6 Last Minute Memorial Day Weekend Plans

Time just seems to be flying! It feels like just days ago, we were finishing with our spring cleaning, and now suddenly, we are nearing the end of May, and Memorial Day is around the corner.

Despite that, there is no need to scramble to make plans. If you have yet to make some weekend plans for Memorial Day, you are in luck! We have some great last-minute suggestions below that require little to no planning and are still packed with fun!

In addition to all the cool plans we have listed below, it is important to remember the sentiment of the Memorial Day holiday: to honor U.S. military personnel who died while serving.

If you are looking for something you can do to honor this sentiment, here are a few suggestions:

Incorporating one of those suggestions or something else along those lines can be a lovely addition to your Memorial Day weekend plans.

We have some fantastic recommendations below for the holiday weekend. Whether you want to stay at home, do something fun in your city, or venture out on a day trip, there are a variety of options to choose from!

    Have a Barbecue

Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to have a barbecue! Whether it is just you and your family or you decide to host your friends too, having a barbecue is a delicious way to spend the holiday. Grill up some classics like hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, and some seasoned veggies and corn on the cob. Prepare some tasty sides like potato salad and macaroni and cheese. And don’t forget about dessert! Apple pie is a timeless and sweet addition. Enjoy an amazing barbecued meal with your favorite people.

    Go to the Beach

If you live near the coast and the weather is good, going to the beach for Memorial Day weekend is a fun way to get some sun and enjoy the holiday. Whether you are planning to spend a day at the beach or the whole weekend, it is always a wonderful experience when you can lounge on a beach chair and read a good book, or go for a walk along the shore with the waves running over your feet. Don’t forget to pack a cooler with yummy snacks, sandwiches, and drinks. And, of course, you will also need this beach day essential: sunscreen.

    Attend a Local Parade

If you are looking for something local to do, all it takes is a quick search online to find out what events are happening in your area. Many cities have events and parades to celebrate Memorial Day weekend. Find an event in your city or a neighboring town and attend it! These types of events will often have music from local performers and food trucks or tents. Watch a parade and support local businesses and vendors at a fun community event. Some cities even put on a firework show at night, so make sure you plan accordingly!

    Host a Get-Together

If you don’t have a grill or just don’t feel like barbecuing, that doesn’t have to stop you from having guests over for Memorial Day weekend! Hosting a get-together is another excellent way to celebrate the holiday. It is also a perfect option if the weather turns out to be a little more rainy than sunny. You can host a potluck where everyone brings a dish, or you can order pizza or takeout. Create a playlist of upbeat music just for the occasion. Keep your friends and family entertained with fun games like trivia and board games.

    Go Berry Picking

Want to do something fun and different on Memorial Day weekend? Try going berry picking! Berries are typically in season from spring to summer, so late May is a prime time to head out to a berry patch and start picking. Do a little bit of research before you go to see what is ripe for picking in your region. It’s always fun to find some recipes for inspiration as well before you head out! Spend the day wandering around gorgeous acres of berry patches while gathering the key ingredients you will need for a delicious treat to make at home.

    Visit the Lake

Chances are there is a lovely lake or two within driving distance of your home – or maybe even some natural springs depending on where you live. So, pack up your swimsuit, some snacks, and perhaps even a Bluetooth speaker to spend the day at the lake. Many parks and preserves also have hiking trails, making this an excellent option to lace up your shoes and enjoy some local nature while also getting some exercise!

  • CHECK OUT THESE 6 FUN SUMMER WEDDING TRENDS WE’RE SEEING MORE OF IN 2022

CHECK OUT THESE 6 FUN SUMMER WEDDING TRENDS WE’RE SEEING MORE OF IN 2022

Summer wedding season is upon us! And you might be surprised what brides are doing during this warm season this year. From going lowkey and casual to out-of-the-box outfits, 2022’s summer wedding trends are about doing what’s right for you. Gone are the days of pleasing your guest list or choosing elements based on old traditions. Brides are planning their day their way, not simply following trends and customs. With that being said, here’s what we’re seeing more and more brides plan for their 2022 summer wedding.

    BRIDGERTON THEMES

It’s no surprise, with how the viral Netflix series has taken the world by storm, that Bridgerton summer weddings are increasing in popularity. Brides are showcasing aspects of the show’s delicate details with puff sleeves, bow accents, and frilly tulle dresses. Their centerpieces and table settings are tea party-themed with an air of elegance. Color palettes feature soft pinks, prussian and periwinkle blues, and classic ivories. If your day happens to fall on an especially sunny or rainy day? No worries. Bridgerton-inspired brides are accenting their look with umbrellas or parasols to block out the summer sun.

    DARING OUTFITS

As previously stated, 2022 brides are opting for individuality over custom and tradition. They are doing so in the way of their outfits by ditching the classic white wedding gown. You can think completely out of the box here. Embrace your more regal, masculine side by sporting a jumpsuit or bridal suit. Showcase your unique style and stand out by choosing a gown in a bold pattern or color. Brides are using this special day to show their personality by dressing in cosplay or incorporating unique details such as feathers or leather. We’re seeing wedding outfits more fit for the red carpet or the Met Gala in 2022! It’s your day to have fun and feel great, so there are no rules.

