YOU’LL LOVE THESE SIX FRESH AND BRIGHT SPRING RECIPE RECOMMENDATIONS

When it comes to fall food, we think warm, hearty, comfort food like pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and lush soups. Now, with spring upon us, it’s time to change up our menus. With spring we think cooler flavors, brightness, and citrus tastes. For your ease, we’ve picked out some of the best recipes that remind us of all things spring and freshness. This list includes a recipe for each meal of the day, from breakfast to dinner, and even a dessert drink.

    CRANBERRY OATMEAL BARS

These easy breakfast bars are the perfect grab and go for spring. Those warmer areas will love that they can keep the oven off for this one, as these bars are no bake! They are a healthy alternative to those packaged granola bars, and are also vegan and gluten-free.

For this recipe, you’ll need quick-cooking oats, chia seeds, agave or maple syrup, and dried cranberries. Alternatively you can swap out the cranberries for your favorite dried fruit such as dried blueberries or even raisins. After a quick heating up of oil, nut butter and agave, you’ll mix the wet ingredients with the dry, and press them tightly into an 8×8 pan. Let it sit in the refrigerator overnight, then pull out of the container and cut into easy-to-grab bars. Keep in the fridge for easy breakfast all week, or freeze for up to one month!

    GREEK COUSCOUS SALAD

This bright, tasty, and veggie filled salad is full of bright colors and flavors for spring. This salad comes together in under an hour and is perfect for a week of meal prep lunches. The protein in this salad comes from both chickpeas and chicken, but to make it vegan simply leave out the chicken and feta cheese. To make it gluten-free, swap out the couscous for some brown rice. This recipe allows for multiple swaps or customizations for your preferences or dietary needs.

For this recipe you’ll need Israeli or pearled couscous, chicken, chickpeas, cucumbers and other veggies, parsley, feta, and a homemade dressing. This salad also has no need for the oven, and only requires cooking for the chicken. For a completely no-cook method, grab a premade rotisserie chicken from the store. Simply chop the veggies and herbs, and toss everything together in a large mixing bowl. You can serve as a meal immediately, or separate into meal prep containers for easy no-heat lunches all week.

    SPRINGTIME PASTA BAKE

This dinner recipe is for those who still want a warm and comforting meal while incorporating the tastes of spring. This pasta bake has a light and veggie filled sauce and features spring’s asparagus and zucchini. Alternatively, you can use other quick cooking springy veggies like snap peas or green beans. To make this dish vegan, you’ll need to omit the cheese or use a vegan cheese alternative. To make it gluten free, simply use a gluten free pasta.

For this recipe, you will heat and blend the sauce ingredients, and then cook the pasta according to its package instructions. In a separate pan, you’ll fry up the chopped asparagus and zucchini until soft. Then, combine all parts, top with cheese, and bake for warm pasta goodness.

    CUCUMBER DILL SALAD

This quick, six ingredient side salad showcases all of that bright tanginess of spring. It has the sharper flavors coming from dill and vinegar, and has crisp freshness coming from cucumbers and red onion. For the marinade, you’ll just need vinegar, dill, sugar and salt. This recipe is naturally vegan and gluten free!

For easier and even slicing, you can use a mandolin slicer. If you don’t have this tool in your kitchen, simply chop them the old fashioned way. You’ll only need about one fourth of an onion in this salad, and you’ll want to peel the cucumbers unless you like extra crunch. Serve this fresh salad as a side to some grilled chicken or salmon for a complete meal.

    LEMON CAKE

We know it’s easy to miss the days of pumpkin bread and banana bread on a brisk winter night, but no fret. This lemon cake is a great spring replacement for you. The recipe creates a tart, moist and warm cake to have as a side to your dinner or as an after-meal treat.

In addition to all the classic baking ingredients, for this cake you’ll need buttermilk, vanilla extract, lemon zest and lemon juice. This recipe may take a few more steps to come together, but the labor is worth it. While the cake is baking in the oven, you’ll whip up a sweet glaze made of confectioner’s sugar and lemon juice that you’ll drizzle over the top of the baked loaf.

    STRAWBERRY LIME SLUSH DRINK

If you love those fruity slushies from the convenience store but would like something less artificial and sweet, you’ll love this strawberry slush drink recipe. These drinks come together easily in the blender and are very kid friendly topped with sparkling water. For an adult only variation, you can top with champagne! This bright fun drink is sure to be a hit for the upcoming warm spring days.

