake the loaves with or without a dutch oven. This recipe is sure to be a winner, and you can add seasonings or cheese to make any flavor you like. Or, consider topping the slices with apple butter to get the taste of the season.

If you’re going to bake with kids, don’t be afraid to let them get their hands dirty! This will be a great learning experience about how to measure and mix ingredients, as well as a great memory for them. It may even become a new family tradition!

    CRAFT YOUR OWN FALL DECOR

If you and your kiddos want to get creative, consider DIY-ing your very own fall decor!

For this recommended craft you’ll need clay, a large leaf, an exacto knife, and an oven safe bowl. With these items you will create your own autumn leaf tray!

Roll out the clay into a flat sheet, then press the leaf into the clay. Here, you are stamping the shape and pattern of the leaf veins.

If your kids are joining you in this craft, make sure they just watch this next step. Use the exacto knife to cut the clay out into the exact shape of the leaf.

Lastly, drape and mold the leaf over a large bowl, pattern facing down. It’ll bake in this shape according to the clay’s directions, leaving you with a rounded tray in the shape of a leaf! Feel free to paint or decorate your tray however you like.

For video directions and more DIY ideas, check out Lone Fox’s YouTube video titled “DIY FALL DECOR You Actually Want To Make!”

    CHEESE AND WINE NIGHT

This idea is more for couples who’d like to tuck in for a romantic evening. Set up some blankets and pillows on the floor or on the couch for a cheese and wine date night.

If you’ve never built yourself a charcuterie board, now is the time to try. Cut up your favorite cheeses and meats, grab some crackers, grapes and berries, and add nuts like pecans and walnuts. For a taste of bruschetta, stack a grape tomato, basil leaf, and mozzarella pearl along a toothpick, and drizzle it with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Pair the charcuterie board with your favorite wine, and cuddle up for a fall movie. Put on a romance like When Harry Met Sally (1989) or Silver Linings Playbook (2012). For some nostalgia or if kiddos are joining you, put on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982) or Disney’s Coco (2017).

    DIY FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT

Have a couple of trees with color changing leaves in your backyard? Use them as the backdrop for a family photo shoot! Coordinate a dress code for your family, perhaps by choosing a fall color or dressing in flannel. Whatever the theme, gather outside to take some seasonal photos.

Before you get the whole family outside for pictures, get some pose ideas ahead of time. You can find inspo on Pinterest or Instagram to have a plan of action before you begin. Feel free to get some more natural candid shots as well! Those often turn out to be the family favorites.

Of course, if you have one, you can set up a tripod and a fancy camera. However, a smartphone and a way to prop it up works just as well! Utilize the self timer to set up the shot and join the photo before it’s taken.

Photos are a great way to hold fast to memories. You can either use them to post on social media, send to family, or even have them printed for you and your loved ones!

    HOST A “FRIENDSGIVING”

If you don’t want to leave home, but would like to bring the social event to you, consider hosting a potluck “friendsgiving.” It is a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving with your peers or other family friends.

Each person brings one part of the meal: the appetizer, the sides, the main dish, the desserts, and the drinks. Feel free to get creative and go outside of the box from the traditional holiday fare.

Get together and feast up, and don’t forget to play games and dance. This is a great way to extend the holiday season beyond the day you spend with your close family!

MAKE YOUR OWN PUMPKIN SPICED LATTE

If you always stop by your favorite coffee shop to get your favorite PSL, consider making the classic fall drink right at home! This pumpkin spiced latte recipe is made with strong coffee that you can brew right at home, so no espresso is required.

Most of the ingredients you will already have on hand. You just need milk (dairy or non-dairy), sugar (you can also use honey or maple syrup), coffee (brewed for a strong taste), and vanilla extract for the base. Then, for the pumpkin flavor, you’ll need pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice.

This warm drink will bring the popular taste of fall right to your home and is sure to be a new go-to recipe!

    FALL INDOORS

Hopefully, this has given you the encouragement that you can enjoy all the joy and warmth this season brings. Whether that’s by crafting with your children, enjoying a romantic night in with your significant other, or hosting a potluck with close friends!8 You can take advantage of the season all within the comfort of your own home.

  • The Best Halloween Costumes Of 2021

The Best Halloween Costumes Of 2021

It’s the most wonderful and spooky time of the year! Halloween is right around the corner and it’s time to look in the back of your closet for your Halloween costume of 2021! Whether you’re going to DIY, buy it from Amazon, or rely on your makeup skills, you need to decide who you’re going to transform into. The faster you decide the better!

    via GIPHY

    Women’s Costumes

When you want to be original and stand on your own, you need a shiny and sparkly costume. One that will let everyone at the Halloween party know that you’re a star.