    BACKYARD VENUES

After the craziness that has been the past few years, some brides are choosing to eliminate the stress of wedding planning by choosing their backyard as their venue! We’re seeing brides whittle down their guest lists to close friends and family, and hosting an intimate backyard gathering. You can go as simple as you want, or still have a more done-up and formal event with outdoor decor, hanging string lights, and renting tables and chairs. The best part of having a backyard wedding is there are no limitations as to what time and amenities you have access to!

    FUN ENTERTAINMENT

A lot of brides are reprioritizing what’s important about their wedding day. We’re seeing aesthetics and decor fall lower on the totem pole, and memory-making aspects make their way to the top. This means incorporating fun entertainment elements for you and your guests to enjoy on your wedding day. Go all out with rented carnival rides, or set up simple (but fun) yard games to enjoy. Set up a DIY photobooth or rent one to collect physical mementos of your special day!

    POOL PARTY REHEARSAL DINNERS

Trade the formal and stuffy rehearsal dinner for a casual pre-wedding party by the pool or beach! Take advantage of the sunny weather by gathering your family and bridal party poolside for all your pre-wedding celebrations. If your family members have kiddos with them, this is a great way to party for all ages! Just be sure a hired lifeguard is present to ensure you and your guests’ safety. You can deck out the pool deck with decor such as lanterns, string lights, and simple table settings. Feed your guests classic summer barbecue foods such as burgers, hot dogs, or grilled chicken. Attire should be casual, such as sundresses and shorts, and be sure to remind your guests to bring their swimsuits!

    PLANNING YOUR WAY

Remember to plan your day according to your style and desires. Feel free to prioritize what’s important to you and your future spouse, whether that’s the decor, the amenities, the venue, or even mere convenience! Wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful, and it actually can be exactly what you’ve wanted it to be. More and more couples are breaking the classic wedding day mold and we’re fully here for it. We hope this list of summer wedding trends inspires you to think outside the box, be bold, and plan the wedding day of your dreams, regardless of “rules” and expectations.

  • THE ULTIMATE HONEYMOON CHECKLIST, INCLUDING ESSENTIALS AND NICE-TO-HAVE ITEMS

THE ULTIMATE HONEYMOON CHECKLIST, INCLUDING ESSENTIALS AND NICE-TO-HAVE ITEMS

You’ve booked the venue, you’ve picked out your florals, you said yes to the dress, and planned all those important wedding details. Next, it’s time to think about planning the much needed vacation for you and your new spouse to spend undivided, stress-free time together. Once you’ve chosen your destination and planned all your festivities, we know the last thing you want to do is plan out a packing list. To take this unneeded stress off your shoulders, we’ve compiled a list of essentials, nice-to-haves, and fun bonuses to add to your honeymoon packing list so you won’t be scrambling for any missing items right after saying “I do.”

    THE ESSENTIALS

These are the items that must be double and triple checked that you have because you will not want to be without. The night before your flight, or the morning of, go over this list to be sure you did not miss any of these crucial items.

    Passport and driver’s license

These two are fairly obvious but can easily get misplaced in the midst of chaos and any moves taking place. If your honeymoon is out of the country, have your passport ready to go in a secure and easy-to-find location. Ensure your driver’s licenses are on hand and in a safe place.

    Credit cards

Not unlike your IDs, ensure your credit cards are accounted for and in a secure place in a bag or wallet. Also, be sure to call your bank to inform them of your upcoming trip to avoid your transactions getting blocked or flagged as fraudulent!

    Prescription medications, allergy medicines, vitamins

These daily essentials can get easily overlooked in the packing. Ensure you and your spouse have all of your prescribed medications, including allergy medicines and vitamins. If either of you suffers from asthma, double check for an inhaler. Likewise, if you have a severe allergy, pack an EpiPen to have on hand. That way, you’ll rest assured you’re prepared for any emergency situation.

    Chargers for all devices

You won’t want to be across the country with dead devices and no way to charge them. Double check for all charging cables before getting on your flight! Luckily, if this essential does get left behind, you should be able to purchase them at your new location or even in the airport itself.

    Copies of important information

To ensure everything goes smoothly and you have all the paperwork you need, make hard copies of all important documents. Have copies of your hotel booking confirmations, your health insurance information, copies of your prescription medications in case you forget or lose your medications, and have a hard copy of essential phone numbers. You’ll want the phone numbers of your doctor, an emergency contact, your house or pet sitter, and your health insurance.  In case your cellular device gets lost or stolen, you’ll want all of these things on paper!

Clothing appropriate for your destination’s weather

If you’re going tropical, remember to pack swimwear, sandals, and clothes for the warm weather. If you’re headed to the mountains or a ski resort, remember snowproof gear and hiking boots.

    Skincare

Don’t forget your skincare products. If you’re packing light, ensure you have at least makeup remover and sunscreen. If you anticipate long days in the sun, you may want to throw in aloe as well.

    THE NICE-TO-HAVES

Our list of nice-to-haves are the items that can be left behind without ruining your trip but will help make your trip more enjoyable and/or stress free.