This recipe is vegan and gluten free as is. It only includes five ingredients: frozen strawberries, lime juice (or lemon juice if you prefer), raw honey or other liquid sweetener, mint leaves, and sparkling water (or champagne for an adult only option). Simply blend the first four ingredients together to make the strawberry slush. Store in the fridge until you’re ready to serve, then top with sparkling water.

  • 8 IDEAS FOR GETTING OUTSIDE AND ACTIVE THIS SPRING SEASON

8 IDEAS FOR GETTING OUTSIDE AND ACTIVE THIS SPRING SEASON

We’re waving goodbye to the cold brisk months, and embracing the warm weather ahead! With the temperatures increasing, the option to spend more time outside becomes available to us. The past few months have kept us bundled up inside, so you may be itching to get out and explore the great outdoors.

If you’re at a loss as to what to do first, we’ve compiled a list of fun outdoor activities. These suggestions are for adults, although you could bring your kiddos along as well. They can be enjoyed by yourself or with your significant other!

    START A GARDEN

While this idea may take the most amount of work, we also think it would be the most rewarding. Starting a garden in your own backyard can yield for yourself beautiful greenery and delicious vegetables. If you’re a beginner, no worries, you can still grow a successful garden. The easiest beginner friendly plants to choose from are lots of leafy greens such as spinach, salad greens, and basil. Another easier veggie to grow is a zucchini, although it does need a lot of space in your backyard.

If you do decide to take on this venture, start planning now. A well thought out garden is more likely the successful one. If you start small, do your research, and set reminders to tend to your garden, you’ll have fresh produce in no time.

    GO FISHING

For a relaxing day out in the sun, pull out your fishing rods and get out on the water. If you don’t have a place for public fishing near you, you may want to travel and make it a day trip. Make sure you find a location that allows public fishing, and research the appropriate bait for the types of fish in your area.

The key here is to be patient, as most of the day is to be spent waiting. The benefit to this activity is that the goal is to have a day in the fresh air, to relax and let your mind wander. If you bring a friend or significant other, then it’s a great time to have deep conversation. Bonus points if you end up catching something!

    CAMP UP

This suggestion is a multi-day or at least overnight one. As the weather warms up, those with an adventurous spirit may enjoy a mini camping trip. You can find public designated camping grounds that may have amenities such as restrooms and fresh water. These sites may even allow you to reserve a space, or be on a first come first serve basis.

If you’re more of an introvert or recluse, then you can scout out a dispersed camping spot. These spots can be found in national or state parks. They will likely offer privacy and amazing fews of surrounding nature, but will be without facilities and water, so you will need to be more prepared. A few camping must-haves are waterproof clothing, fire starters, a portable camping stove, and a camera for the keepsakes!

    TRIP TO THE ZOO

Take a trip to a local zoo to meet all its cute and exotic animals. This idea is fun for adults and children alike. No two trips are the same! For this venture, you’ll definitely want comfortable shoes, some water, and a non-flash camera to catch all those cute animal moments.

    TAKE ON A NATURE HIKE

If you want to get out into the great outdoors, but don’t have the time or equipment for camping, find a nearby route and take a nature hike instead! Like with camping, make sure you have all the hiking essentials: lots of water, hiking shoes, sunscreen, and a snack.

If you’re new to hiking or the area, we’d definitely suggest choosing a beginner’s hiking route and bringing your spouse or a friend. Nevertheless, this adventure is a great way to be amongst nature and in the fresh air, while putting yourself up for a challenge.

    HAVE A PICNIC

This option is fun and allows for more spontaneity, and that is to have a spring picnic. You can visit a local park or nearby public gardens that will be filled with fresh blooms and lots of fields to picnic on. As for food, we recommend packing the food and drink in a stable cooler, and filling the pretty picnic basket with other picnic items.

The easiest foods for a picnic would be sandwiches, fruits, and snacks. Other essentials would be thick blankets, silverware and glasses, sunscreen, and some wet wipes for easy clean up. Of course, bring your spouse and/or children to enjoy the day with.

    HOST A FLOWER PHOTOSHOOT

If you haven’t taken some couple or family photos in a while, take advantage of the new blooming flowers of spring and have a photoshoot. In most areas, you can find a field of wildflowers near you that would be the perfect spot for some romantic shots. Alternatively, you can find a local park or local garden for your photo backdrop.

You can make it a casual affair and snap some candids with your smartphone, or make it a professional event with a hired photographer and styled outfits. Whatever you choose, you will have captured memories while getting outside and amongst the warm weather.

    GO GOLFING

Another idea for spending the day outside is to try your hand at a round of golf. You and your spouse can head to a golf course and spend the day honing your skills. Or, for a kid friendly (or inexperienced golfer) option, you can simply find a nearby sports park and play putt-putt. Whatever you choose, this would sure to be a fun way to get outside while playing a game and getting exercise!