    Cruella And Other Disney Villains

Cruella is a hot costume this year because of her new Disney movie! The color pallet of red, white, and black was practically made for Halloween. Plus, there’s a few different versions of the costume for you to choose from. You can be a sexy Cruella, a formal Cruella, or any Cruella in between.

All of the other Disney villains are fair game too! Their costumes are always available, and they never get old.

Paris Hilton Or Another Y2K Queen

Paris Hilton and other Y2K queens, like Britney Spears, are going to be trending for the next few years. The style trends of the 2000’s is coming back into fashion, and everyone is going to bring those trends to their costumes. It’s also a super fun throwback!

    Classics

When in doubt, the classic angel, devil, cowgirl, or animal costume is always the right answer. They’re great options for do it yourself costumes and a lot of them rely heavily on makeup that you already own. It’s not hard to find a fun and unique twist that will make your classic costume memorable and fresh!

    Couple’s Costumes

Couple’s costumes can be a bit tricky. Mostly because you have to convince your partner to wear it! These costumes are the perfect mix of trendy and fun. You and your partner are guaranteed to have an amazing time if you dress up as one of these dynamic duos.

    Wanda And Vision

This couples costume is going to be HUGE this year! WandaVision was a massive hit when it premiered this year. Everyone fell in love with Wanda and Vision’s relationship. This is going to be one of the hottest costumes of the year. Even though it will be popular, you’re sure to win best costume if you get the makeup and costumes right!

    Cosmo And Wanda

Lots of Wanda’s on this list! This one is a bit more of a classic throwback. Any millennial knows exactly who Cosmo and Wanda are, but if you’re not sure, Google the TV show The Fairly OddParents. They’re two cartoon fairies. Wanda is pink and Cosmo is green. All you need to get is wings, wigs, and wands! Everything else is probably in your closet.

    Joker And Harley Quinn

Yes, I know. Joker and Harley have been popular for a while now. Still, the new Suicide Movie came out this year and there will be a resurgence of Harley Quinn costumes! To stand out, stay away from the modern version of this couple. Instead, go for the vintage Joker and Harley that everyone recognizes and loves.

    Group Or Family Costumes

Group costumes are the hardest part about Halloween. They require a ton of coordination and cooperation. Plus, you should do your best to make sure they work on their own. After all, you won’t be standing by your group all night! Here are some new and classic options for this year’s group costume.

    Squid Game And Among Us

These are the ultimate group costumes for this year. Among Us started our year and Squid Game is ending it. They’re the easiest costumes to find, make, and coordinate. All that’s required is a specific color palate, a hoodie, and maybe some construction paper. It couldn’t be easier or more comfortable. I mean, it doesn’t get any better than jeans and a hoodie.

    Marvel Characters

Marvel characters can be single, couple, or group costumes, but they’re better in a group! How awesome would it be to roll up to the Halloween party as the Avengers? So many new marvel movies and shows have come out in the past year, and the new releases keep the costumes fresh.

This group costume has another perk. It’s like a never ending costume. If you have a huge group it’s perfect. You can be the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and every villain in the Marvel universe. I swear, there are hundreds of costumes in this category.

    Classics

It wouldn’t be a Halloween costume list without some classic group costumes. My personal favorite is the Wizard of Oz, but you can also be the cast of mean girls, powerpuff girls, or the power rangers. There’s no wrong answer when it comes to group costumes. Any tv show, movie, or musical can become a great group costume!

    What Not To Wear

Finally, let’s talk about the costumes you should avoid at all costs. Let’s start with the obvious. Stay away from any offensive or culturally appropriated costumes. This includes indigenous peoples head dresses, anything that could be seen as black face, transphobic costumes, objectifying costumes, or body shaming costumes.

There’s one more type of costume that unfortunately needs to be added to this list, and that’s any costume that has a COVID or pandemic theme. I hate that this has to be said, but I’ve already seen a few COVID themed costumes. I’m not sure pandemic costumes will ever be appropriate, but I know it’s currently too soon.

    via GIPHY

    Happy Halloween!

Now that all that icky stuff is out of the way, it’s time to have a happy Halloween! Get creative with your costume. Add your own special twist to a classic or come up with something completely unique. The goal is to have a lot of fun while pretending to be someone else for a night, or a weekend. Stay safe, be spooky, and make sure you take an Uber!