    Luggage tags

Luggage tags make for quick and easy bag identification at baggage claim. They also ensure no confusion over similar looking luggage. Make collecting your luggage more fun by adding cute newlywed luggage tags with your new titles of “Mr.” or “Mrs.”

    eReader or Books

If you have a long flight ahead of you, download a book onto your eReader or grab that copy you’ve been eyeing to keep you entertained while you reach your destination. A book is also a great companion to lounging at the beach if you’re headed to an oceanside vacation spot.

Earplugs, a neck pillow, and sleep mask

Prioritize your comfort on a long flight by bringing these nice-to-haves. That way you won’t have to worry about a crying baby or bright lights disturbing you on your trip.

Clothing for your nights in and out

You’ll probably want at least one “night out” outfit including heels and a nice dress, as well as some loungewear for your nights in.

    Light jacket/sweatshirt

Even if you’re going someplace warm, prepare for a windy or chilly night by throwing a light jacket or sweatshirt into your suitcase.

    Extra socks and underwear

Remember to pack one set for every day you plan to be gone, and then three to five extra pairs. You can never overpack undergarments.

    Tide To-Go Pen

A Tide Pen is travel friendly and easy to use for touching up small stains on the go.

    Silicone wedding bands

We know you love showing off your newly married status. So, if your honeymoon involves any adventuring or swimming, try switching off your nice wedding bands for silicone bands. That way, the symbol is still on your finger while your official bands are kept safe from being lost or damaged.

    THE FUN BONUSES

    Travel playlist

Ensure your memories are made with a curated playlist going in the background. You and your spouse can build a playlist together of your favorite tunes, or songs that fit whatever vibe of trip you’re going for. You’ll be able to go back and listen to that playlist for years to come and remember all the memories you made together.

    Matching newlywed clothes

Why not go all out and show off to everyone your new married status? You can get matching t-shirts or sweatshirts, or even matching bathing suits so everyone at your new destination knows why you’re celebrating.

  • OUR 5 BEST KID-FRIENDLY FAMILY DESTINATIONS SPOTS FOR YOUR SUMMER 2022 VACATION

OUR 5 BEST KID-FRIENDLY FAMILY DESTINATIONS SPOTS FOR YOUR SUMMER 2022 VACATION

School’s out for the summer! Well maybe not quite yet, but very soon, and it may be smart to get a jumpstart on planning your summer family trip. You’ll definitely want to be ahead of the game and know where you want to go so that you can securely book your stay and plan your activities well in advance. If you have kiddos to bring along and you’re looking for somewhere fun for both adults and kids, you’re at the right spot! Here you’ll find a list of family friendly vacation destinations to explore this summer 2022.

    SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

San Diego is on the sunny west coast of California. This lovely city is full of fun things to do for both adults and kids alike. Your first stop should be the San Diego Zoo, a home to over 3,700 endangered animals as well as thousands of exotic plants. They even have guided tours and experiences to enjoy. Another popular kid-friendly spot in San Diego is LEGOLAND California. This park even includes an aquarium and water park to cool down and escape the summer heat. Another activity to bring your kids to is SeaWorld San Diego. You can learn about penguins, dolphins, sea otters, and more and even touch reef sharks. There is enough here to offer that you could spend an entire day exploring.

If your family is a fan of Sesame Street, check out San Diego’s brand-new park that just opened in March 2022, Sesame Place. This is the only theme park of its kind entirely dedicated to Sesame Street, including its iconic neighborhood and characters with show parades and more. Next, visit Balboa park for free while purchasing tickets to the mini museums accessible by it. It holds beautiful gardens and historic buildings as well as fun restaurants to try including Panama 66 and the Tea Pavilion at the Japanese Friendship Garden. You won’t run out of things to do if you decide to head to San Diego for your family vacation this year.

    WASHINGTON, D.C.

Washington D.C., while it’s known to be the home of the US capital, offers world class museums, amazing restaurants, and beautiful outdoor parks with plenty to enjoy by young ages and older. After your stop at the White House, head to one of the many museums in the D.C. area. The International Spy Museum provides attendees with an inside look at spy equipment, including cameras and vehicles, and has hands-on activities including diffusing an atomic bomb and testing their own spy skills.

D.C. is also home to the United States Botanic Garden, an oasis boasting hundreds of different plant species and natural wonders. There’s even a kid friendly section of the garden called the Butterfly Garden with interactive activities. On warmer days, head to the Yards Park off of the Anacostia River where kids can splash around in the fountains, or rent a canoe or kayak to head out on the water. Check out the events calendar before stopping by to see if there’s any special events going on such as movie screenings or kid friendly live music.

    ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Orlando is home to the happiest place on earth, Disney World, which is why it had to make this list of one of the top family friendly vacation spots in the US. Home of Disney’s four parks, this spot is a no-brainer to make memories with your family. If all parks can’t make your list this year, the most kid-friendly include Disney’s Magic Kingdom, home of Cinderella castle and Frontierland, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which hosts many wonders including Pandora and Dinoland.

Outside of Disney, you can visit Crayola Experience. Here you can enjoy dozens of hands-on activities exploring art and technology and expressing your family’s creativity. Crayola Experience is a 70,000 square foot experience with 27 hands-on attractions including wrapping and naming your very own Crayola crayon, or starring in your very own coloring page.