  • HOW TO PICK OUT THE PERFECT GUEST OUTFIT FOR ALL YOUR UPCOMING SPRING WEDDINGS

HOW TO PICK OUT THE PERFECT GUEST OUTFIT FOR ALL YOUR UPCOMING SPRING WEDDINGS

Wedding season is upon us! As the invites start dropping into your mailbox, you may be staring at your closet wondering how you will dress for all of these events. No worries! We have some inspo for styles to consider, as well as different ways to get your dresses for these events. So, put away that three-year-old outfit collecting dust in the back of your closet, and take a look at some of our best styles to try this spring.

    Source: Revolve

    WEAR BOLD ORANGE AND BLUSH

For this season, we’re seeing orange and pink hues in satin and tulle material as a trend. Sport one of these colors and you’ll be sure to turn heads. Other colors to consider for spring 2022 are baby blue, sage green, and baby pink. Just make sure to not match the bridal party, and as always, stay away from white!

    Source: ZARA

    PICK FLORAL PATTERNS

What better way to showcase the season of blooms than to choose a floral patterned dress? You can choose an understated look with a delicate pattern and pale hues or, for some more fun, opt for a bold chunky pattern and loud colors. Whatever suits your personality and is appropriate for the event! Floral dresses are very versatile and come in many styles. You can opt for a mini sundress for the more casual affair, or a floor-length off-the-shoulder gown for those black tie events.

    SPORT A JUMPSUIT

Not a skirt or gown kind of girl? Sport a jumpsuit to your spring wedding event. The cut of this outfit is extremely versatile and allows for many options for accessories and comfort. For bags, you can pair a jumpsuit with a cross-body bag or clutch. Strut into your event in either flats or heels.

Jumpsuits can easily be formal enough for a wedding by way of fabric or style. Opt for a classy fabric such as velvet or chiffon, and choosing one that will tie or cinch at your waist will show off your figure. We think the jumpsuit is a great idea for cooler spring weddings with the full leg coverage and the ease of pairing a cover up, such as a cardigan or, our favorite choice, a blazer.

    Source: Anthropologie

    CHOOSE A SKIRT

Some people may think a skirt is not appropriate for a wedding, but depending on the location and the nature of the event, we think it could be a great choice. For the casual afternoon wedding, you could easily pair a long floral skirt with a button-down and look great. For more formal events, choose a long pleated skirt with an off-the-shoulder top. This option allows for more versatility, so you can wear it to multiple events while changing your top and accessories to create an entirely new look. It also makes restroom trips much simpler, which is a win in our book.

    DRESS UP A SUNDRESS

Now, what if it’s not in the budget to fork over hundreds for new wedding outfits for every event this season? We have some budget-friendly ideas for you. One option is to pull out that spring sundress from the back of your closet and dress it up until it’s wedding appropriate. Pair it with heels and panty hoes for a refined look, and add a fancy clutch or bag. One way to make the outfit look more expensive is to color coordinate the accessories. Match the earrings to your clutch bag and even your heels and no one will give your sundress a second thought.

    Source: Rent the Runway

    RENT A DRESS

This option is not only affordable, but it’s fun, accessible, and sustainable. You can rent your wedding guest dress via a rental clothing shop such as Rent The Runway. These shops feature hundreds of different dresses and styles, and they come in a variety of inclusive sizes. You receive your rental a day or two before your event, and then simply send it back when you’re done with it, all for a reasonable price. They even take care of the dry cleaning for you. Most of these companies keep these clothes from ending up in landfills, so it’s definitely a sustainable option if this is a value of yours!

    DRESS SWAP WITH A FRIEND

Our final budget saving idea is to simply swap outfits with a friend. If you have a gal pal who’s similar in size and also has an array of events to attend, see if you two can swap outfits. This way, you can save money without having to wear the same dress to every wedding you’re invited to. This can be a fun way to change up your closet and introduce yourself to new styles without breaking the bank. Dress swapping is also very sustainable as no needless purchases are being made by your or your friend! It’s a win-win all around.

  • HOW TO STAY COMFORTABLE AND TRENDY DURING THE TRANSITION FROM WINTER TO SPRING

HOW TO STAY COMFORTABLE AND TRENDY DURING THE TRANSITION FROM WINTER TO SPRING

As we transition from winter and into spring, the weather changes may make our wardrobes end up a little confused. While it’s still too cold for tank tops and sandals, it’s far too warm to bundle up in thick sweaters and boots anymore. So, stuck on what to wear? We’ve come up with styles that are as practical for the season as they are fashionable. Here’s some inspo on appropriate wear for the temperatures while still staying on trend.