    GRAPEVINE, TEXAS

Grapevine Texas is only a short six minute drive from the Dallas International Airport. It hosts a variety of fun activities for families to enjoy especially for Christmas lovers. Head over to the Christmas Capital of Texas, a small Christmas town that hosts parades and light shows all year long. Or, for a more summery activity, you can check out one of Grapevine’s parks including LEGOLAND Discovery Center, where your kids can learn the story of how Lego bricks are made. Explore the wonders of the sea by heading to the SeaLife Aquarium. Visitors can look through glass floors and walk through a 360° glass tunnel to be fully immersed into ocean life. There’s also a small play zone for your kiddos to get out some energy during your visit. Lastly, stop at the touch pool where your family will be able to touch sea creatures including starfish and sea urchins.

    BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS

Boston is a great location as both a fun and educational trip. Take a ride on Boston’s Swan Boats that were designed in 1877 and take a 15 minute cruise around the lagoon in the Boston Public Garden. Join a live guided tour of the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum while you learn about this significant event in 1773 that started the American Revolution. This live tour includes in-character and in-costume actors to authentically represent the people and events that led up to the American Revolution.

Next, explore the nation’s only 360° indoor globe. Boston’s iconic Mapparium experience shows an in-depth look of the world in 1935 before World War II, giving you a view from the inside looking out. This three story stained glass globe gives you a three-dimensional view of how the countries and borders have changed over the years. For getting out some extra energy, and for the older kids, head to Brooklyn Boulders Somerville to embark on the 25,000 feet of indoor climbing terrain. You can start with a beginner’s class, teaching you how to use a harness and appropriately climb, and then you’re off on your own to explore and climb the day away.

TOP 10 TRENDIEST AND MOST MEMORABLE BACHELORETTE PARTY DESTINATIONS FOR 2022

The bachelorette party is one wedding event that is all about you and your girls. While other family member’s, parent’s, and your spouse’s needs all come into play when planning a wedding, the bachelorette party is all for you! This is the time to relax and unwind and, of course, party with you and your best girlfriends. We’re here to recommend some of the best and most popular bachelorette party destinations with what to do so you’re sure to have an amazing time celebrating.

    LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

If you have a larger bridal party, a location like Las Vegas is a no brainer. This destination is known for being one of the most popular spots for bachelorette parties, and for good reason. There’s hot nightclubs, world class dining for larger groups and various entertainment for memory making. We recommend checking out the Marquee Dayclub at The Cosmopolitan. This 22,000 square foot bar features two pools, multiple bars, a restaurant, and a gaming center. Visit on Sunday night to experience their nighttime pool party. If you’re lucky, you may even be able to catch a guest star performance.

    LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

Los Angeles, California is known as the City of Angels. It’s got warm weather and sunshine, lively nightclubs, shopping, amazing food, and beautiful beaches. You’ll want to snag a beachside hotel or AirBnB, or at least one with a pool to take advantage of all that sunbathing weather. Go shopping along a mile long strip in Venice, or check out the Santa Monica farmer’s market. For a more chill day, relax and try new wines at one of LA’s wineries.

    MIAMI, FLORIDA

Miami, Florida is the perfect location for those bridal parties that want to be out on the water. This destination is warm and sunny year-round, so you’re able to plan your getaway at any time of year. Miami is known for great beaches and days out on the yacht, catamaran, or pontoon boat. At night, visit one of their beach clubs like Fontainebleau and dance the night away.

    NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE

In the recent decade, Nashville, Tennessee has become one of the top 5 locations for bachelorette parties. It boasts roaring nightlife, loud country music, and delicious eats. Check out restaurants like Biscuit Love for brunch to enjoy that comforting southern fare of biscuits and gravy. Bridal parties staying in Nashville are basically required to rent a party vehicle to tour the town, such as a pedal pub. Then hit up the Honky Tonk, a three level club with bars, music and dancing once the sun goes down.

    NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA

Nothing tops the rich culture and vibes of New Orleans, Louisiana. In the morning, stop at Cafe du Monde for beignets and coffee. Then head over and tour the French Quarter or the Arts and Garden District for beautiful sights. Once the sun starts to set, bring on the Glitter Buffet, a local glitter company that comes to you to apply glitter and glam to your entire party. Then, you and your glittery bridal party are ready to hit the town and check out Frenchmen Street, full of culture and live bands playing New Orleans music.

    TURKS AND CAICOS

This destination features the sought after white sand beaches, as well as all-inclusive upscale resorts. Stay in a resort to take advantage of the delicious cocktails while lounging in a cabana. Then explore the day with matching group bicycles. For a quieter and more private weekend away, book a private villa for you and your girls. Explore the ocean with a snorkeling trip, then head back and wind down on your private balcony overlooking the sunset.

    SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA

Scottsdale is increasing in popularity over the recent years, as it brings a more manageable Vegas feel. It has a nice climate year round, and lots of things to do during the day and night. For the party-goers, try a high-energy pool party like the Maya Dayclub. For those who want to adventure out in nature, try a hike of Camelback Mountain. After sunset, check out the vibrant nightlife of W Scottsdale.

    TULUM, MEXICO

Stay in Mexico for a jungle-beach vibe along the Yucatán Peninsula. Here you’ll find all inclusive resorts with plunge pools, oceanfront yoga, and nightlife with DJ sets to dance away to. Relax by lounging along its beautiful beaches. Or, for some adventure, visit the over 1,000 year old Mayan ruins. At night, check out the sandside Beach Club at the Papaya Playa Project for lively music and a cocktail bar to wind down the day.

    CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

This location is for the bachelorettes who still love to party but with a more upscale, classy flair, over a rooftop bar with a city view. Charleston boasts southern hospitality and charm, and this east coast destination attracts foodies and party-goers alike. During the day, take a private catamaran charter out on the water and relax. At night, dine at one of Charleston’s amazing restaurants, or check out one of Bulldog Tour’s spooky ghost walk tours.

    THE BAHAMAS

Head out to the Caribbean classic, The Bahamas, where you can enjoy white-sand beaches and all-inclusive resorts. You can spend the day in Nassau, where along the many islands you can find multiple scenic food shacks for fresh food and fruity cocktails. • DON’T FORGET THESE 5 KEY WAYS TO SHOW OFF YOUR NEW NAME AFTER MARRIAGE

DON’T FORGET THESE 5 KEY WAYS TO SHOW OFF YOUR NEW NAME AFTER MARRIAGE

So you’ve done the thing. You tied the knot. Now, the highly anticipated day you’ve been waiting for, obtaining the name you may have doodled in notebooks before now. It’s time to change your name! Whether you’re accumulating all the necessary documents to go the DIY route, or you’re letting a convenient name change service take the task off your plate, you may be thinking about all the ways to showcase it once it’s changed. Here are some key places to update your new name, some critical to make it fully legal, and others to show off your family name to everyone you know.

    YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE

Let’s get the boring ones out of the way. You’ll definitely need to update your new name with the DMV and get an updated driver’s license. All of your important identifying documents should display your new legal name. As a bonus, this daily used ID will help solidify your new identity as a married person and help you identify with your new name.

    YOUR PASSPORT

Similarly to your driver’s license, you won’t want to forget updating this important document once you have officially changed your name. That way, there won’t be any discrepancies between documents when you go to travel or leave the country. Don’t wait until the last minute when you’re weeks away from your already booked Caribbean trip. Get it changed now and you’ll be able to seamlessly travel as a married couple and your names will match on those passports.

    YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS

Unless you have one of those cutesy unidentifying emails, you probably have been using a variation of your first and last name in your email address. As you want to start being referred to with your new name, you may want to consider changing your email address to reflect it. While this may seem like a huge headache, we recommend integrating it slowly, only updating crucial accounts and communications to the new email address. Over time, you can switch everything over slowly so as not to overwhelm you. But, once you have, you’ll be grateful that your new email showcases your new married name to all who communicate with you.

    YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

Now onto the fun stuff! It’s time to show off your new married name by updating your social media. It’s the step we all highly anticipate. Don’t forget to change your name and status on Facebook. And, update your name and even your username handle on all the other platforms like Instagram and Twitter. Everyone who follows you will be able to see your new family name and recognize your new wifey status.

If you don’t want to confuse any relatives, or it’s your personal preference, you can keep your maiden name before your new married name. Lots of people choose to display both names due to affinity to their maiden name or to avoid any identity confusion. It’s completely up to you! Either way, updating all of your socials is the #1 place to show off your new name.

    YOUR HOME DECOR

Another super fun way to show off your family name is to get custom home decor and display it all over your living spaces! You can order a custom made placemat to welcome guests at the door with your married name. Another at-the-door option is a door sign or wreath with your namesake. Many people decorate their home with their family initial, either as stained or painted letters on the wall or by adding their monogram to a dining table runner. Lastly, you can order custom frames with your new name scripted on them, and use them to display your engagement or brand new wedding photos around your home. Get creative, as there are so many ways you can showcase your new name in your home decor.

With spring we think cooler flavors, brightness, and citrus tastes. For your ease, we’ve picked out some of the best recipes that remind us of all things spring and freshness. This list includes a recipe for each meal of the day, from breakfast to dinner, and even a dessert drink.

    CRANBERRY OATMEAL BARS

These easy breakfast bars are the perfect grab and go for spring. Those warmer areas will love that they can keep the oven off for this one, as these bars are no bake! They are a healthy alternative to those packaged granola bars, and are also vegan and gluten-free.

For this recipe, you’ll need quick-cooking oats, chia seeds, agave or maple syrup, and dried cranberries. Alternatively you can swap out the cranberries for your favorite dried fruit such as dried blueberries or even raisins. After a quick heating up of oil, nut butter and agave, you’ll mix the wet ingredients with the dry, and press them tightly into an 8×8 pan. Let it sit in the refrigerator overnight, then pull out of the container and cut into easy-to-grab bars. Keep in the fridge for easy breakfast all week, or freeze for up to one month!

    GREEK COUSCOUS SALAD

This bright, tasty, and veggie filled salad is full of bright colors and flavors for spring. This salad comes together in under an hour and is perfect for a week of meal prep lunches. The protein in this salad comes from both chickpeas and chicken, but to make it vegan simply leave out the chicken and feta cheese. To make it gluten-free, swap out the couscous for some brown rice. This recipe allows for multiple swaps or customizations for your preferences or dietary needs.