    THE PALE PANT

To keep your legs covered but to brighten things up for the season of spring, swap out your thick and dark colored denim for some light colored pants. Try a pastel blue, or a pale yellow, like these pants from Everlane. This is the color soybean, and these high waisted pants are made with organic cotton. They come cropped at the ankle, which is perfect for some airflow in these rising temps. This pair of pants also come in the springy colors of aqua and lavender.

    THE LOAFER

While it’s still too cold to bust out the handy slip-on sandals and a bit too warm to keep wearing our combat boots, we think the loafer shoe is a classy middle ground. This shoe is sturdy, on trend, and can dress up outfits that we don’t want to pair with sneakers. We think this Joleen Chunky Loafer from Altar’d State is the perfect shoe for the winter-to-spring transition. The white color brightens up our outfit, but the coverage keeps our feet warm while we wait for the weather to heat up.

    THE CARDIGAN

The cardigan is the pinnacle article of clothing for a winter to spring transition. It’s a knitted sweater with an open feature allowing airflow for maximum comfort in these not-warm but not-cold temperatures. When paired with dresses or t-shirts, it also allows for removal on those unexpected warmer days.

We love the versatility of a cardigan and always have one on hand for the season, such as this cropped cardigan from Lulu’s. This cardigan is lighter weight and cropped at the waist, making it even more appropriate for springy temps. We love the puff sleeve detail, perfect for the delicate vibes of spring blooms.

    THE MAXI DRESS

Love the fun loving, free flowing nature of a sundress in spring and summer? Opt for a warmer version with the maxi dress! The maxi dress is a dress with a skirt that falls down to the ankle or foot, giving enough leg coverage to protect against any cooler temps. This maxi dress from Lulu’s is giving us major sunset vibes with a cinched waist and spaghetti straps. Perfect to wear as is for warmer days, or paired with a cardigan on brisker ones.

    THE PAPER BAG PANT

The paper bag pant is an ultra high waist pant, most of the time with a cinched tie detail. We think these pants are a must for spring, as they are comfortable and flowing on the legs, while still offering the coverage we need. They come in all sorts of colors, and opting for lighter ones will brighten up our wardrobe for the upcoming season.

These Jacquard Tie-Waist Pants from Madewell are the perfect example. These slouchy pants offer maximum comfort and style with its herringbone pattern feature. Madewell even has a matching turtleneck top we think would create a statement outfit for the weather!

    THE BLAZER

Need to cover your arms but don’t want a big bulky coat? We think a button-up blazer is the perfect solution. It’s got a classy vibe, but can easily be dressed down with jeans and sneakers. It’s versatile and fashionable. You can always go for a neutral colored blazer, but we think a fun color or pattern is perfect for the change in weather. This Textured Weave Blazer from Zara comes in this gorgeous sky blue color. It has this fun woven texture, with an embossed metal button closure.

    THE CLOG

The clog is a versatile shoe, and we love its ease of wear with its slip-on nature. These shoes are perfect as the weather warms, as it has an exposed heel but a closed toe. These tan Alma Clogs from Free People are perfect for this season. They are made of leather with a wooden platform and feature a buckle strap. This is the “Oatmeal” colorway, which we love as a neutral option, but this shoe also comes in other fun colors such as “Blush Suede” and “Orange.”

    THE TOTE BAG

The tote bag just screams “warm weather is approaching.” It’s got a fun, beachy vibe, while being a practical item for storage. We love this Woven Straw Market Tote from J. Crew for this. It’s made from natural straw, and features a tapered look with its wider opening. Perfect for storing your wallet and cardigan for a day of shopping, or a beach towel and book for the warmer days ahead.

  • 7 WAYS TO CELEBRATE AS NEWLYWEDS TO HAVE A FESTIVE ST. PATRICK’S DAY

7 WAYS TO CELEBRATE AS NEWLYWEDS TO HAVE A FESTIVE ST. PATRICK’S DAY

As we welcome March it means spring is finally upon us, we’re transitioning out of winter, and more importantly: the famous Shamrock shake from McDonald’s is back. If you’re newly married, you may be wondering how you can celebrate March’s festive holiday with your significant other. While St. Patrick’s day may not be known for romance, there are plenty of fun ways to celebrate with your new spouse this year. We’re here to share a few ideas to consider so you can have the best first St. Patty’s day together.

VISIT A ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE OR FESTIVAL

Depending on your state, you may have a large St. Patrick’s Day Parade near you. However, no matter where you are, there’s probably some sort of festivity taking place locally! Dress up in green, drink festive drinks, and meet new folks in your area. Many parades will feature marching bands, floats, dancing, and music. This is probably the most exciting way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with your significant other. If you two are social butterflies and love big events, check out a parade or festival near you this year.

    CHECK OUT A LOCAL PUB

What better way to celebrate this Irish tradition than with locally made beer? Head over to your nearest city to find a local pub. Most likely, the bars will be holding some sort of festivities whether it be fancy drinks, or live music. This is a great way to get out of the house in a more lowkey way, and enjoy holiday drinks together.

    BAKE GREEN PANCAKES OR CUPCAKES

Is going out not your thing? Stay in, and bake some holiday treats. If you’re breakfast people, whip up your favorite pancake recipe and throw in a couple drops of green food coloring. You could take it one step further and add mint flavors or green candies such as green M&Ms!

If you’d rather bake a dessert, make green cupcakes. Either go the food coloring route, or to be fancier, try making matcha cupcakes. Matcha is a naturally green powder made from ground green tea leaves. The subtle flavors taste amazing in baked goods, and its natural color makes this a no-brainer on the day of the Irish!

    KISS ME, I’M IRISH

This St. Patrick’s Day tradition is as historical as it is fun. It is said that a lucky stone was built into Blarney Castle in Ireland, and that kissing this stone can give the kisser some of that luck. Well, now it is believed that kissing someone Irish is the next best thing, hoping that someone in their ancestry has kissed this lucky stone themselves. Irish or not, give your spouse a smooch this St. Patrick’s Day, and you’ll both be sure to feel some of that good luck!

    HAVE AN IRISH MOVIE MARATHON

If you’d like to have a more lowkey holiday while still celebrating in some way, try having an Irish movie marathon. That way, you can learn more about the culture and traditions all while in the comfort of your own home. Not sure what movies to watch? We have a couple of suggestions to get you started.

The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) is a take on Ireland’s War of Independence in 1920 and the following Civil War. It follows two brothers played by Cillian Murphy and Pádraic Delaney, who are on the opposite sides of the Civil War and in their ideas of how they believe Ireland should be. This action drama shows the brutality of civil war as well as shows us the Irish perspective of these historical events.

For a more lighthearted Irish movie, try Brooklyn (2015). This romantic drama stars Saoirse Ronan, as Eilis, a young woman who leaves her hometown in Ireland to strive for her greater ambitions and moves to Brooklyn, New York. There, she begins a new life, and meets a new love. However, when she must return home for an emergency, she becomes torn between two loves and two countries.

    FIND A FOUR LEAF CLOVER

Want to catch some good luck? Have you and your spouse compete to find the elusive four leaf clover! This is a classic way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, when it’s known for the bright green shamrocks. You could even press or dry out each year’s finds, and create a scrapbook keepsake for this annual hunt. This idea would be made even better with kids, but is nonetheless a fun tradition.

  • DON’T FORGET THESE IMPORTANT STEPS WHEN PREPPING YOUR HOME FOR SPRING 2022

DON’T FORGET THESE IMPORTANT STEPS WHEN PREPPING YOUR HOME FOR SPRING 2022

Springtime is coming! For many, this means fresh blooms, green growing grass, warmer temperatures, and more sunshine. However, it also means it’s time to clear out the winter, and prepare your home for spring. If you’re unsure where to start, you’re in the right place! We’ve compiled tips and easy-to-forget tasks to help you fully prep and welcome the oncoming season.

    REPLACE YOUR AIR FILTERS

While spring does bring all the aforementioned benefits, it also brings on pollen and allergy season. For general home upkeep, but also out of consideration for anyone who suffers with allergies in your home, be sure to replace every air filter in the house. After you do so, give each room a thorough dusting, going into all the nooks and crannies. Your home will feel fresh and your air will be cleaner!

    DEEP CLEAN YOUR GRILL

What does springtime mean, if not backyard barbecues? To prepare for the outdoor cookouts, pull out the grill and give it a good clean. Your previous season of cooking can create a build up of carbon deposits that ruin the look and function of your grill, as well as stick to grease and sauces while harboring bacteria.

To clean, you won’t want to use any harsh chemicals that will transfer onto your food, but rather a grease-cutting dish soap, and a baking soda and vinegar mixture. You’ll want to use the grill’s heat to burn off remnants of food, soak the grill parts, and give it a good scrub. Once you give it a thorough cleaning, you’ll be ready to host and cook away!

    CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARMS

This practice is crucial for a matter of safety, and something you will want to do regularly. Test your smoke alarms, and replace any needed batteries. This task should not be overlooked and as warmer temperatures are coming, in some locations housefires can be a legitimate concern. Take care of it in about 10 minutes before this spring season!