For this recipe you’ll need Israeli or pearled couscous, chicken, chickpeas, cucumbers and other veggies, parsley, feta, and a homemade dressing. This salad also has no need for the oven, and only requires cooking for the chicken. For a completely no-cook method, grab a premade rotisserie chicken from the store. Simply chop the veggies and herbs, and toss everything together in a large mixing bowl. You can serve as a meal immediately, or separate into meal prep containers for easy no-heat lunches all week.

    SPRINGTIME PASTA BAKE

This dinner recipe is for those who still want a warm and comforting meal while incorporating the tastes of spring. This pasta bake has a light and veggie filled sauce and features spring’s asparagus and zucchini. Alternatively, you can use other quick cooking springy veggies like snap peas or green beans. To make this dish vegan, you’ll need to omit the cheese or use a vegan cheese alternative. To make it gluten free, simply use a gluten free pasta.

For this recipe, you will heat and blend the sauce ingredients, and then cook the pasta according to its package instructions. In a separate pan, you’ll fry up the chopped asparagus and zucchini until soft. Then, combine all parts, top with cheese, and bake for warm pasta goodness.

    CUCUMBER DILL SALAD

This quick, six ingredient side salad showcases all of that bright tanginess of spring. It has the sharper flavors coming from dill and vinegar, and has crisp freshness coming from cucumbers and red onion. For the marinade, you’ll just need vinegar, dill, sugar and salt. This recipe is naturally vegan and gluten free!

For easier and even slicing, you can use a mandolin slicer. If you don’t have this tool in your kitchen, simply chop them the old fashioned way. You’ll only need about one fourth of an onion in this salad, and you’ll want to peel the cucumbers unless you like extra crunch. Serve this fresh salad as a side to some grilled chicken or salmon for a complete meal.

    LEMON CAKE

We know it’s easy to miss the days of pumpkin bread and banana bread on a brisk winter night, but no fret. This lemon cake is a great spring replacement for you. The recipe creates a tart, moist and warm cake to have as a side to your dinner or as an after-meal treat.

In addition to all the classic baking ingredients, for this cake you’ll need buttermilk, vanilla extract, lemon zest and lemon juice. This recipe may take a few more steps to come together, but the labor is worth it. While the cake is baking in the oven, you’ll whip up a sweet glaze made of confectioner’s sugar and lemon juice that you’ll drizzle over the top of the baked loaf.

    STRAWBERRY LIME SLUSH DRINK

If you love those fruity slushies from the convenience store but would like something less artificial and sweet, you’ll love this strawberry slush drink recipe. These drinks come together easily in the blender and are very kid friendly topped with sparkling water. For an adult only variation, you can top with champagne! This bright fun drink is sure to be a hit for the upcoming warm spring days.

This recipe is vegan and gluten free as is. It only includes five ingredients: frozen strawberries, lime juice (or lemon juice if you prefer), raw honey or other liquid sweetener, mint leaves, and sparkling water (or champagne for an adult only option). Simply blend the first four ingredients together to make the strawberry slush. Store in the fridge until you’re ready to serve, then top with sparkling water.

  • 8 IDEAS FOR GETTING OUTSIDE AND ACTIVE THIS SPRING SEASON

8 IDEAS FOR GETTING OUTSIDE AND ACTIVE THIS SPRING SEASON

We’re waving goodbye to the cold brisk months, and embracing the warm weather ahead! With the temperatures increasing, the option to spend more time outside becomes available to us. The past few months have kept us bundled up inside, so you may be itching to get out and explore the great outdoors.

If you’re at a loss as to what to do first, we’ve compiled a list of fun outdoor activities. These suggestions are for adults, although you could bring your kiddos along as well. They can be enjoyed by yourself or with your significant other!

    START A GARDEN

While this idea may take the most amount of work, we also think it would be the most rewarding. Starting a garden in your own backyard can yield for yourself beautiful greenery and delicious vegetables. If you’re a beginner, no worries, you can still grow a successful garden. The easiest beginner friendly plants to choose from are lots of leafy greens such as spinach, salad greens, and basil. Another easier veggie to grow is a zucchini, although it does need a lot of space in your backyard.

If you do decide to take on this venture, start planning now. A well thought out garden is more likely the successful one. If you start small, do your research, and set reminders to tend to your garden, you’ll have fresh produce in no time.

    GO FISHING

For a relaxing day out in the sun, pull out your fishing rods and get out on the water. If you don’t have a place for public fishing near you, you may want to travel and make it a day trip. Make sure you find a location that allows public fishing, and research the appropriate bait for the types of fish in your area.

The key here is to be patient, as most of the day is to be spent waiting. The benefit to this activity is that the goal is to have a day in the fresh air, to relax and let your mind wander. If you bring a friend or significant other, then it’s a great time to have deep conversation. Bonus points if you end up catching something!

    CAMP UP

This suggestion is a multi-day or at least overnight one. As the weather warms up, those with an adventurous spirit may enjoy a mini camping trip. You can find public designated camping grounds that may have amenities such as restrooms and fresh water. These sites may even allow you to reserve a space, or be on a first come first serve basis.

If you’re more of an introvert or recluse, then you can scout out a dispersed camping spot. These spots can be found in national or state parks. They will likely offer privacy and amazing fews of surrounding nature, but will be without facilities and water, so you will need to be more prepared. A few camping must-haves are waterproof clothing, fire starters, a portable camping stove, and a camera for the keepsakes!