    CLEAR OUT YOUR GUTTERS

Over the fall and winter, leaves, sticks, and other debris can build up in your home’s gutters. For maintenance and to have a fresh start for spring, go ahead and get them cleared out. That way, you won’t have to worry about unnecessary clogging or damages as the year goes on.

    SWAP OUT YOUR BEDDING

Winter bedding often means thick, wool and fleece fabrics and multiple blankets to bundle up from the cold. For a good night’s sleep in the oncoming warmer nights, you’ll want to swap out winter’s heavier bedding.

Nice lightweight bedding could be jersey, thin cotton, or linen sheets. Replace your fluffy throw blankets for something thin and sheer. Also think about colors! Brighten the space by choosing pale or pastel colors in your bedding.

    EXCHANGE YOUR HOME SCENTS

The smells of pine, apple, and cinnamon may be very comforting in the winter months, but they’re not the scents associated with spring. To bring in the familiar fragrance of springtime, find floral scents like lavender and rose. Or, if floral isn’t your favorite, go with citrus, eucalyptus, or mint!

    PREP YOUR CLOSET

This one is a no-brainer: it’s time to swap out your wardrobe. Pack up your sweaters and heavy cardigans. Put away your boots and all your thick pants you can’t wear in warm weather. If you wear color palettes associated with the seasons, then pick out your dark, jewel toned clothing as well. Tuck them away, and pull out your spring wear. This means your shorts and capris, your tank tops, light jackets and sandals. For colors, bring out your whites and pastels, as well as lightweight and free flowing fabrics.

    CHANGE UP YOUR DECOR

Time to take down winter and bring out spring. Walk throughout your home and collect your winter decor, candles, throw pillows and blankets, and thick drapery. Then, box it all up until next season. You’ll want to decorate for spring by including light blues and greens, and pinkish hues. Add floral picks to your vases, and bring in potted plants. Swap out your heavy, heat retaining curtains for lightweight drapes that will let the light in.

Do you need a last minute date idea for you and your significant other this Valentine’s Day? We’ve got you covered!

This list is compiled with a variety of interests and types of couples in mind. Whether you two are ones to enjoy going on adventures, or prefer staying lowkey, we have a suggestion for you! Most of the following ideas also have a stay-at-home option for those with health concerns in regards to the pandemic.

    TAKE A COOKING CLASS

This idea is not only perfect for bonding, but you will also be learning a useful skill. You can learn how to make a recipe outside of your comfort zone, or how to perfect a family favorite. Search for public cooking classes in your area, or you can find one online and learn from the comfort of your own home! Not only is this hands-on and romantic, but you will end the class with a delicious home cooked meal that is sure to beat carry-out.

    ATTEND A WINE TASTING

Visit a local vineyard and enjoy the different flavors of wine they have to offer. If going out is a concern, or you simply prefer staying in, some vineyards even offer virtual wine tastings. In this case, you would preorder the wine and go through the virtual tasting at home while learning about the vineyard’s history and wine making process. Whether you choose to go out or stay in, make it more of an event by dressing up nicely for each other.

     DINE-IN MOVIE THEATER

Dinner and a movie has never been easier when you can enjoy them at the same time! Dine-in theaters often have large, comfortable seating with attached tray tables. They provide a full food and drink menu to order from, and bring out your meal at the start of the movie. Alternatively, you can also order in and set up a movie night right on your couch. Enjoy a romantic comedy or, if that’s not your thing, a thrilling suspense together while enjoying food and drink and you’ll call it a successful Valentine’s date.

    AT HOME SPA DAY

Time to have a self care and pampering day! This would be a great date idea for the couple looking to decompress and relax. Set the atmosphere with dim lighting, scented candles, and relaxing music. Then, you can soak together in a bubble bath and give each other foot and shoulder rubs. Apply face and hair masks for a full spa experience.

    TAKE A DANCE CLASS

Taking a dance class is a great idea for a couple looking to do something fun but also intimate and romantic. During a dance class, you and your spouse will maintain physical contact and closeness, and also have to work as a team. It’ll be a good workout as well, for both your body and communication skills! You can find a local dance studio to join in on a public class. Or, if you’d like to stay home, you can put on a video dance tutorial and turn your living room into a dance floor.

    COUPLES MASSAGE

This one is a no-brainer, especially for the super busy couple. Book a couple’s massage at your favorite spa to treat yourselves this Valentine’s Day. Alternatively, you could give each other the massages. Watch a quick tutorial video, and set the scene. You can warm up some towels, pick out your favorite scented lotion, and light some candles. Turn on slow relaxing music and massage out all of you and your spouse’s stresses.