    TRIP TO THE ZOO

Take a trip to a local zoo to meet all its cute and exotic animals. This idea is fun for adults and children alike. No two trips are the same! For this venture, you’ll definitely want comfortable shoes, some water, and a non-flash camera to catch all those cute animal moments.

    TAKE ON A NATURE HIKE

If you want to get out into the great outdoors, but don’t have the time or equipment for camping, find a nearby route and take a nature hike instead! Like with camping, make sure you have all the hiking essentials: lots of water, hiking shoes, sunscreen, and a snack.

If you’re new to hiking or the area, we’d definitely suggest choosing a beginner’s hiking route and bringing your spouse or a friend. Nevertheless, this adventure is a great way to be amongst nature and in the fresh air, while putting yourself up for a challenge.

    HAVE A PICNIC

This option is fun and allows for more spontaneity, and that is to have a spring picnic. You can visit a local park or nearby public gardens that will be filled with fresh blooms and lots of fields to picnic on. As for food, we recommend packing the food and drink in a stable cooler, and filling the pretty picnic basket with other picnic items.

The easiest foods for a picnic would be sandwiches, fruits, and snacks. Other essentials would be thick blankets, silverware and glasses, sunscreen, and some wet wipes for easy clean up. Of course, bring your spouse and/or children to enjoy the day with.

    HOST A FLOWER PHOTOSHOOT

If you haven’t taken some couple or family photos in a while, take advantage of the new blooming flowers of spring and have a photoshoot. In most areas, you can find a field of wildflowers near you that would be the perfect spot for some romantic shots. Alternatively, you can find a local park or local garden for your photo backdrop.

You can make it a casual affair and snap some candids with your smartphone, or make it a professional event with a hired photographer and styled outfits. Whatever you choose, you will have captured memories while getting outside and amongst the warm weather.

    GO GOLFING

Another idea for spending the day outside is to try your hand at a round of golf. You and your spouse can head to a golf course and spend the day honing your skills. Or, for a kid friendly (or inexperienced golfer) option, you can simply find a nearby sports park and play putt-putt. Whatever you choose, this would sure to be a fun way to get outside while playing a game and getting exercise!

  • HOW TO PICK OUT THE PERFECT GUEST OUTFIT FOR ALL YOUR UPCOMING SPRING WEDDINGS

HOW TO PICK OUT THE PERFECT GUEST OUTFIT FOR ALL YOUR UPCOMING SPRING WEDDINGS

Wedding season is upon us! As the invites start dropping into your mailbox, you may be staring at your closet wondering how you will dress for all of these events. No worries! We have some inspo for styles to consider, as well as different ways to get your dresses for these events. So, put away that three-year-old outfit collecting dust in the back of your closet, and take a look at some of our best styles to try this spring.

    Source: Revolve

    WEAR BOLD ORANGE AND BLUSH

For this season, we’re seeing orange and pink hues in satin and tulle material as a trend. Sport one of these colors and you’ll be sure to turn heads. Other colors to consider for spring 2022 are baby blue, sage green, and baby pink. Just make sure to not match the bridal party, and as always, stay away from white!

    Source: ZARA

    PICK FLORAL PATTERNS

What better way to showcase the season of blooms than to choose a floral patterned dress? You can choose an understated look with a delicate pattern and pale hues or, for some more fun, opt for a bold chunky pattern and loud colors. Whatever suits your personality and is appropriate for the event! Floral dresses are very versatile and come in many styles. You can opt for a mini sundress for the more casual affair, or a floor-length off-the-shoulder gown for those black tie events.

    SPORT A JUMPSUIT

Not a skirt or gown kind of girl? Sport a jumpsuit to your spring wedding event. The cut of this outfit is extremely versatile and allows for many options for accessories and comfort. For bags, you can pair a jumpsuit with a cross-body bag or clutch. Strut into your event in either flats or heels.

Jumpsuits can easily be formal enough for a wedding by way of fabric or style. Opt for a classy fabric such as velvet or chiffon, and choosing one that will tie or cinch at your waist will show off your figure. We think the jumpsuit is a great idea for cooler spring weddings with the full leg coverage and the ease of pairing a cover up, such as a cardigan or, our favorite choice, a blazer.

    Source: Anthropologie

    CHOOSE A SKIRT

Some people may think a skirt is not appropriate for a wedding, but depending on the location and the nature of the event, we think it could be a great choice. For the casual afternoon wedding, you could easily pair a long floral skirt with a button-down and look great. For more formal events, choose a long pleated skirt with an off-the-shoulder top. This option allows for more versatility, so you can wear it to multiple events while changing your top and accessories to create an entirely new look. It also makes restroom trips much simpler, which is a win in our book.

    DRESS UP A SUNDRESS

Now, what if it’s not in the budget to fork over hundreds for new wedding outfits for every event this season? We have some budget-friendly ideas for you. One option is to pull out that spring sundress from the back of your closet and dress it up until it’s wedding appropriate. Pair it with heels and panty hoes for a refined look, and add a fancy clutch or bag. One way to make the outfit look more expensive is to color coordinate the accessories. Match the earrings to your clutch bag and even your heels and no one will give your sundress a second thought.