    HAVE A VIDEO GAME COMPETITION

Do you or your spouse enjoy video games? Order takeout or assemble some snacks and have a video game marathon!  Pick out your favorite multiplayer games and don’t be afraid to get competitive. While this route may seem more lowkey and less intimate, for the right pair, this type of date creates bonding moments and memories that last a lifetime.

    RECREATE YOUR FIRST DATE

While this one can be tricky, if possible, it will make for a very special date. Visit the same restaurant, coffee shop, or park where you had your first date. Or, simply replicate the location to the best of your ability. For the day of, try to wear the same clothes you wore for that first date. If you can, get ready in different locations to build up anticipation. Then, meet at the date location or have one of you pick the other up, just like you would on that first date!

During the date, keep the conversation away from the house, your marriage, your kids, or any topic you normally discuss. Focus on talking about each other’s aspirations and goals. Even if you already know everything about each other, ask and answer all those first date questions. You may be surprised to learn new things about one another!

  • 7 FUN ACTIVITIES TO TRY WITH YOUR KIDS IF YOU’RE STUCK INSIDE THIS WINTER

7 FUN ACTIVITIES TO TRY WITH YOUR KIDS IF YOU’RE STUCK INSIDE THIS WINTER

For many families, winter means bundling up inside to avoid the harsh weather and colder temperatures. Whether or not you live in a place with milder winters, you may be looking for seasonal activities for your family in the comfort of your own home. Every idea on this list is kid-friendly and can be enjoyed indoors.

    CREATE CLAY SNOWMEN

Don’t get a lot of snow where you live? Your kids can still build their very own snowmen, and these ones won’t melt! Just get a container of bakeable clay and start creating. Mold a classic three-tiered snowman, or let them go outside the box and build a sculpture from their imagination. Keep the clay moldable by adding small amounts of water until you have your perfect creation, then bake it per the container’s instructions. Continue the activity with paint, or enjoy your clay snowmen as is!

    INDOOR OBSTACLE COURSE

This idea is for the parents of kiddos who have some energy to kill! With only objects within your home, you can create your very own obstacle course. Use the coffee table or chairs for them to crawl under. Then use pillows, blankets, or other soft objects for them to jump and climb over. Come up with some unique challenges and this will be a fun game as well as a learning experience for them! You could keep it lighthearted or make it competitive by timing them.

    INDOOR SCAVENGER HUNT

A more low key idea in comparison to an obstacle course, is to host an indoor scavenger hunt. Collect random items, or perhaps a few of your children’s toys, and hide them throughout the house. Be sure to keep a note of the items you use and where you place them- we don’t want anything getting lost for good. Then, write kid friendly clues leading them to the hidden location! This is another activity that is not also fun but gets their little brains going as well.

    MAKE IT SNOW INDOORS

Turn your house into a winter wonderland by creating snowflake paper cutouts. For this activity you probably have all you need already at home: paper and scissors! Of course, this will be an activity requiring adult supervision.

Fold up a piece of paper multiple times, then use the scissors to make creative cutouts along the edges. Once you’ve made all your unique snowflakes, use string and tape to attach them to the ceiling and create a constant snowfall all throughout the house!

    WRITE AND PERFORM A PLAY

For the families with older kids, or the more theatrically inclined, you could put on your very own play. Let them create their own characters and world, and help them write a storyline. Go into their closets or dress-up bin to create costumes, and perhaps even bring out the makeup. Create a makeshift stage and let them put on the play for you and your spouse and other non-performing family members. You may want to have the video camera going for this one!

    MASON JAR SNOW GLOBE

This winter craft requires a bit more preparation and items from the store. However, it’s sure to be a winner as you will be creating your very own snow globes from mason jars! You’ll need mason jars, glue, a small foam ball, glitter, and whichever figurines are going to be inside your snow globe. Then, you’ll need distilled water and glycerin. Glycerin suspends the glitter in the water to create that snowfall effect, while also preserving the decor items in the globe. It can be found at your local craft store or pharmacy section in the grocery store.

Simply cut the foam ball in half and glue the flat side to the inside of the jar’s lid. Then, use glue to place your winter trees, houses, deer, or other figurines. Don’t be afraid to get creative with paint and glitter. After it dries overnight, fill the jar with water, glitter, and glycerin and secure the lid onto the jar. Allow it one more night to dry before turning or shaking it. Finally, enjoy your very own snow globe creation!