    Source: Rent the Runway

    RENT A DRESS

This option is not only affordable, but it’s fun, accessible, and sustainable. You can rent your wedding guest dress via a rental clothing shop such as Rent The Runway. These shops feature hundreds of different dresses and styles, and they come in a variety of inclusive sizes. You receive your rental a day or two before your event, and then simply send it back when you’re done with it, all for a reasonable price. They even take care of the dry cleaning for you. Most of these companies keep these clothes from ending up in landfills, so it’s definitely a sustainable option if this is a value of yours!

    DRESS SWAP WITH A FRIEND

Our final budget saving idea is to simply swap outfits with a friend. If you have a gal pal who’s similar in size and also has an array of events to attend, see if you two can swap outfits. This way, you can save money without having to wear the same dress to every wedding you’re invited to. This can be a fun way to change up your closet and introduce yourself to new styles without breaking the bank. Dress swapping is also very sustainable as no needless purchases are being made by your or your friend! It’s a win-win all around.

  • HOW TO STAY COMFORTABLE AND TRENDY DURING THE TRANSITION FROM WINTER TO SPRING

HOW TO STAY COMFORTABLE AND TRENDY DURING THE TRANSITION FROM WINTER TO SPRING

As we transition from winter and into spring, the weather changes may make our wardrobes end up a little confused. While it’s still too cold for tank tops and sandals, it’s far too warm to bundle up in thick sweaters and boots anymore. So, stuck on what to wear? We’ve come up with styles that are as practical for the season as they are fashionable. Here’s some inspo on appropriate wear for the temperatures while still staying on trend.

    THE PALE PANT

To keep your legs covered but to brighten things up for the season of spring, swap out your thick and dark colored denim for some light colored pants. Try a pastel blue, or a pale yellow, like these pants from Everlane. This is the color soybean, and these high waisted pants are made with organic cotton. They come cropped at the ankle, which is perfect for some airflow in these rising temps. This pair of pants also come in the springy colors of aqua and lavender.

    THE LOAFER

While it’s still too cold to bust out the handy slip-on sandals and a bit too warm to keep wearing our combat boots, we think the loafer shoe is a classy middle ground. This shoe is sturdy, on trend, and can dress up outfits that we don’t want to pair with sneakers. We think this Joleen Chunky Loafer from Altar’d State is the perfect shoe for the winter-to-spring transition. The white color brightens up our outfit, but the coverage keeps our feet warm while we wait for the weather to heat up.

    THE CARDIGAN

The cardigan is the pinnacle article of clothing for a winter to spring transition. It’s a knitted sweater with an open feature allowing airflow for maximum comfort in these not-warm but not-cold temperatures. When paired with dresses or t-shirts, it also allows for removal on those unexpected warmer days.

We love the versatility of a cardigan and always have one on hand for the season, such as this cropped cardigan from Lulu’s. This cardigan is lighter weight and cropped at the waist, making it even more appropriate for springy temps. We love the puff sleeve detail, perfect for the delicate vibes of spring blooms.

    THE MAXI DRESS

Love the fun loving, free flowing nature of a sundress in spring and summer? Opt for a warmer version with the maxi dress! The maxi dress is a dress with a skirt that falls down to the ankle or foot, giving enough leg coverage to protect against any cooler temps. This maxi dress from Lulu’s is giving us major sunset vibes with a cinched waist and spaghetti straps. Perfect to wear as is for warmer days, or paired with a cardigan on brisker ones.

    THE PAPER BAG PANT

The paper bag pant is an ultra high waist pant, most of the time with a cinched tie detail. We think these pants are a must for spring, as they are comfortable and flowing on the legs, while still offering the coverage we need. They come in all sorts of colors, and opting for lighter ones will brighten up our wardrobe for the upcoming season.

These Jacquard Tie-Waist Pants from Madewell are the perfect example. These slouchy pants offer maximum comfort and style with its herringbone pattern feature. Madewell even has a matching turtleneck top we think would create a statement outfit for the weather!

    THE BLAZER

Need to cover your arms but don’t want a big bulky coat? We think a button-up blazer is the perfect solution. It’s got a classy vibe, but can easily be dressed down with jeans and sneakers. It’s versatile and fashionable. You can always go for a neutral colored blazer, but we think a fun color or pattern is perfect for the change in weather. This Textured Weave Blazer from Zara comes in this gorgeous sky blue color. It has this fun woven texture, with an embossed metal button closure.

    THE CLOG

The clog is a versatile shoe, and we love its ease of wear with its slip-on nature. These shoes are perfect as the weather warms, as it has an exposed heel but a closed toe. These tan Alma Clogs from Free People are perfect for this season. They are made of leather with a wooden platform and feature a buckle strap. This is the “Oatmeal” colorway, which we love as a neutral option, but this shoe also comes in other fun colors such as “Blush Suede” and “Orange.”

    THE TOTE BAG

The tote bag just screams “warm weather is approaching.” It’s got a fun, beachy vibe, while being a practical item for storage. We love this Woven Straw Market Tote from J. Crew for this. It’s made from natural straw, and features a tapered look with its wider opening. Perfect for storing your wallet and cardigan for a day of shopping, or a beach towel and book for the warmer days ahead.