    NAIL AND HAIR SALON

Give your kids a day of glam and self care by setting up a home nail and hair salon. Get all the supplies you have like nail files and polish, curling irons or straighteners. Let them pick out their favorite color and choose a hairstyle. THey will love getting pampered! You could even let them pick out special outfits from their closets or dress-up. Then, put on a mock photoshoot to let them show off their new looks!

There are plenty of ways to have fun at home indoors. These activities simply take some planning, creativity, and your loved ones to enjoy them with!

  • 8 MUST HAVE ESSENTIALS FOR A PERFECT WINTER WEDDING

8 MUST HAVE ESSENTIALS FOR A PERFECT WINTER WEDDING

Winter can often be the most sophisticated and romantic season to wed in. When one thinks of a winter wedding, soft falling snow, candlelight, and closeness all come to mind. With that being said, the colder weather can bring with it some event challenges. However, with some simple preparation and tips and tricks, you can ensure your day goes smoothly and embraces all the charm of winter while avoiding any obstacles it brings. In this list, we will go over those must-haves for a perfect winter wedding day.

    DRESS COAT OR SHAWL

For the brisk weather, the bride should consider adding a formal coat or shawl to wear over her dress. Whether she wears it simply to keep warm in between venue locations, or as a statement in her photos, this piece will be a must have in lower temperatures. This accent piece comes in many different styles. For a more glam look, a bride could choose a faux feather or faux fur shawl. For a delicate bride, a knitted or crocheted shawl is perfect to keep warm. An even warmer choice could be a bridal trench coat. Be sure to pick a style that suits your day while protecting you from the cold.

    EARLY PHOTO SESSION

In winter, the sun sets earlier than during the rest of the year, in some months as early as 4:30pm, and that can present some challenges for wedding photos. Depending on the time of your ceremony, you may want to consider taking bridal party photos before the ceremony or scheduling it for earlier in the day to make the most of the daylight.

Ask your photographer about when golden hour, the prime time for taking photos in the best light, will fall on your winter day. Photos are for many couples a very important takeaway of their wedding and will hold memories for years to come, so it is crucial to plan ahead to ensure you are able to get all the photos you’d need.

    AN ACCESSIBLE VENUE

Depending on your location, weather can be a major obstacle for travel for both you and your guests. You may want to avoid a more remote location or one that requires going off road, in the event there could be snow or ice preventing safe transportation to and from the venue. You could choose to have a destination wedding, and venture a little farther to someplace warmer. Or, simply choose a venue closer to town and where it is easily accessible by roads.

    APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR

Another wardrobe tip for both the bride and groom is to plan to have weather-appropriate footwear. You could either choose to wear a more sturdy shoe, without sacrificing style, for the entirety of the day, or at least bring an extra pair as a backup. If there is any chance you will go trekking out onto ice or snow, or even just wet ground, you will definitely want something other than heels and dress shoes.

    WARMING GIFTS FOR GUESTS

For a wedding day that holds some of the festivities or events outside or exposed to the winter air, blankets or hand warmers are an essential for your guests. Have a decorative display indicating to the guests to pick up a blanket to keep warm, and they will surely be grateful. Not only that, but bundled up guests will make for adorable photos and memories.

For a more practical approach and if blankets aren’t formal enough, supply your guests with hand warmers instead.

    A BACK UP PLAN

For any part of the event that is planned to be outdoors, whether that be the ceremony, the photos, or the reception, consider having a back-up plan. Winter weather can be unpredictable, and while a soft snowfall is beautiful and nondisruptive, a snowstorm would not be. Be sure to have somewhere indoors to hold your events just in case the weather or temperatures are no longer manageable for you or your guests.

In addition, consider the potential of power loss, and perhaps choose a venue with a generator if this is a concern for you. Lastly, have a backup plan for traveling guests. Serious weather can postpone or prohibit guests from flying or driving to your destination. For this, consider live streaming your day in the event some guests cannot make it.

    HOT CHOCOLATE BAR

This one is simply a bonus, but a hot chocolate bar would be a fun way for your guests to keep warm on your wedding day. Display it with different flavors and toppings, such as whip cream, chocolate chips, and peppermints. This is also a family friendly drink option in addition to signature cocktails. A sweet and cozy drink is sure to warm everybody up during a brisk winter day.

    TRUST IN YOUR PREPARATIONS

After going through this list and making the proper preparations, being sure to plan for any possible scenario that winter weather can bring, you’ll want to then trust in those plans and enjoy your day. Once every backup plan is in place, let go of any unnecessary stress. What is most important is that you are getting married to your future life partner amongst all your loved ones. With that in perspective, everything else will fall into place.
